ife is full of first experiences. Some we hold dear in our memories, some we’d rather forget. The ‘first’ I experienced this spring was one I’d rather forget, but sadly won’t. Until May this year I’d never been stung by a wasp, a bumble bee or a hornet. I exclude honey bees because as a child I was stung by one of my father’s which had got into my nightie during a swarming. My ‘first’ this time was not a dissimilar story. A queen, emerging from winter hibernation and still rather dopey had made its way into my bed.

wasn’t the hornet’s fault , and remembering the Monty Python song, ‘Always look on the bright side of life,’ I had only been stung on the foot. Several hours of ice pack and vinegar compress later, I was finally able to get to bed, but my foot was very sore for several days. Common wasps and hornets, both from the same family, are not the bad guys … no really, they’re not. They’re a gardener’s friend, eating other insects, caterpillars and aphids we’d rather not have munching through our precious plants. Wasps are also significant pollinators. Wasps and hornets have amazing skills and private lives.

When these hatch she feeds the larvae on chewed insects until they pupate and become adult, sterile workers who then take over the job of nest building while the queen concentrates on egg laying. Some of these will be queens, some drones, or male workers. Nest building continues to accommodate the ever increasing numbers of broods and reaches its maximum size by the end of the summer when the new queens will fly off to mate with drones from other nests. The old queen and her workers die off in the colder weather while the newly fertilised queens hibernate over winter.

Breathtaking Avignon! D

o you remember as a child at school learning to sing the Avignon song? “Sur le pont d'Avignon l'on y danse l'on y danse . . .” I do, and I was amazed on a recent visit to Avignon, France, to find it printed on post cards. As I toured around the city I found myself humming the tune and it brought back many childhood memories. The city of Avignon has been inhabited for about 2000 years and has survived the Neolithic age, Greek period, Roman period, and the Barbarian invasion. Eventually Avignon became the capital of the Christian world. In 1309 a truly historic event took place when the Papal Court was moved from Rome to Avignon and it was then that the course of the city’s history took a new and exciting turn. Seven popes, all French, reigned at Avignon, and under their rule, the city was fortified and a huge castle built. This palace took around thirty years to build and today it is known as the Papal Palace, and what a magnificent place it is. Sadly the Pope no longer resides there and is The Link

now back in Rome, but the palace is preserved as a magnificent type of museum and well worth a visit. I was delighted to see that the city was not only beautiful but also interesting, with lots of history. The tale that intrigued me most was that of the St Benezet Bridge, or I should say, what is left of it. The story goes, that Beniot, a young Shepard heard a voice telling him to go to Avignon and build a bridge over the Rhone river. When he arrived at the city he was vested with miraculous strength, amazingly he lifted an enormous rock and laid it on the bank of the river. From this base, enthusiastic crowds helped erect the 22 arches of the bridge, which measured 900 metres long, and Beniot became Saint Benezet. During the siege of Avignon, Louis VIII, ordered the bridge to be completely destroyed, but his orders were never completely carried out and some of the bridge remained. Later reconstruction work was carried out but the unpredictability of the Rhone has caused much damage. Today only 4 arches of the bridge, and the Saint

Nicholas’ Chapel at the entrance, still remain. Avignon is a city with so many breathtaking sights to see. To save your aching feet, a quick and easy way to get around is to take the tour train, this is open and you can get on and off as you please. There is also a Rhone river cruise where you will see all the best sights. The architecture is breathtaking, so, if you are ever in the South West of France, Avignon is not a place you should bypass, it is well worth a visit.

Healthy Eyes Mr Sheraz Daya, a pioneering Ophthalmologist and Medical Director of Centre for Sight https://www.centreforsight.com/ reveals his top 10 tips on how to keep your eyes healthy. 1. Eat a healthy diet - Vitamins A, C, E and minerals like copper and zinc are essential to eyesight. Current research shows that consuming yellow and green vegetables can help prevent age-related macular generation, a leading cause of blindness. 2. Make sure you get enough sleep each night - this is essential for eye health; sleep allows your eyes to fully rest, repair, and recover. 3. Quit smoking - It makes you more likely to get cataracts, cause damage to your optic nerve, and macular degeneration.

5. Wear sunglasses - sunglasses will protect your eyes from the sun’s UV Rays; too much UV exposure boosts your chances of sun and macular degeneration. 6. Exercise! This is important because it improves blood circulation, which in turn, improves oxygen levels to the eyes and the removal of toxins. 7. Look away from the computer screen - Rest your eyes every 20 minutes. Look 20 feet away for 20 seconds and close your eyes for 20 seconds. Get up at least every 2 hours and take a 15-minute break.

