In Town Focus First Congregational Church Holiday Events Alternative Gift Fair Want your Christmas shopping to do some good? On Sundays, Dec. 3 and Dec. 10, shop from a selection of gifts from Ten Thousand Villages (Fair Trade crafts and gifts, made by hand) and Heifer International (an organization working to end hunger and poverty around the world by providing livestock and training to struggling communities). Come for lunch—because Sunday lunch is always free--and do some shopping. 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Acoustic Christmas First Church invites friends and neighbors for a family-friendly Christmas jam session on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. Bring a request for a favorite Christmas song, an instrument, an act, or just come to tap your toes. There will also be a cookie contest for charity called, Fuel Your Neighbor, Inside and Out. To participate, bring three dozen cookies on a plate with your name on the bottom; votes will be cast by putting money in a jar next to each plate. The winner gets bragging rights and all money goes to the Granby Fuel Assistance program. Blue Christmas Inevitably we all experience loss and the grief that follows. During the holiday season, however, the normal process of grief can be heightened. On Thursday, Dec. 21, 7 p.m., come to the church sanctuary for the Blue Christmas to remember, and to receive comfort and support. A community dinner, open to all at no charge begins at 5:30 p.m. in Cook Hall. You are invited to bring a favorite holiday side dish or dessert to share. Coffee, tea, mulled cider and cookies will be served following the service. This annual event is co-sponsored by Carmon Funeral Home. Christmas Eve In addition to the regular 10 a.m. service on Sunday, Dec. 24, there will be two evening services, both with carols and candlelight—a 5 p.m. service, most appropriate for young children, and a 9 p.m. service.
