Hi Members,

This month has been a little bit different as I am out on maternity leave. We welcomed a baby girlBlair Catherine Molloy to the family in September.

While I am away, I would like to thank the entire Chamber staff for keeping it all moving along. Due to their help and leadership, the Chamber is not missing a beat still bringing you all the benefits, advocacy, and resources you need to continue being successful.

With Thanksgiving just weeks away, I am dedicating this article to thankfulness. I have been in the role of President & CEO for over three years now. I am very blessed to be able to step into a community and Chamber that was so welcoming.

My goal is to make sure every business and employee that gets connected with the Chamber has the same experience. It makes me so happy when new people say we are the friendliest Chamber they have been involved with.

I believe most of that is because of our members- the people you meet at Greeters, Young Professionals Network, the Ambassadors, and all our committees. The Chamber model evolves around taking our members needs and interests and making it happen successfully. We strive in everything we do, to make sure it meets Chamber Standards. The Chamber would not be able to function at its highest capability without our dedicated volunteers and members.

The Chamber is also very lucky to have such a dedicated, diverse group of business owners and leaders in our community that serve on our board. They represent all industries in our county and bring different perspectives to the table that benefit the entire membership.

I would also like to thank our amazing volunteers who weekly dedicate their time at the Visitor Center. They are the face of our community as we welcome new visitors and residents to our area.

I am thankful of the entire team, board, volunteers, members and community for making Grants Pass & Josephine County a great place to live, work, and play!

Happy Thanksgiving! We all have so much to be thankful for.

The Chamber of Commerce invites all organizations, groups, churches, schools, teams, and individuals to participate in our annual Operation Joy program and do something special for our Seniors.

Operation Joy is a program designed to provide those in our local assisted living facilities with Holiday Cards from our community.

Ways to participate If you have a collection of cards you are not planning to use, or want to purchase cards and donate them-- drop them off at the Chamber Office and we will put them to good use. *We give these donated cards to groups who want to participate and cannot afford to supply their own cards.

Gather your group and fill out cards. There are four local nursing homes participating-you can choose to pick one or do them all.

Lists will be available early November at The Chamber or can be requested by contacting Christie at (541)226-3101 or via email cswafford@grantspasschamber.org Please return completed cards to the Chamber office by Wednesday, December 15th.

The Young Professionals Network is for young professionals in the target age range of 18-45 who are looking for networking opportunities with other young professionals, connections to the community and business leaders, community engagement, and professional development. The network holds monthly luncheons, quarterly socials, and community service projects.

Our Young Professionals Network had an insightful Monthly Virtual Luncheon on October 19th on the topic of “Brand Development”. Our presenter was Justin Woolf of No Envy Design and Dutch Bros.

Justin was born and raised right here in Grants Pass. He has a beautiful wife and is the proud father of two little boys. Justin went to Western Oregon University where he studied Graphic Design, which led to his position as Creative Director for Dutch Bros Coffee.

A few key take-aways from the presentation were, your brand should tell your story, it should stay consistent and be relevant to your product, and employees should be examples of the brand. There was a lot of great content and great Q & A.

Our next event will be on November 16th, with Professional Development on “Resume Building” led by BBSI. We will also be kicking off the holiday season by ringing the Bell for the Salvation Army for the “2021 Red Kettle” program on November 20th and later volunteering with Toys for Tots.

For the Last 11 years, Josephine County 4-H has sent Christmas cheer to deployed soldiers.

It’s a community effort. This year we will, once again, need to fill stockings we currently have with needed items: • Aspirin • Body powder • Disposable razors • Flavored water packets • Hot chocolate/coffee packets • Individual-size snacks, such as chips, cookies, nuts • Instant oatmeal • Hot sauce • Lotions • Lip balm • Sanitary wipes • Toothbrushes/Toothpaste • Christmas cards of thanks and good cheer • Other items that our soldiers may appreciate receiving.

4-H youth in Josephine County are collecting and shipping donated personal items to servicemen and women stationed overseas during the holiday season.

Donated items can be mailed or delivered to the OSU Extension office (address below). Delivered items should be placed in the barrel located on the porch.

Hours for drop off are: Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Monetary donations can be placed through the mail slot to the right of the door at the OSU Extension office or can be taken to an Evergreen Bank location and deposited in the 4-H Stockings for Soldiers account.

Bill Menke loved giving back to the community and spent a lot of time volunteering in many organizations, such as Kiwanis Golden Eagles, Meals on Wheels, Dinners in the Park, RSVP, UCAN, Chamber of Commerce, and even served on the HOA board as president and treasurer.

Bill is survived by his wife, Carmella, his children, grandchildren, great -grandchildren, and extended family members. He got married to Carmella Heiberger in 1983 and retired in 1993. Bill and Carmella traveled all over North America (except North Dakota) while RV’ing full time. They settled in Grants Pass in 2002 because of his love for the Rogue River.

He served proudly in the Marines after high school. He was honorable discharged from the military in 1962 and attended the San Fernando Valley College of Law in Woodland Hills, CA, and graduated with his law degree in 1970. He practiced family law and, eventually employment law.

The memorial will be held at 10am, Friday, November 12, 2021, at the Calvary Lutheran Church ECLA, 909 NE A St, Grants Pass, Oregon.
