The Graduate Union Strategic Planning Day 2021

A big thank you to all who participated in the Strategic Planning Day on Saturday, the 10th of July. Members of Council, and of its subcommittees and working parties, met to plan for the medium to longer term future of The Graduate Union. The day began with a keynote address from the Chairperson of Council, Cr Vincent Mirabelli, on the day’s theme of ‘Purpose and Identity’. This was followed by a panel of the subcommittee chairpersons who each presented key priorities (on behalf of their respective subcommittees) for inclusion in the 2022-2024 Strategic Plan which is now under development for release early next year. A second panel of Council members then presented on key features of the longer-term, ten-year G-House and G-Union Master Plans. The concluding session was facilitated by the President, The Hon Diana Bryant AO QC, and resulted in the listing of key strategic recommendations to be considered in greater depth by Council over the remainder of the year, particularly with respect to alternative revenue sources and directions for the terrace redevelopment. The pandemic presents many challenges and many opportunities for our 110-year-old Association. This strategic planning day proved to be positive, productive and forward-thinking. It was reassuring to have intelligent and generous experts from a wide range of relevant disciplines and sectors come together to work cooperatively, professionally and comprehensively to develop solutions and guide us forward. We are indeed fortunate to be in such capable hands.
