Hi Members, As I am sitting here writing my article for the Chamber newsletter, there are so many things spinning through my head it is hard to decide which subject to focus on for March.

One of the biggest things happening in my life right now is my oldest son is turning 3!

Many of you have probably met him. He has spent his life growing up in the Chamber attending Greeters, Ribbon Cuttings, meetings, virtual calls, Business After Hours, Ambassador Convention, and Concerts in the Park. At our banquet in 2019, I was 8 months pregnant with him.

From my personal experience as a working mom, it is so nice to have a community that embraces families. To families relocating to our area, one of the top attractions is our family friendly community.

Virtual meetings have shown us parenthood is truly a juggling act. I would like to thank all of you who have so graciously involved and accepted my family into the Chamber world. Garrett and his sister Blaire are two of our youngest Chamber ambassadors.

No matter the age of our local entrepreneurs the Grants Pass & Josephine County Chamber of Commerce is here to support and promote our local commerce through communication, advocacy and partnerships.

RCC welcomes SBDC to Redwood Campus Whether you’re considering starting a new business or gearing up to expand, the Rogue Community College Small Business Development Center offers training and tools to help small businesses take the next step.

“My passion is to help launch new entrepreneurs on a path that will allow them to enjoy the same satisfaction and benefits that I have experienced with my own small business over the years,” said SBDC business adviser David Tally, part of the center’s team since 2007.

Since 1984, the RCC SBDC has supported small businesses in Southern Oregon by providing business development classes and confidential, no-cost advising. The SBDC recently moved into an accessible, welcoming new home at the college’s Redwood Campus, easily accessed from Redwood Highway at the West Entrance to the campus.

“We are thrilled to be located on the beautiful Redwood Campus,” said SBDC Director Ruth Swain. “Our center assists emerging and growing businesses with training, resources and unparalleled expertise. The center’s business advisers have well over 100 years of combined experience — helping businesses weather ever-changing trends, including the devastating impact to small businesses from the current pandemic.”

Simple steps to a stronger community: Everyday Civics at the Library What makes a strong, vibrant community? Engaged citizens! Josephine Community Library invites the community to join Everyday Civics, a program offering basic civics activities, programs, and recommended reading for all ages.

Everyday Civics provides opportunities to engage people in community civic life through simple activities for all ages. Construction Excise Tax Q&A The City of Grants Pass recently passed a Construction Excise Tax (CET) that will place a 1/2% tax on residential permits valued at $50,000 and above and a 1% tax on commercial/industrial permits valued at $50,000 and above.

With the help of City Management, we have developed a Q&A to help our businesses understand the CET. Our next step will be to create a roundtable discussion bringing business owners to the table.

We need feedback from our business community.

This information will allow us to work with the City of Grants Pass to help craft and implement the best usage of this tax.

Visit Grants Pass downtown’s Historic District this Friday for “March Into the Past”. This #FirstFriday event will feature members from the Josephine County Historical Society telling stories of downtown’s past and many local businesses will be offering special promotions, events, and extending hours until 8pm.

Mission Statement

The Grants Pass & Josephine County Chamber Foundation was created to help support businesses, entities and activities to be successful through projects and help the community thrive.

Vision Statement

Facilitate growth of the foundation to accomplish its purpose.

The Chamber Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit that is a visible extension of the Chamber of Commerce to help fund projects to improve Josephine County. The foundation was started in 2001 and since then has been involved with many projects for our community and projects to further the mission of the Chamber of Commerce.

Chair- Lowell Gibson Treasurer- Greg Roe

Vice Chair- Jodi Wainwright Director- Roy Lindsay

Secretary- Rebecca Stoltz Director- Lawton Lesueur In 2021, the foundation secured two grants including a grant from the Grants Pass Rotary Foundation for Lemonade Day which teaches youth how to start, own and operate their first business and a grant from Four Way Foundation for audio and visual equipment. More details coming soon on this project. The Foundation also was the fiduciary sponsor of Exchange for Change. Exchange for Change is a program for Josephine County youths to have an inter-ethnic rural urban summer exchange experience.