8. 4. Remove eye make up every night - this prevents any make up from going into your eye and possibly scratching your cornea. To advertise

9. Regular eye exams become more important when you reach your 50s - you want to be certain that no problems are beginning to develop, and certain medications can affect your vision and eye health, so it’s important to tell your doctor about all of your medications. 10. Avoid dry air - aim your car vents down at your feet rather than at your face; air conditioning takes the moisture out of your eyes which can lead to serious dryness.

Silver-Studded Blue Butterfly

T

hey may be small, but silver-studded blue butterflies are undeniably beautiful. Their wingspan of only 2-3cm means they aren’t the strongest of fliers and in fact they probably don’t venture more than 50m in their whole lives. This lack of mobility can be a big problem, because a fire or other disaster can easily wipe out a whole colony. Even if they escape, the heathland habitat they prefer has become so rare and disjointed that they can’t always recolonise. There are

14

now only 14 known locations in Surrey where you can find the silver-studded blue. At this time of year, males have begun to take to the air in search of food. Having built up their strength, they then spar with each other, whirling in tight circles and competing in aerial gymnastics. A few days later, when the females emerge, the males fight for their attention and eventually mate. Then an amazing process begins. First, the females start an intense

search for black ants’ nests. Having found a suitable spot, they lay their eggs near the nest and fly away, letting the ants take over. It turns out that the ants are delighted to find the eggs and sometimes even move their nest closer to them. As soon as the eggs hatch, the ants whisk the tiny caterpillars down into the nest, safe from harm. Then something even more extraordinary happens: the ants become super-nannies to the caterpillars. Early in the morning, they carry the caterpillars out to let them feed on fresh heather shoots. Acting like bodyguards, they ward off predatory wasps and spiders. Before the day gets too hot, the ants carry them home again into the cool nest. Their reward comes when the caterpillars secrete sugars from special pores, which the ants love. It’s a vivid example of a symbiotic relationship. Over time the caterpillars become chrysalises deep in the ants’ nests. As they slumber through the winter, their bodies

slowly change into adults. Finally, escorted by their ant guardians, they make their way out of the nest and fly off into the June sunshine. And the cycle starts all over again. Needless to say, the future of the silver-studded blue is in our hands. Heathland in this country is maintained by human intervention and as it has disappeared, so has this lovely little insect. A healthy population of silver-studded blues is an indicator of good heathland management, which can support a wealth of other spectacular species. Is your garden wild enough to win? If your garden is a haven for wildlife, there’s still time to win one of Surrey Wildlife Trust’s annual Wildlife Garden Awards, sponsored by Squire’s Garden Centres. The competition is open to individuals, schools and businesses and the best gardens will win £50 of gardening vouchers! Entries are open until 31st July 2018. Canine Osteoarthritis article by Annika Carraher MRCVS

This month, vet Annika Carraher MRCVS, gives you a brief overview of Canine Osteoarthritis

O

steoarthritis (OA) simply means 'inflammation of the joints' and is a common problem for many dogs. It is thought 70% of all dogs will have some form of OA as they age. Typically arthritis is a problem seen in older dogs, but the condition can develop from an early age following problems with bone and joint development. Most cases develop as a result of abnormal rubbing within the joint caused by joint instability (e.g. after ligament damage), damage to or abnormal cartilage development, or damage caused

by trauma (e.g. fractures). In dogs with arthritis, cartilage within the joint undergoes change or damage, becoming less smooth and resulting in the bone surfaces rubbing together, causing discomfort, and further damage. As a direct result, new bone starts to form around the joint making the joint stiffer, limiting movement even more. The most commonly recognised signs of arthritis are associated with inflammation of the joints and include: • Stiffness – especially after periods of rest, often

improving with movement. • Difficulty rising – when your dog has been lying down for long periods. • Licking of a painful area - some dogs lick continually at a painful joint. • Lameness – there may be an obvious limp, sometimes several joints are affected, making the lameness less obvious. • Changes to behaviour and demeanour, often becoming withdrawn. Diagnosis is by veterinary examination of your dog, looking for pain and discomfort within joints, reduction of the range of movement and also from a clinical history; sometimes x-rays are required to investigate properly. Complimentary therapies Such as physiotherapy, chiropractic, acupuncture and hydrotherapy can all help to alleviate some of the signs and reduce inflammation. Household changes: Ramps where needed if your dog is struggling with stairs etc. Mats on slippery floors so they do not slip, or even raised food and water bowls so they do not have to stretch down. Weight management: Weight plays a massive part in the progression and aetiology of OA. Keeping your pet slim is absolutely vital.

