LETTER FROM DIRECTOR

First, I wanted to introduce myself and express my excitement on joining the City of Grandview and the Parks and Recreation Department. My name is Jared Elbert and prior to joining Grandview I was a Parks and Recreation Director in Spencer, Iowa. My wife Cara and I have two children and we enjoy spending time outdoors as a family and anything sports related.

The parks team has been incredibly busy since my arrival as Director in August and I would like to take time each month to update our community on projects, programs, and events going on within the department.

In August we partnered with Life 88.5 and the Grandview Chamber of Commerce to hold two large concert events that were free to the community. Total attendance for both of these events was nearly 3,000!

We are also in the process of our Master Parks and Recreation Plan. We have held an open house as well as several other opportunities to gain feedback from the community on what they would like to see in our park system over the next 10 years. We will be sending out a survey in the mail randomly to Grandview residents asking questions that will help our department build our park system based on those responses.

If you receive one please take time to fill this out because we will draw two winners from all surveys received to win either an annual individual membership to The View or a $500 Visa gift card.

Our department has also been making major improvements to The View Community Center. In September we replaced all of the rooftop air conditioning units. We also repainted our pools, rearranged our fitness equipment, deep cleaned, and made necessary facility repairs.

Lastly, we will also be making important changes to our parks. Our staff, Park Commission, and the Board of Aldermen have approved the purchase and installation of 14 Park ID signs. All parks will receive a new updated sign that will be consistent throughout the community.

Respectfully,
