Couple found murdered, suspect being sought

BOSHOF | VELDBRAND TOKOLOGO The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Free State has launched a manhunt after a couple was found murdered inside their car. “On Thursday, 07July 2022 between 15:00 and 16:00 police received information of shooting incident on the R64 road between Dealesville and Boshoff road. On
arrival they found a White Triber sedan parked on the side of the road. The car was travelling from Dealesville to Boshoff. Two people were found dead who were later identified as Lucas Moleme (52) and his wife Lyntjie Moleme (50),” said SAPS Free State spokesperson Sinah Mpakane.
■ KWAZULU-NATAL Four dead, eight wounded in Pietermaritzburg tavern shooting PIETERMARITZBURG | VELDBRAND KZN MIDLANDS Another four people are dead after a shooting at a Pietermaritzburg tavern in KwaZulu-Natal. Eight others were rushed to hospital. It's alleged two armed men driving a VW Polo stormed into the tavern
around 8.30pm on Saturday night and opened fire on patrons. Two were killed on the scene and two died in hospital. Police have launched an investigation.

Suspect nabbed 9 years later after woman loses R110 000 in forex scam BUTTERWORTH | VELDBRAND BUFFALO CITY An Eastern Cape woman lost R110 000 after investing it in a forex scheme on the premise she would receive a great return, which she never did. The Hawks moved swiftly and arrested Zanele Qasha, 39, at OR Tambo International Airport on Wednesday after nine years on the run. She appeared in the Kempton Park Regional Court on
Thursday for charges related to investment scheme fraud. Hawks Eastern Cape spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said a woman invested the money after attending Qasha's forex trading investment presentation at Lilitha Guest House conference room in Butterworth on 4 April 2013.

– 59.04% ,Local PA support collapsed within 8 months, as voters opted for the DA's trusted brand of good governance and service delivery. The decision of Councillor Christo Boks, to resign from the PA and stand as the DA's ward candidate in this by-election, has been fully vindicated. The voters showed that they are completely behind his decision. Police holding cells in Graaff-Reinet unfit for use GRAAFF-REINET | DA PRESS RELEASE
The holding cells at the Graaff-Reinet Police Station are not fit for detention purposes and urgent intervention is needed by the national government. Two complaints about overflowing toilets at the station were recently brought under my attention and I submitted a question to the Minister of Police requesting clarity. In his reply, the minister admitted that the sewerage system at the police station was extremely outdated, and that budget had been allocated for a revamp during this financial year. He disputed that there were problems with overflowing toilets. Given the allegations that had been made, I conducted an oversight inspection at the station. While overflowing toilets are not an issue, the holding cells are an unmitigated disaster. Of the eight possible cells available, only two are usable – one very large one, used for the drunk and disorderly, and another one used for male detainees. Of the remainder, three are permanently locked as the locking mechanisms have been seized. In two of those, the bars had to be cut to get the detainees out of the cells. Another one has a
damaged solid door that is extremely dangerous. Drinking fountains do not work. Some of the showers are not operational and there are cells with toilets that do not function properly. Another major issue they face at the station is that the contract for the washing of blankets used by the detainees has lapsed, and no blankets have been washed since October 2021. I will be liaising with my colleagues on the police portfolio committee, on a national and provincial level, with respect to the challenges faced by the police in Graaff-Reinet. As DA Shadow Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure I will be taking up issues around the repair and refurbishment required at the station in the national parliament. I will also be following up to ensure that the upgrades to the sewerage system are undertaken. Irrespective of the fact that those using these facilities are people who have broken, or have allegedly broken the law, their basic human rights should be acknowledged and protected. media@veldbrandmediasa.co.za