Exercise management: Exercise is important in keep arthritic dogs mobile, however too much and the wrong type can be detrimental. There is no cure for OA, but the good news is many pets can successfully be made pain free by appropriate long-term use of medication and sensible management to control further deterioration. Listening to Reading pilot launches in local school L

istening to children read in primary schools is an essential part of a young person’s development in addition to the support provided by School staff and parents at home. Retired Teacher Julie Pescod and now a member of Caterham Rotary Club recently came up with the idea of seeking volunteers from the local community who would be prepared to get involved as listeners. In conjunction with Helen Hammer of Tandridge Volunteer Action a scheme to find volunteers was devised and launched backed by support from Caterham Rotary Club to provide help with the administration aspects. At the same time both Julie and Helen put together a proposition for a pilot scheme and approached St John’s Primary School in Caterham. Head Teacher Rob Veale was very keen on the idea as he saw this as an excellent initiative to add value to the School’s literacy curriculum. Following the search for volunteer readers five ladies

expressed interest. They received advice and guidance from Julie and had a tour of the school and then commenced listening to readers after the Easter Holidays. Rob Veale added, “We are pleased to welcome volunteers from Caterham Rotary. Hearing pupils read is not only rewarding but will help to raise children’s achievement, complementing the work of Teachers and Teaching Assistants. The volunteers provide an enrichment for the pupils’ learning experiences whilst also bringing the local community to work together. We look forward to continuing to work with all our reading volunteers and Caterham Rotary.” Feedback so far is encouraging and Mrs Zanaib Iftikhar one of the volunteer listeners has commented “Reading is one of the most important skills we teach our children. Reading opens the door to learning about maths, history, science, literature, geography and much more. I am happy to be a part of this reading scheme and to help children learn such an important skill.” Overall the ladies are finding the school friendly and the children receptive. The teaching staff say that it is very rewarding to see the children talking to and engaging with other adults. It is hoped to expand this scheme, spreading to other schools in the area in the coming months. photo: (L to R) Julie Pescod Caterham Rotarian with volunteer Mrs Zanaib Iftikhar listening to two young St John’s children.

lematis, Honeysuckle, Morning Glory and Passion Flower are spectacular climbers and can be skilfully used to cover porches, doorways, wooden fences and walls and add superb colour. Hedges should be trimmed and lawns mowed regularly, flower and vegetable beds kept weed free and all garden plants watered copiously. The gardening season is now in top gear! Here are some of the priority tasks to be undertaken in July:Watering • Seed beds, containers, pots, tubs, new plants, Camellia, Rhododendron, Delphinium, Godetia, Mimulus, Nemesia & Sweet Peas. • Thirsty crops also include Leeks, Lettuce and Radish. Soak in the evenings. • Keep newly planted trees and shrubs well watered in the summer. • Liquid feed regularly, if you have not used a slow-release fertilizer. • Containers that dry out quickly could be moved to a shadier spot. • Top-up ponds and bird baths regularly, after clearing blanked weed, algae and debris. • Water legally (not during hose pipe bans). Rain water collected

26

in containers and re-cycled water are possible solutions during a drought spell. Pest, Weed and Disease watch During warm spells, pests, weeds and diseases like Blight and Powdery Mildew can spread at an alarming rate, so be prepared to deal with the problems immediately. Step 1: Mix three tablespoons of Arm and Hammer pure baking soda with one gallon of water. Step 2: Mix in one tablespoon of vegetable oil or cooking oil of your choice. This will help the spray stick to the leaves. Step 3: Mix in two drops of Planet Ultra brand dish soap to help emulsify the mix. Step 4: Spray on tops and bottoms of leaves till dripping. NOTE: Spraying in the heat of the day will harm the leaves. Bulbs and Corms • Lift and dry off Tulip bulbs. • Complete your bulb order now for Autumn planting. • Plant Anemone coronaria of the de Caen and St. Brigid strains for winter flowering. • Colchicums and Crocuses planted now, will add colour in the Autumn. • Hippeastrums do not need to be watered after flowering.

