No problem with this, I haven’t had chance to catch up with Cameron recently, however the feedback from site is very encouraging. Cameron has fitted in well with the team and is making good progress and has shown a good grasp of the role in hand. He can perform setting out duties with minimal supervision and has great potential. Hopefully, this can be maintained and I’m sure Cameron has a great future ahead of him, hopefully engaged on further Moortown projects.

FYI we have also offered a permanent role to Lorna Howard who I believe completes her HNC in Construction Management at York College in the coming weeks – Lorna will be taking up a role at our Full Sutton Project which is scheduled to be on-site in July this year.

We believe it is essential to attract young people into the industry, and it has certainly improved our links with local colleges, as well as improving our social value commitment. It has been a positive experience having Cameron as an apprentice engineer on this project. Very eager to learn and showed great interest. Once on site, it was imperative that an appropriate ‘mentor’ could be found. The work is fast paced, and as Cameron gained more experience, time demands diminished as he developed. It is so important that employers make sure they put the time in to get the best for both student and the company. Establishing a good relationship to engage and support the college to promote both the business and the industry makes a big difference overall.

MEET CAMERON...

Cameron came to us on a 360hr work experience placement through York College. Over and above the 360-hour requirement, Cameron worked through last year’s summer holidays and throughout this year (and to date) he has attended site 2-3 days per week fitting around his academic studies. Cameron will be taking up a position with us as an Apprentice Site Engineer from September 2022.

During his placement he has been working alongside our site engineer gaining experience in setting out duties (he’s now capable of setting out with minimal supervision), and general construction works as well as an understanding of our ISO9001 QA Systems. We have also facilitated his CSCS card prior to his placement.
