Highest Standard of Care Here at Home
T
reating cancer at Memorial Medical Center’s Cancer Center is more than just treating an illness. Patients receive advanced and compassionate care from a team of doctors and staff who treat the whole patient. Care at Memorial’s Cancer Program extends beyond medicine to strengthen patients’ minds and bodies through counseling services, nutritional advice, survivorship planning and support groups for both the patient and family. Best of all, patients can receive the highest standard of care right here in Las Cruces, near their own homes, near friends and family. Memorial Cancer Center is an affiliate of the University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of only 45 comprehensive cancer centers in the United States. Dr. William Adler is the Medical Director of MMC Cancer Center Medical Oncology and Hematology, and is a University of New Mexico Cancer Center physician. Dr. Adler attended medical school at the University of New Mexico (UNM) School of Medicine, completed his internship and residency at UNM Hospitals, and completed a Medical Oncology and Hematology fellowship at the University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center. He has two colleagues, Dr. Rama Medavarapu and Dr. Bruce Greenfield, both
fellowship trained to care for patients with blood and cancer disorders. “As one local surgeon put it, we have big-city oncologists here in a small-town program,” stated Lynn Fletcher, MMC Cancer Center Administrator. The MMC Cancer Center’s complementary facility, Ikard Radiation Oncology, has been caring for patients for more than a decade and is accredited by the American College of Radiology and the American Society for Radiation Oncology. Dr. Cherie Hayostek is the Medical Director of Ikard Radiation Oncology. Dr. Hayostek received her medical degree from the University of South Dakota School of Medicine and completed a residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Her partner, Dr. Greg Willis, also did his training in Minnesota for Radiation Oncology. The MMC Cancer Center is the only cancer program in southern New Mexico that has earned accreditation from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. The Center treats all types of cancer, and patients benefit from individualized treatment plans with opportunities to participate in clinical trials. Whether a patient’s plan includes surgery, chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy, the team utilizes advanced techniques, striving for the best outcome for each patient.
