Hi Members, August has always been a big month for me. It was never by plan, but always seemed to happen.

I was fresh out of college and had no idea what my next step would be. When I started applying for jobs, I landed a front office receptionist job at the Laramie Area Chamber of Commerce.

Prior to applying, I was unfamiliar with Chambers of Commerce.

The rest is history. This month I am celebrating my 12th year in the Chamber industry. I stumbled into my first job, but within a month I was hooked. Now I’m celebrating four years with Grants Pass & Josephine County Chamber of Commerce as President & CEO. The Chamber world is very rewarding due to the people and businesses we get to meet and help. My favorite part of my job is meeting with business owners and learning more about their stories. Each week I try to get out and visit members on site. Recently I got the chance to visit Mycorrhizal and Siskiyou Field Institute. They are hidden treasurers in our community.

I would love to come visit you! Please reach out if you would like me to stop by. It takes less than an hour and we will even post a social media shoutout sharing some of the great things we learned about your company. Seasonal Sales Tax Information Forum August 16, 12:00 p.m.

Seasonal Sales Tax Information Forum on August 16, at 12:00 Noon virtually on our YouTube Channel.

A recording will be shared with the entire membership.

Our panelist will include Commissioner Dan DeYoung and Sheriff Dave Daniel.

If you have a question you would like to ask of the panelsts regarding the proposed Seasonal Sales Tax, please send them to jmolloy@grantspasschamber.org We encourage all of our members to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about the Commissioner’s proposal for law enforcement funding.

A survey will be sent out to each Chamber member to poll if they are in favor or against the Seasonal Sales Tax.

The Young Professionals Network is for young professionals in the target age range of 18-45 who are looking for networking opportunities with other young professionals, connections to the community and business leaders, community engagement, and professional development. The network holds monthly luncheons, quarterly socials, and community service projects.

What a fantastic turnout for our July Young Professionals Network Monthly Luncheon at the Hampton Inn & Suites. This event featured a panel of local business professionals speaking on the topic of “Decisions in Business”.

Our well-rounded panel consisted of Melissa Vierra of Evergreen Federal Bank, Mark Stutzman of Farmers Building, Feed and Garden Supply, and Kevin Gill of Clouser Drilling.

There was an abundance of great information and impactful stories. One of the questions asked was “How do you organize your day/life”. The responses were- “Map out the week, prioritize”, “Calendar reminders” and “Prayer”. Some of the other great content consisted of- “Don’t make decisions on what you like but what the customer likes”, “Obstacles are opportunities”, “Work from your values”, “Growth comes from mistakes”, “Do not grow too fast”, “Say what you actually think/feel”, “Family first”, and “Honor your commitments”. Everyone who attended walked away with something that can easily be applied to their life and career.

Our next event is Professional Development on August 16th 9:00am-10:30am. We will be touring the Josephine County Jail. Participants must be over the age of 18 and wear a mask. Please register through the Chamber Community Calendar.

The 12th annual Ride the Rogue cycling event will be held on September 24th 2022. This is a fundraiser for the Rogue River Greenway Foundation, a local nonprofit raising funds to assist in the development and construction of the Rogue River Greenway. The completed Greenway path will connect Grants Pass to Central Point where it will connect to the existing Bear Creek Greenway. Upon completion this path will connect 8 Cities, 2 Counties and create over 50 miles of regional connectivity through Southern Oregon.

We are working on the Greenway from many directions. Not all areas connect yet. Our goal is to have an off roadway separated trail but where that is not possible, have widened shoulders and bike lanes. We have raised more than $8 million dollars in grants, donations and in-kind services and material since our beginning in 2004. We have completed more than half of the trail. Our focus now is starting the section from Grants Pass to Rogue River.

The 2022 Ride the Rogue cycling event features three fully supported routes for cyclist to choose from. Our after ride meal is catered by Taylor’s Sausage and our beer garden features Weekend Brewery. This event is only made possible through the work of many volunteers and the generous support of our sponsors.

AUGUST 5th 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

The Grants Pass & Josephine County Chamber of Commerce is hosting Lemonade Day on August 5th from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.!

This year 196 participants signed up for the program. Over 40 lemonade stands will be set up throughout Grants Pass.

This is a free program creating our next generation of entrepreneurs.

These young entrepreneurs will be selling their final product. Prizes will be given for the best product and most creative stand.

There will also be a chance for the public to vote on People’s Choice- at each stand there is a QR Code to scan for voting.

Many stands will be located in Historic Downtown Grants Pass in partnership with First Friday Stroll.

Throughout the course of the program, these young entrepreneurs learn how to start, own and operate their own business- a lemonade stand. They learn business skills, financial literacy, goal setting and teamwork. This experience helps spark an explosion of new confidence in their abilities and a new vision of the possibilities for the future. Participants are encouraged to “spend some”, “save some” for the future and “share some” with a local non-profit of their choice.

This is an annual event for the Grants Pass & Josephine County Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber continues to branch out to work with all ages in our community to develop our future leaders.

Come out and show your support by visiting the lemonade stands. The community will be able to vote for their favorite stands as there are QR Codes at each stand to scan and take you to the link to vote.
