Hi Members, We are days away from the general election. This election is a big one! We strongly encourage everyone to get out and vote. All ballots are due by November 8 by 8:00 p.m.!

One of the big responsibilities of the Grants Pass & Josephine County Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee is to promote community awareness, engagement and education on issues impacting the community through forums and other resources.

For this election, the Chamber hosted forums for the Seasonal Sales Tax which is also known as the Retail Activity Tax, Sheriff race, County Commissioner race, and contested City Council races. All of these forums are available on the Chamber’s YouTube channel: https://www. youtube.com/channel/UC_1phl6W2nI-K_LglkuO3Jg .

The Chamber does not endorse any candidates, but provides forums so voters know where candidates stand on important issues especially those that will impact our businesses.

The Chamber did come out in opposition of the Retail Activities Tax that would put additional burdens on our businesses and put them at a competitive disadvantage.

This is your chance as a resident of Josephine County to make key decisions on the direction of our community. It is your chance to stand up for issues you care about.

Please use your voice and select candidates that will make a positive impact for Josephine County.

ichard Emmons joined the chamber in 2006 when he launched Reality Marketing to provide marketing consulting services to local businesses. “After joining The Chamber, I didn’t get involved and saw little benefit. My experience matched that of many new businesses.”

This changed when Richard became the managing partner of The Boardroom Executive Suites in 2010. “I made a habit of attending the weekly Greeters meetings and other chamber events. I got to know lots of business people in town, and that put The Boardroom on the map.”

Richard wrote about his chamber experiences in his book Chamber Advantage. “I want to help chamber members maximize their chamber experience.” He has also written Marketing Survival Guide. Both books are available on Amazon.

While earning his Distinguished Toastmaster award, Richard helped form the Grants Pass Chamber Speakers Bureau. “Recently, I gave a presentation at the Rotary Club of Greater Grants Pass and emceed the Pregnancy Care Center annual Gala. I look forward to more speaking opportunities through the new speakers program and hope others get involved as well.”

In 2021, Richard launched a community newspaper: the Josephine County Eagle. “We highlight the positive work of local businesses, nonprofits and churches in Josephine County. While we report on the challenges facing Grants Pass, Josephine County and local public schools, we also report on solutions that don’t require higher taxes or regulations.” Learn more at JoCoEagle.com.

The Young Professionals Network is for young professionals in the target age range of 18-45 who are looking for networking opportunities with other young professionals, connections to the community and business leaders, community engagement, and professional development. The network holds monthly luncheons, quarterly socials, and community service projects.

For our October YPN Luncheon we were honored to host Charlie Simons of Fields Home Center.

It was apparent right away that he a has a heart for helping and connecting with youth. From coaching to working with the Sparrows Club, his commitment to making a difference led him to performing with Dancing with the Rogue Valley Stars.

Another way Charlie gives back to our community is by being a long-time member of the Active Club which raises funds for local youth. During his presentation, he touched on having a driving motive and knowing what your competitive advantage is along with leading by example with words and actions.

Charlie attributed his propelling force to “saying yes” to opportunities and experiences. He spoke on self-reflection: “What impact do I want to have?” He encourages others to get involved in clubs and networking groups, serve your community and “find your opportunity to have an impact!”

Our next event will be Professional Development on November 15th from 9:00am- 10:30am at Hampton Inn & Suites. Our guest speaker will be Tori Middelstadt of Visit Grants Pass. This event is free, and registration is required. Breakfast will be provided by Asante.

he Grants Pass & Josephine County Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center stands as a trusted resource for guests and locals alike, offering everything from directions, travel suggestions, road conditions, all the way to local history. Our Visitor Center could not thrive without the help and support of our many outstanding volunteers.

Annually they donate over 2400 hours of knowledge and skills. Our appreciation for each of them could not be greater.

This year our volunteers were also able to resume destination tours. They visited numerous locations to learn about our community including several downtown shops, Evergreen’s Bear Hotel, Troon Vineyard, and Weasku Inn. In October we hosted a Volunteer Dinner with Mary’s BBQ at the Grants Pass Golf Course.

At the dinner, Judy Vanegas was honored as the 2022 Volunteer of the Year-- Judy has been a volunteer at the Chamber since 2008.

David had been a business advisor with RCC SBDC since January of 2008, having formerly worked as a trainer and business counselor for SOWAC. He was also the owner of Tally Media Group until the end of 2021.

David Tally In loving memory The Grants Pass & Josephine County Chamber of Commerce would like honor David Tally who recently passed away.

David was a huge supporter of the Chamber of Commerce and helped so many small businesses achieve their goals. He was a pillar of our community, and we will miss him dearly.

He was a wealth of knowledge with 30 years of marketing and business experience that also included an international printing franchise company as a development and business consultant.

Throughout his years, he was on numerous non-profit boards and a huge advocate for Chambers of Commerce.

David and his wife Donna raised four children and enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren.

Thank you, David Tally, for all of the positive impacts you made in Grants Pass and the business community.

An organization or a citizen of Grants Pass and Josephine County who has made significant contributions to the level of supporting the spirit of the Grants Pass & Josephine County community.

Criteria for selection include; business/occupational /professional success; civic and community involvement; citizenship and personal conduct.

• Fostering a Legacy

This award is for an organization or a person that is a leader in guiding children or students in their appropriate paths for education.

Criteria: Must be in education for a minimum of three (3) years, have excellent character and leadership style, supporting community service in Josephine County.

• Rising Star

Criteria for selection include 2 years of professional experience within their current field. Their company has devoted time to improving the quality of life of others through civic, community and professional service. Actively developing leadership skills and demonstrating growth towards future goals and must demonstrate exceptional and personal achievements and an unwavering commitment to our community.

Legacy holds two annual events. Family Game Night is geared towards wholesome family fun and connection.

Pinwheels for Prevention is a community supported display of blue pinwheels used to bring awareness to Child Abuse Prevention Month
