s we are counting down the final days of 2023, the Chamber has had a very blessed year. I feel so honored to lead such an amazing organization. It takes a strong team, an engaged board of directors, great group of volunteers, active members, and the support of the community to make this happen. And we did it in true Chamber fashion! I can’t say thank you enough to each individual that has contributed time and money. THANK YOU! It seems very fitting as we move into our 100-year celebration in 2024. Not all organizations can say they have been around for 100 years. It is a true testament to the Chamber and our community for evolving as times change. We are still relevant today and still make an impact!

Our advocacy efforts were so important this year whether it was for childcare funding, advocating for a Sheriff Service District, standing up to legislation that could hurt our business, or the large number of letters of support we wrote for our partners. We also did a lot of testimonials relaying concerns of our community whether it was regarding measure 110 or public safety funding. We even had a chance to sit down with the Governor and share all these concerns.

Education was also critical as new employee laws and compliance issues came down. We held multiple webinars for Paid Leave Oregon, human resources, risk and safety management, and strategic planning. We also hosted a ChatGPT event to learn how small businesses can implement this tool in their business.

Leadership development is also important to the Chamber. Our Young Professionals Network continues to be active with an engaged group of young professionals that participate in professional development, luncheons, and community service projects. For our younger generation, Lemonade Day worked with 300 middle school aged children starting their first business-- a lemonade stand!

It was a great year for events too! The Greeter’s networking program is very popular with 75-80 participants every Wednesday. Business After Hours are back and flourishing! Concerts in the Park had an amazing lineup this year. Wine Stroll and Tap Walk continue to sell out!

To date this year, 71 new members have joined the Chamber. We continue offering resources, tips, and tools to help small businesses get new referrals and market.

We are very blessed. We hope you will celebrate with us on February 23, 2024, for our Awards Banquet and 100TH anniversary!

Hello. My name is John Frankforther and I am currently the President of Caveman Heating and Air Conditioning. I am a native of Ohio and moved to southern Oregon in the late 1990’s. My original interest and occupations mainly focused on construction and general contracting. Working in construction I was introduced to the HVAC industry and found it to be very interesting. I was presented an opportunity to work at Caveman Heating and Air Conditioning 20 years ago and have never looked back.

My initial role was in residential sales and throughout the years I eventually moved up to the general manager position. During that timeframe I have been rewarded with so many positive relationships between my fellow coworkers, homeowners, contractors, and businesses. I’ve had the privilege to work with some extraordinary people throughout those years and I’m always looking forward to meeting and serving new customers. I am the fourth owner of this business and I am proud to say that we are locally owned and have been serving southern Oregon since 1981.

Being a full-service company, our expertise and capabilities are wide ranging. We design, repair and install HVAC duct systems, air conditioning systems, gas heating systems, heat pump systems, geothermal heat pump systems, radiant floor heating systems, and ductless heat pump systems. We specialized in both residential and commercial work. Our service department is staffed full time for repair work and we provide routine maintenance programs for our customers.

In addition to our normal services, we also have a fully equipped sheet metal shop which has the capabilities to build everything from basic flashing to custom chimney caps. Our installation crews install attic fans, whole house fans, or any number of different types of exhaust fans. We can provide exhaust venting for range hoods, bathroom fans, and even specialized equipment such as paint booths.

Now that I’ve talked about Caveman Heating and Air Conditioning, I would also like to thank those who have made this journey so great. I would not be in this position without the support of my wife, my family, my mentor, and the customers and business who have supported us throughout the years. I also want to give a big thank you to all of the staff here. They are the back bone providing the quality and top-notch service which has given this company the outstanding reputation we have and allowed us to thrive all of these years. Rogue Community College Welcomes New Foundation Executive Director Jackson and Josephine counties (Nov. 8, 2023) – Rogue Community College (RCC) recently selected Dan Ruby as the new Executive Director of the Foundation. His appointment is effective Dec. 1, 2023.

With a background in higher education and a commitment to community engagement, Ruby brings a wealth of experience to his new position.

“Dan is going to be a great addition to the RCC Foundation and college leadership team. His background in higher education provides him with a great understanding of our mission and the way RCC transforms lives,” said RCC President Randy Weber. “We’re confident his existing relationships in the valley will serve us well as we grow our efforts in helping students realize their educational goals.”

Ruby’s career began at the University of Nevada, Reno, where he worked as an instructor and eventually became the Director of Fleischmann Planetarium and Science Center in the College of Extended Studies. He was also the Director of K-12 Engagement and Public Outreach for the Raggio Center at the College of Education.

With a Master’s degree in secondary education and a focus on connecting high school students to careers and technical education through hands-on experience, Ruby is dedicated to education. He continues to participate in space science research and is actively involved in the community, including serving on the board of the Ashland School District.

In 2018, Ruby moved to Oregon to lead ScienceWorks Hands-on Museum and in 2020, transitioned to helping with fire recovery efforts and integrated health, housing and human services as the Senior Director for Rogue Community Health.

“I’m excited to have Dan lead the Foundation into the future. I believe he has a unique set of skills that will allow us to adapt and continue to build on the Foundation’s great success of fulfilling our primary mission of supporting the needs of the college community,” said Chair of the Foundation Board Ian Foster.

Ruby says he is eager to return to higher education and support Rogue Community College’s goals of lifelong learning and regional workforce training.

“I’m ecstatic for the opportunity to join the RCC team and connect with our community in new ways as we build a better future for Southern Oregonians of all ages and backgrounds. I look forward to working with the Foundation board and College administration on realizing our shared vision to inspire, strengthen and transform our region and the people we serve,” Ruby said.

The Young Professionals Network is for young professionals in the target age range of 18-45 who are looking for networking opportunities with other young professionals, connections to the community and business leaders, community engagement, and professional development. The network holds monthly luncheons, quarterly socials, and community service projects.

Thank you to the RCC Small Business Development Center for hosting our Young Professionals for our November Professional Development. Such an informative session, and a comprehensive overview of their services.

We heard from several advisors, each giving insight on their unique skillsets. SBDC offers low-cost courses ranging from bookkeeping and financial statements to marketing and human resources. So many great tools for those new to business as well as those already established that may need expanded training or advising.

In December, YPN will be volunteering for Rogue Winterfest as well as hosting the annual Ugly Sweater Party at Weekend Beer Company.
