VICTOR PERTON
Victor Perton asks people what makes them optimistic. Victor is Chief Optimism Offi cer at the Melbourne-based Centre for Optimism. Formed one year ago as the off spring of Th e Australian Leadership Project, the Centre’s members are drawn from 56 countries.
Victor’s underpinning beliefs are “Th e leader looks like the person in your mirror” and “All good leadership is infectiously optimistic”. He is the author of Optimism: Th e How and Why and Th e Case for Optimism: Th e Optimist’s Voices; and editor and founder of Th e Australian Leadership Project. Victor’s life experience includes stints as Commissioner to the Americas, 18 years as a parliamentarian, practice as a barrister, mediator, arbitrator, businessman and board service. He was a Senior Engagement Adviser to the Australian G20 presidency focused on the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meetings, and the Brisbane G20 Leaders Summit described by the Prime Minister as “the most important gathering Australia has ever hosted”. Th e evidence for the health impact of optimism is now so strong, Professor Laura Kubzansky, Harvard’s’ Lee Kum Kee Professor of Social and Behavioral Sciences, said in September “Optimism is a health asset and a potential target for public health interventions.”
