Hi Members,

My family and I just returned from visiting my parents in Eastern Oregon. They live in an even smaller community called Crane. We just happened to head home on Small Business Saturday.

My parents run and operate a ranch and a feed and tack store in Crane. Like many small businesses they participated in Small Business Saturday with discounts, prizes, etc. They have participated for many years. I know firsthand how important it is to support these small businesses.

Small Business Saturday is just one day, but it really is a day to remember how important our small businesses are to our economy and quality of life.

My parents just like the many business owners here in Grants Pass have dedicated their lives to making their communities a better place to live. They have served on school boards, Cattlewomen’s, Stockgrowers, 4-H club leaders and more. They have also donated to every child’s project and non-profit in their county.

As we move into December, I ask you to take the time to thank all of the dedicated business owners in our community. There are so may ways to do that by a simple thank you card, purchasing local, sharing their social media post, and sharing a positive experience you had at their store.

For every dollar you spend, almost 73 cents stays local when you shop at a locally owned store.

Share the love and help your community. We are so lucky to live in such a vibrant town. And most of that is due to the people that live and work here in Grants Pass.

his is an extremely unusual exhibit for the museum. It is a traveling exhibit and the artist has had her work all over the world. It is very exciting that Southern Oregon will be able to enjoy this innovative art.

The exhibit in the museum utilizes every available inch of space to create a dramatic experience for visitors. All of the sculptures represent animals or birds in motion. Each sculpture is made from reclaimed plastic and metal objects. They are held together with wire and cable ties. Some have internal LED lighting.

Visitors will enjoy seeing a pair of horses galloping out of a wall, a mother polar bear swimming with her cubs, a cheetah running full speed, a cormorant diving, and a phoenix rising from the ashes. (Just to name a few). Oh, and jelly fish!

The museum provides visitors with a scavenger hunt activity to see how many of the common objects used in the sculptures can be found. It’s very fun for children and adults!

This exhibit is perfect for all ages. Admission is free. The museum is upstairs at 229 SW G Street and is accessible for all.

There is an elevator for those who cannot navigate stairs.

I

n 1982 60 Minutes and Dallas were the top TV shows, Jane Fonda’s Workout Book was a best seller, Toto won the Best Song Grammy with Roseanna, and Rouge Music Theatre was started in Grants Pass.

For 39 years RMT has been a foundation in Southern Oregon community theatre bringing family friendly musical theatre to the Rogue Valley. RMT had delighted audiences with classic musicals such as The Music Man, Wizard of Oz, Singin’ in the Rain and most recently Fiddler on the Roof, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. To Celebrate it’s 40th anniversary, this August a newly energized RMT Board is bringing the powerhouse musical, Mamma Mia!, to the PAC stage.

Who doesn’t love the music of ABBA? Their songs are always uplifting and never fail to get your feet moving. Mamma Mia! is not just a story of a young woman searching for her father but, ultimately about the relationship between a mother and daughter. The production will feature all you would expect; great music from a rockin’ live band, jaw dropping dance choreography, spectacular costumes, and promises to be over the top glitz, glamour and fun!

As a community theatre, RMT is a non-profit supported by many volunteers. RMT’s existence has always depended on the generous support our community in time, talent, and donations. From on stage, back stage, front of house or in the audience, there is room for everyone to play a part in the show. All are welcome whether you are a seasoned performer or beginner.

Mamma Mia! auditions are scheduled for April, and that’s a great time to get your feet wet in theatre if you’ve always wanted to be on stage, or behind the scenes. The Young Professionals Network is for young professionals in the target age range of 18-45 who are looking for networking opportunities with other young professionals, connections to the community and business leaders, community engagement, and professional development. The network holds monthly luncheons, quarterly socials, and community service projects.

Our November Virtual Luncheon with Hope Smith and Aaron Rushton of BBSI was jam packed with great content. The topic was “Resume Building” which defined what a Cover Letter should entail along with helpful tips on outlining a strong Resume. The recording of this presentation can be found on our Social Media.

Volunteering in our community benefits everyone.

Our last event of the year will be on December 2nd at Weekend Beer Company for our annual Ugly Sweater Christmas Party. This a FREE event however, we hope that you will help us in supporting two very important and deserving local charities, Toys for Tots and the Josephine County Food Bank.

Hunger is real for 1 in 7 of your neighbors

The Josephine County Food Bank exists to serve anyone facing food insecurity in Josephine County. We are dedicated to the collection and distribution of emergency food throughout Josephine County. Through our network of 25+ partner agencies, we feed 13,000 of our friends and neighbors every month. Shockingly, over a quarter of those we serve are children. Working families, the elderly, disabled, and those experiencing homelessness are other groups that rely on our services.

It’s up to each of us to help our neighbors by donating food, time and/or money to this cause… because no one should be hungry!

How can you help?

Donate money to our mission that “no one should go hungry” – every dollar donated provides 3 nutritious meals Advocate – follow the foodbank on social media, visit our website, sign up for our newsletter, and then share with your friends and family ways that they too can help with food insecurity in Josephine County Volunteer – We welcome volunteers Monday through Thursday, and the 3rd Saturday of each month. We always need help in the warehouse or on the farm. Bring a group or come on your own.

Food Barrels - We deliver, you fill, and we pick up!

Green Bag Program and Grants Pass Food Project – 1. With every trip to the grocery store, “Food Donors” collect one or more nonperishable food items to fill green bag(s).

2. Every other month, donors leave the filled bag(s) on their front porch.

3. “Neighborhood Coordinators” then collect the green bags, drop them off at local food banks, and return to you with more bags. Repeat.

It’s that easy. 25% of our donations come from our community, so anyone can be instrumental in getting food to our neighbors and ensuring no one goes hungry.

Hi Grants Pass and Josephine County Chamber Members!

I am excited to be joining such a friendly and wonderful community. The city of Grants Pass as well as greater Josephine County have such wonderful visitor experiences that I cannot wait to start promoting. I have a history of working in tourism for 16 years and a part of Oregon’s destination marketing industry for five years. I see the visitor industry as a very important slice of the economic pie and view my role as increasing visitation, extending the season, helping destination development while protecting the livability of our great community.

The new Experience Grants Pass is structed as a 501c6 non-profit with a board of directors that oversee the budget and programming funded by the city’s transient lodging tax. I am incredibly thankful for the hard work of the board to get Experience Grants Pass off the ground and for selecting me to lead this start-up organization.
