Hi Members, The Grants Pass & Josephine County Chamber of Commerce has a very small staff. To meet our mission and goals, we rely on volunteers and members to lead committees and assist with numerous functions, advocacy, and promotion in our community.

We are very lucky to have amazing Chamber volunteers and members. One group I would love to thank this month are the Ambassadors.

The Ambassadors are a group of business owners and professionals that actively advocate for the Chamber communicating the benefits, programs and rewards of becoming a Chamber Member.

They play an essential role to represent and communicate the Chamber’s value. They assist at meetings, events, ribbon cuttings, and ceremonies.

Covid was a very hard time for this group as many of the events and ceremonies were cancelled or held virtually. Through Covid, a new program was developed where Ambassadors assemble and deliver welcome buckets to each of our new members. It is a great opportunity to not only welcome new members but share how they can get involved and take full advantage of their benefits.

This year we have been very busy as we are back to in person celebrations and welcoming a lot of new members. The Ambassadors continue to grow their committee! They are the friendly face that welcomes all while representing our Chamber in a positive light.

These past few months they have put in a lot of extra time with multiple ribbon cuttings in a week, a candidate forum, and a downtown tour with our local merchants. No matter what the ask is they are here for the Chamber and our business community. We know we can always count on this group to go above and beyond.

We are lucky to have so many individuals donate so much of their time! I truly appreciate this group of people. Thank you, Ambassadors, for all you do for the Chamber!

ildlife Images Rehabilitation & Education Center is excited to announce it has earned an accreditation from one of the premier zoological associations in the United States.

After a year-long process, the board of the Zoological Association of America has approved Wildlife Images and welcomes it into a community of more than 60 member facilities across the country that show a dedication to the highest standards of animal care as well as public and staff safety.

“This is a major milestone for Wildlife Images,” said Ann Rusk, operations director at Wildlife Images. “We take great pride in the care we give to our animals, both our permanent residents and those brought in for rehabilitation. This accreditation substantiates our commitment to higher standards of animal care, welfare, safety, and staff training, and we couldn’t be more excited to join the ZAA family.”

Wildlife Images has consistently earned top marks from the US Fish and Wildlife Service as well as the US Department of Agriculture and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, but joining ZAA is another measure to show the public the standard of care at Wildlife Images is first-rate.

“Becoming an accredited facility allows us to demonstrate the integrity and genuine nature of our mission,” Rusk said. “It allows us to demonstrate to the public, our community, and the zoo and wildlife network as a whole that we are dedicated to improving the profession and strive to meet and exceed industry standards.”

ZAA’s standards and practices go beyond mirroring existing federal requirements. Some of the areas evaluated during the accreditation process include animal care and husbandry, veterinary care, nutrition, enrichment, security and safety, facility aesthetics and maintenance, record keeping, and a thorough review of policies, procedures, and protocols.

To achieve accreditation, a facility must receive letters of support from two existing ZAA members and undergo a series of reviews before the full board will consider the application. This process includes a thorough on-site review of the facility.

Wildlife Images works closely with the USDA, US Fish and Wildlife, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the Bureau of Land Management. This accreditation improves our standing with all of those organizations.

“The state and federal government agencies that oversee our facility view accredited facilities differently from a permit and oversight level and this will make ambassador animal acquisitions and transfers a more stream-lined process,” Rusk said. “Our staff and volunteers are excited for this opportunity and eager to see how it will change Wildlife Images for the better.”

Wildlife Images is the second facility in Oregon to achieve ZAA accreditation, joining Wildlife Safari in Winston. There is one ZAA facility in Washington, the Cougar Mountain Zoo in Issaquah, and there are five facilities in California. The Fort Worth Zoo – named the top zoo in North America by USA Today in 2020 – is also a proud ZAA member facility.

A

rt has been a lifelong passion of mine since I was barely old enough to walk.

However, my career as an artist “tookoff” quite literally when my husband, Chad and I sold our business and home in Asheville, North Carolina and traded in our sedentary lifestyle for a home on wheels.

Our Airstream adventures have taken us over 60,000 miles around North America and we eventually picked Grants Pass as our new home-base in 2017. Without knowing a soul here, we fell in love with the area for its friendly people and the fact that within only an hour or two of town, you can be rafting the river, walking along the coast, exploring the Redwoods, skiing down a mountain, or enjoying our incredible wine country.

The diverse and changing landscapes along our travels as well as the freedom of the open road are often the inspiration for my paintings and photography. The major bulk of my business is commission work, from portraits and landscapes to murals and specialty logos. Besides original paintings, prints are also available of my art and photography.

When we aren’t on the move, I run my art studio in downtown Grants Pass as well as manage our Airstream travel blog, Argosy Odyssey, featuring the adventures of Frankie the goat, our trusty travel companion. In addition to my art and photography business, I’m a travel writer for a few publications and a social media manager and content creator for Travel Grants Pass, where I enjoy sharing the beauty of our town and the greater Southern Oregon region.

This notification system helps local officials provide you with critical information quickly in a variety of situations such as fire, flood, unexpected road closures, missing persons and evacuation of buildings or neighborhoods.

In the event of an emergency, local officials will use the Citizen Alert system’s emergency notification function to call homes and businesses in the affected area. This function will only call landline phones. If you do not have a landline phone, you will not be notified unless you register another contact option. If you register other contact options, such as your cell phone, work phone or email, you can be notified even when you’re not at home.

You specify how you want to be contacted. For example, you can tell the system to call your cell phone and work phones, or just text your phone or send an email. Whichever form of communication works best for you! You can also specify multiple locations in Josephine County you care about, such as your house, your parent’s house, or your kids’ school.

The Young Professional Network April Luncheon was very well attended. We had the great honor of hosting Mike and Eileen Amaranthus. oatnik is back in 2022 with a full schedule. The Davis Shows carnival will be in the park Thursday – Monday with thrills and rides for the whole family. Friday afternoon, the midway will be setup with vendors from near and far with a variety of items or attractions.

The first Boatnik cornhole tournament will take place Friday afternoon.

The Jim Sigel Drive-it-Home golf shoot-out will start its tournament play Friday before Stephen Pearcy, voice of RATT takes the stage with special guest Emissary.

Right after the concert, we will light up the sky with the first of our fireworks shows. The famous Boatnik parade is set to run down 6th street Saturday morning before a full day of boats and golf on the river. Boatnik Brewfest returns Saturday afternoon and then again on Sunday. Sprint boats, drag boats, and maybe a few hydros will put on a show Sunday before the golf shoot-out championships. The firework finale will cap the night on Sunday before we wrap up the weekend on Monday. Monday is a special day as we honor our fallen with a Memorial Day ceremony, including bagpipers and a jet flyover. The Tom Rice Memorial race will take place afterwards to finish the 2022 Boatnik.