Flowers • Gather everlasting flowers for drying (in dry weather) • Dead-head faded flowers from plants regularly. • Kerria, Kolkuwitzia, Philadelphus and Weigela can be trimmed after flowering. • Ideal time to take cuttings of many shrubs and replenish your stocks e.g. Buddleia, Cerastostigma, Forsythia, Hydrangea and Philadelphus. • July sowings of Aubretia, Brompton Stock, Delphiniums, Forget-me-not, Foxglove, Hollyhock and Honesty. Ideally, sow in pots or trays in a shaded cold frame. Herbaceous Plants Dahlias and taller flower plants to be supported by stakes to prevent the toppling over in strong winds. Fruit • Use netting to keep birds off soft fruit. • Melons will need support when they start to swell. A sling made of netting will help. • Complete the thinning of Apples, Pears and Plums. • Strawberry plants should be replaced after three years (at the most). Greenhouse/Houseplants • Chrysanthemums in pots need feeding from now onwards.

• Give perpetual Carnations plenty of water and ventilation. • Shade Cucumbers from hot sun. • Keep Tomato plants moist to prevent splitting. • Look out for pests attacking houseplants (Red Spider Mite, Mealy bug and Scale) • Use netting to keep bees, birds and harmless insects out. Lawns In hot weather, it is advisable to mow the grass less. Vegetables • Routine weeding is essential. • Plant sprouting Broccoli, Calabrese, Cauliflower, Kale and Oriental Greens. • Plant pot raised Beetroot, Leeks, Lettuce & Parsley outdoors. Wildlife • Adult frogs and toads will soon leave ponds. • The peak watching time to see bats is during dusk. I went last year, combining it with a few days in the Lake District. The Fair is a vast meeting place for travellers and country people. The main purpose is to buy and sell horses. The horses are raced bareback or ridden pulling a buggy along the adjacent road at breakneck speeds, all part of showing off the horse's abilities and fun for the young men. You really have to be careful crossing the road.

Lamb & Parmesan Stuffed Courgettes Courgettes are plentiful at this time of year, so why not try something different? Hollowed out and stuffed with rice and rosemary-flavoured minced lamb, this hearty meal is healthy and cheap, too. METHOD yy Preheat the oven to 190°C/Gas Mark 5 yy Cut the courgettes in half lengthways and remove the insides with a spoon, leaving a 1cm thick shell. yy Set the pulp aside and chop lightly, then place the scooped-out courgettes in a foil-covered baking dish and bake in the oven for 20 minutes. yy While the courgettes bake, boil the rice for 12-15 minutes until just done. Drain and allow to stand for 5 minutes. INGREDIENTS

4 large courgettes 150g long grain 2 tomatoes, chopped 1 egg 375g lean minced lamb 1 onion 2 garlic cloves 250g passata (tomato puree) 1 tsp chopped fresh rosemary 4 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese salt and pepper to taste Serves 4

32 32

yy Add the chopped tomatoes and beaten egg to the rice, mix together and add salt and pepper to taste. yy Over a medium heat, fry the minced lamb for 5 minutes until browned. yy Add the onion and garlic and fry for another 5 minutes. yy Add the passata, the courgette pulp, and the rosemary. Stir well to combine, bring to the boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes. yy Finally, stir in the rice mixture. yy Divide the mixture equally and spoon into the baked courgette shells, sprinkling the top with the Parmesan to finish. yy Return to the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes until the tops are crispy. Serve immediately.

Caterham Oxted & Godstone Lions Club District 105SE England Celebrating 100 years of Lions serving their communities

A

lthough it may seem some time ago, the Lions Club had a successful fund raiser with the raffle of Easter Eggs in some local pubs and clubs. Something in the region of £400 was collected and this was made up to £500 by the Club and presented to St Catherine’s Hospice. Another successful fundraising event was the Swimathon at De Stafford. Eleven organisations or individuals took part, and among

