This year’s 4-H and FFA Livestock Auction was held on August 14th, 2021 in the Josephine County Fairgrounds Horse Arena. The Active Club once again came out in full force to put on an amazing event called 4THEKIDS Livestock Auction. This event helped support 169 youth from Josephine County. The high temperatures and smoke did not detour the community from rallying around these youth exhibitors and supporting them both in person and financially. This year’s Auction hit an all-time high and raised $752, 601 from local and surrounding area businesses.

Hi Members, Fall is my favorite season of the year. We are very lucky to live in Grants Pass where the colors are so vibrant, and the autumn weather is so amazing. With fall, most of us are creating budgets and planning for the next year. After 2020 and 2021, I will admit, budgeting looks a little different these days. Despite all of the unknowns, we are planning for the best. The Chamber is moving forward with exciting plans for 2022 including bringing back our beloved Concerts in the Park, growing our new program Lemonade Day, and kicking the year off on January 28, 2022 with an amazing Awards Banquet-- Save the Date! When you are planning your budget, please make sure to include the Chamber in your plans. We have some amazing new opportunities. This year we implemented new membership levels with expanded options. Check out the plans for all size companies with new benefits here on pages 18 and 19. We also just released our upgraded website--www.grantspasschamber.org. With a new website we have maximized the traffic and resources available. Members have new options to advertise and sponsor. When anyone is considering moving to our area, the Chamber’s website is one of the first resources they check for area details. With over 1.8 million hits per year, our website is the go-to place for business resources, host to a dynamic local business directory, relocation information, visitor information, and the community calendar. Operation Joy is an annual program designed to provide those in assisted living facilities some holiday cheer by receiving Christmas cards. ur 2021 Corn Maze & Pumpkin Patch will OPEN DAILY beginning October 1, 2021, until October 31, 2021, from 10AM to 6PM.

This family friendly event features perennial favorites like the Pumpkin Chunker (Pumpkin cannon), Apple Blaster, Cow Train, Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch. Our lawn area will be open for families to bask in the sunshine of the harvest season for a personal family style DIY picnic. The Farm will provide the lawn and you can provide your own accommodation (chairs & tables, pop-up canopy if you have one, no BBQ equipment). Water, soft drinks, and snacks (cotton candy, freshly made kettle corn and roasted nuts) will be available for sale. Healthier food choices will be up to you and your picnic menu preparer. The normal Farm Store hours (9AM – 5PM) will be adjusted to coincide with the Corn Maze/Pumpkin Patch hours (10AM – 6PM) in October. Avoid ticket lines and get your tickets early. Available in advance at the Farm Stand and the Gate for the Corn Maze, Haunted Maze, Pumpkin Chunker and Cow Train. 8 Acre Corn Maze $6/pp, children 5 and under free Pumpkins are $0.39/lb Cow Train is $6 per ride “Pumpkin Chucker - Chuck a Pumpkin $6 each - no age limit HAUNTED MAZE - FRIGHT NIGHTS- $15 For those who wish to experience a frightful evening, the Haunted Maze will be open Friday and Saturday nights from 7PM to 10PM. Our Young Professionals Network thoroughly enjoyed touring the Grants Pass Downs! This indepth look into the many working parts of horse racing was definitely insightful. Our tour guide was none other than the President of GP Downs, Randy Evers. He spoke about the health and safety of the horses and horsemen, the time and resources that go into maintaining a horse, as well as the positive economic impact horse racing has on our entire community. After the tour, we were invited to stay for the races. Fun was had by all! Our Monthly Virtual Luncheon on October 19th will be on “Brand Development” with Justin Woolf of Dutch Bros. Upcoming Community Service projects include Salvation Army Bell Ringing and Toys for Tots. This last year was another hard one on most youth in our community. Local 4-H clubs and FFA chapters were not able to get together and work on their projects the way they normally would. Due to the pandemic that continues to put strenuous guidelines and boundaries on gatherings, meetings and get togethers, youth in our community had to find unique ways to stay informed about their projects and continue to stay focused while not knowing if we would again have a fair. When the date approached and it looked like the youth in our community would not only get to attend the Josephine County Fair, but they would get to compete and show case their hard work they had put in at home they were beyond excited. What most people do not know is 4-H and FFA livestock exhibitors work for months and sometimes up to a year to bring in that well-mannered, perfectly groomed animal you see at fair. The Beef kids have their project for 10-12 months depending on the age of the animal, Swine, Sheep and Goat exhibitors have their projects 4-6 months also depending on the age of the animal. Besides the usual feeding, grooming, and working with their animal these exhibitors spend countless hours in community service. The 4-H and FFA help mold some of the best youth in our community. They learn responsibility, what it means to take care of something else besides yourself. They build skill through hands on projects while helping them grow confidence, independence, and resilience all while being compassionate. They learn how to win and how to lose. These are all traits that help them become successful members of society. 4-H and FFA would not be a successful program in Josephine County without the support from our Leaders and Business’s from our community. A huge thank you to the Active Club for putting on this year’s Auction and continuing to do what you do best “supporting the youth of our community.” Thank you to Evergreen Federal for your continued support of the 4-H program and for this year’s belt buckle sponsorship for all Grand and Reserve Champion Market Animals.
