Hi Members, Last month was a busy month with so many things coming back to life. I cannot believe it is already June! It is time for all the summertime fun.

If you haven’t visited the Chamber and Visitor Center in awhile or ever, I invite you to stop by. We have wonderful things for both locals and visitors. We offer visitor packets, relocation packets, and a lot of gift items. We also have the latest map for BearFest and information on every festival and celebration happening!

We just added beautiful shirts with Cate Battles artwork! We also have Grants Pass t-shirts, postcards, magnets, stickers, shot glasses, ornaments, and history books. Please also pick up the brand-new copy of the Chamber Profile!

A must see for visitors is to get a family photo or selfie with the famous Caveman. Stop in and say hi to our volunteers. They can make recommendations for fun things to do in our area and give you brochures on almost every attraction, hiking trail, or hidden gem.

Don’t forget about our community calendar. It is the best calendar in our region with every event happening. You can also add your event for free.

NEW Member of the CHAMBER BOARD

A

lan Meyer has worked in the utility industry for over 34 years. Alan started his career working for a Midwestern utility in 1988 at a large steam power plant, transferred to a nuclear power plant where he worked his way up to the position of maintenance supervisor, and then transferred into customer service where he was responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of a call center located in Central Missouri.

Alan’s desire to live in the Northwest lead him into a career with PacifiCorp in early 2003 where he started as a team manager, held the positions of outage manager, operations manager, corporate account manager, regional business manager and currently director of commercial accounts and community affairs.

Alan has served as a board member for SEDOR and currently serves on the board of SOREDI, was the treasurer for a small Chamber of Commerce, was the founding president of an Oregon Main Street organization and has served in many other capacities as well.

Alan graduated from William Woods University with a bachelor’s degree in management. Alan and his wife Lisa reside in Grants Pass, Oregon and have two children, Dominic 29 (an engineer in Boulder, Colorado) and Gabriella 24 (creative director for a large church in the Portland area).

The Young Professionals Network is for young professionals in the target age range of 18-45 who are looking for networking opportunities with other young professionals, connections to the community and business leaders, community engagement, and professional development. The network holds monthly luncheons, quarterly socials, and community service projects.

The Young Professional Network’s May event had a great crowd at the Josephine County Food Bank. We had the opportunity to sort food, bag freshly harvested spinach, checked expiration dates and counted inventory in the warehouse. We finished with touring the grounds and getting a little dirty weeding carrots out in the field.

Following volunteering was our Networking Social with food provided by Asante and beverages provided

by Weekend Beer Company. We were grateful for the Chamber Ambassadors that joined us.

We all left with full hearts knowing how fortunate our community is to have this amazing resource and so many dedicated individuals with a heart for service, that donate food and time.

Our next event will be the next segment in the Professional Development series and the topic will be “Search Engine Optimization” (SEO), presented by area experts, Moving Mountains on Tuesday, June 21st 9:00am-10:30am at The Hivve, 164 SE G Street. Registration is FREE and breakfast will be provided by Asante.

NEW STAFF MEMBER

F

rank Matz is a dynamic community leader. He serves as a pastor at Rogue Valley Community Church, Consultant and Leadership Coach, Safe Families for Children volunteer, Hearts with a Mission Life Coach, and Co-founder and Program Director for At the Well - Rogue Valley.

He and his wife, Teresa, have been married for over 24 years and have six children and two grandchildren.

Frank has also served in the United States Air Force as a Security Forces Patrolman, Private Investigator, Administrator, and Flight Leader.

Outside the military he has had several jobs in leadership from managing retail stores, leading corporate teams, recruiting and managing volunteer teams, educational leadership, non-profit, and organizational management, and starting three churches. He has also launched a non-profit, consulting company, and was on the ground floor of starting a charter school with a group of friends.

Membership & Business Development Grants Pass & Josephine County Chamber of Commerce

The 12th annual Ride the Rogue cycling event will be held on September 24th 2022. This is a fundraiser for the Rogue River Greenway Foundation, a local nonprofit raising funds to assist in the development and construction of the Rogue River Greenway. The completed Greenway path will connect Grants Pass to Central Point where it will connect to the existing Bear Creek Greenway. Upon completion this path will connect 8 Cities, 2 Counties and create over 50 miles of regional connectivity through Southern Oregon.

We are working on the Greenway from many directions. Not all areas connect yet. Our goal is to have an off roadway separated trail but where that is not possible, have widened shoulders and bike lanes. We have raised more than $8 million dollars in grants, donations and in-kind services and material since our beginning in 2004. We have completed more than half of the trail. Our focus now is starting the section from Grants Pass to Rogue River.

The 2022 Ride the Rogue cycling event features three fully supported routes for cyclist to choose from. Our after ride meal is catered by Taylor’s Sausage and our beer garden features Weekend Brewery. This event is only made possible through the work of many volunteers and the generous support of our sponsors.

Travel Grants Pass is back!

In 2021, the city of Grants Pass reestablished a destination organization, but in a new way. The Josephine County Visitors Association, dba. Travel Grants Pass is now a 501c6 organization serving both the county and the city in visitor marketing services funded by the city lodging tax.

Grants Pass and Josephine County are well positioned for visitor preference coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic as people want space, outdoor spaces, and a resurgence of support for quaint, historic rural towns filled with small businesses. As a region with a well-oiled summer visitation rate, initial marketing and support will be targeted at inspiring travel into the shoulder and off-season.

This year, we are setting strategic direction and laying a foundation to grow the organization and support our local visitor industry.