34

them was the then Chairman of the District Council Councillor Gill Blake who swam for the Bletchingley Skill Centre. It was a fun event and although at the time of writing the final money raised is not yet known, it is felt that it will prove to have been a good fund raising event and almost certainly one that will be repeated next year. Teams and individuals taking part are sponsored and half their money goes to a charity of their choice and the other half to the Lions for their good causes. The event was noisy, very buzzy and great fun for all, even for those just cheering on their teams. In May the Club President, Ian Macaulay, presented some Hi-Viz jackets to Godstone Village School. Sixty small jackets for years one and two and twenty

adult ones were given to Head Teacher Candida Jarrott-Chase. The school logo featured on the back of the children’s jackets with the Lions logo on the front. Initially it was agreed that only children’s jackets would be supplied but after a request from the Friends of Godstone School it was decided to buy some for the adults as well. The Club will soon be coming to the end if the Lion year and a new President will be in post. Come July Rita Reissland will be the Club’s New President. Rita lives in Caterham and has been a Lion for many years. Before taking up her new post she was the Club’s Treasurer – and a brilliant one at that! photo: Lion President Ian Macaulay with Godstone Head Teacher Candida Jarrott-Chase

Support when it’s needed most want to upset them, but people can be more honest with me as I’m a stranger.

A

t St Catherine’s Hospice more than 1,000 volunteers donate their time to support their local hospice including Dorinda Gossage, who volunteers as a Support Visitor. Dorinda visits people who know they’re going to die or who are bereaved, in their own homes. To mark national Volunteers Week, she shares more about her voluntary role. I offer people a safe place to open up As a Support Visitor I walk beside people and offer them a safe place to open up without any judgement or prejudice. At St Catherine’s we don’t treat people as if all that matters is that they’re going to die. We teach people how to live and remind them that life can still be fulfilling even with a terminal illness. I don’t give advice. I’m just there to listen When I first visit people, naturally, they’re nervous but with encouragement they’re usually glad to open up. I talk with people about good things in their lives as well as about things that are worrying them. Often people don’t want to talk to their family and friends about their worries, because they don’t The Link

Generally, people find it hard to talk about death and bereavement And everyone responds in different ways. Sometimes people tell me they’re feeling angry, whilst other people describe feeling numb or sad. One lady I visited had a partner who was dying. She confided in me that she was struggling to cope but my listening helped her to normalise and work through her feelings. Another gentleman used our time together to plan his funeral. This brought him comfort as he knew his family wouldn’t be left to make decisions at a difficult time. Many of the bereaved people I visit talk about feeling guilty that they weren’t there when their loved one died. They obsess over the person’s death and how it happened but I remind them that everything they did for, and with, the person during their life is the important thing. Sometimes helping people to refocus on the times they were there for someone, before and during their illness, allows them to experience a natural sense of rebalancing between one moment and a lifetime of moments. This can often ease their feelings of guilt.

It’s a privilege to volunteer I’m proud to work with St Catherine’s and I’ve learnt so much from the hospice’s Patient and Family Support Team. Their training is first rate and they’re really supportive. St Catherine’s is a wonderful place and volunteering has allowed me to grow personally. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done. There’s still more to do though There’s always a waiting list for our Support Visitor service and as soon as our sessions with someone finish we start visiting someone new. We provide people with extra support when it’s needed most and I wonder who people would turn to without us. Nobody should face death and dying alone. We all have a responsibility to make sure they don’t. Please do what you can to support St Catherine’s. Your support makes sure I, my fellow volunteers, and St Catherine’s staff can continue to help people in our local community. We all get old in the end! • I changed my car horn to make gunshot sounds. People get out of the way much faster now. • Gone are the days when girls used to cook like their mothers. Now they drink like their fathers. • You know that tingly little feeling you get when you really like someone? That's common sense leaving your body. • I didn't make it to the gym again today. That makes five years in a row. • Old age is coming at a really bad time. • When I was a child I thought “Nap Time” was a punishment. Now, as a grownup, it feels like a small vacation. • The biggest lie I tell myself is: I don't need to write that down, I'll remember it . . . • I don't have grey hair; I have "wisdom highlights"! I'm just very wise. • I decided to stop calling the bathroom the “John” and renamed it the “Jim”. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning. • If God wanted me to touch my toes, He would've put them on my knees. • Of course I talk to myself; sometimes I need expert advice. • At my age "Getting lucky" means walking into a room and remembering what I came in there for. • Actually I'm not complaining because I am a Senager. (Senior teenager) I have everything that I wanted as a teenager, only 60 years later. I don’t have to go to school or work. I get an allowance every month. I have my own pad. I don’t have a curfew. I have a driver’s licence and my own car. The people I hang around with are not scared of getting pregnant. And I don’t have acne. Life is great!

It's often easy to focus on the exciting events and unique independent shops in a town, while taking those working away in their offices a little for granted – but many of them spend their days simplifying life's more complicated issues to make things easier for the rest of us. Manager of Caterham Valley For You, Sue McGeown, shines a light on the town's professional services.

