Optimism – your super power – the why and the how
Victor Perton asks people what makes them optimistic. Victor is Chief Optimism Officer at the Melbourne-based Centre for Optimism. Formed one year ago as the offspring of The Australian Leadership Project, the Centre’s members are drawn from 56 countries. Victor’s underpinning beliefs are “The leader looks like the person in your mirror” and “All good leadership is infectiously optimistic”. He is the author of Optimism: The How and Why and The Case for Optimism: The Optimist’s Voices; and editor and founder of The Australian Leadership Project. Victor’s life experience includes stints as Commissioner to the Americas, 18 years as a parliamentarian, practice as a barrister, mediator, arbitrator, businessman and board service. He was a Senior Engagement Adviser to the Australian G20 presidency focused on the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meetings, and the Brisbane G20 Leaders Summit described by the Prime Minister as “the most important gathering Australia has ever hosted”. The evidence for the health impact of optimism is now so strong, Professor Laura Kubzansky, Harvard’s’ Lee Kum Kee Professor of Social and Behavioral Sciences, said in September “Optimism is a health asset and a potential target for public health interventions.”