A

s you make your way from the supermarkets through Church Walk to your favourite High Street stores, you may not have realised what a fascinating and varied bunch our town's accountants, solicitors and quantity surveyors are and what a wealth of knowledge they boast. For example, did you know that, while they may be dab hands at solving HMRC compliance needs and tax bills, Champ Consultants also host a regular business show on Ridge Radio and organise Caterham Food Festival. They moved into the Valley from Westway at the start of 2018, and it took them no time at all to settle in. With the likes of UNL, Tax4Today and Wingate Financial Planning also getting figures in order, there's no excuse not to sort your financial affairs this summer. Meanwhile, overlooking the Caterham Rotary clock, you can't miss Dollman & Pritchard

46

solicitors’ striking offices. Originally founded in central London more than 130 years ago, they have been associated with our town for more than half a century. They offer a wide range of services, from family law to criminal defence. If you've got a problem that needs fixing, they'll have the solution. A little way down Croydon Road, you'll also find Quanticks, who have been in Caterham Valley since the end of 2015. They may be a little younger in business terms, but their fresh approach to law has proven hugely popular. Across the road, there's Jade Insurance and their director Martin Kemp (no, not that one...). Established 16 years ago, they handle the insurance needs of commercial and corporate entities, sports clubs, charities and non profit organisations in the public and private sector to a gold (sorry, Martin!) standard.

Another of our town's long established businesses, Huntley Cartwright, started life in 1985 and their team includes members of The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. Based on Harestone Valley Road, between Caterham Station and The Soper Hall, their practice has a broad portfolio featuring leisure, residential, heritage and health care projects, among others. Founded in 1946, Croudace Homes is a privately owned house builder best known for its awardwinning homes across the south east. Based on Tupwood Lane, they were awarded their sixth HBF 5 Star Home Builder Customer Satisfaction award in as many years in March. In fact, we're well set on the developer front with Land Genie based in Quadrant House and you may walk by one of their recent projects every day. Valley Place, a development of nine luxury and contemporary two bedroom apartments, some with some rather snazzy balconies, is found right in the heart of things on Croydon Road. If you're looking to move home this year, then

Caterham Valley has a number of highly-rated estate agents. With Cubitt & West, Rayners, Martin & Co, Trust Homes, Bairstow Eves, Park & Bailey and Hamptons International all in the Valley, you're sure to find the home of your dreams whether you're looking to buy, rent, downsize, upsize or just fancy a change. For more about all of these businesses and some of the others you'll find on (and above) Caterham Valley's streets, visit our directory at www.caterhamvalley.co.uk. You're sure to find the expert that you're looking for. Until next month,

Capturing the quintessential qualities of great wine styles of the world, via some exceptional winemakers, I ventured through the Definition range and really enjoyed my findings of these wines, which have something for all tastes and palates. Definition Chardonnay is a most impressive production, utilising the very popular grape of the same name. From Limoux, France, this white wine has an appealing bouquet. I found the mouthfeel and palate sensation to have good fruit flavours and wonderful to accompany white meats, fish and seafood dishes. Sauvignon Blanc is a further, extremely popular, dry white and the Definition production has everything to be hoped for, in this splendid wine from New Zealand. Again, superb to pair with fish, seafood and white meats, this wine is chosen, by many. Definition Rioja Reserva, from northern Spain, is matured in oak barrels. I found this wine to have a very good nose of red fruits, which leads, enticingly, to the distinctive flavour. This very impressive, rich, red wine, pairs perfectly with red meats, etc. Definition Claret, from the renowned region of Bordeaux, France, has numerous

devotees. Great to accompany a lot of cuisine, this outstanding, red wine will not disappoint. Other impressive productions in the Definition range include, Chablis, Pinot Grigio, Sancerre, Provence Rosé, Côtes du Rhône, Pinot Noir, Malbec and sparkling Prosecco. Everyone has their favourite and this exceptional range of highquality wines has something for all. I located these productions at Majestic Wine, a company offering a very extensive range of drinks that includes wines, spirits, beers, ciders and nonalcoholic beverages, too. Customer satisfaction is paramount and advice is always available, from their very knowledgeable staff. Majestic Wine’s Definition range I found to have excellent whites, powerful reds and a really good sparkling Prosecco, which is great for all occasions, including parties and events.
