In July 2010 a man named Tavo Hellmund said he had a longtime relationship with family friend Bernie Ecclestone, and it was this unique status, he proclaimed, that would allow him to succeed where whoknows-how-many others had failed. He would build a state-of-the-art F1 mega circuit in the wholly obvious location of Elroy, Texas, about 20 minutes outside of hip and thriving Austin. Approximately 120,000 fans would flock - oh, this was going to happen. Many didn’t believe it. There was little reason to when you considered F1's history in this country. And despite other’s disbelief, Hellmund and motorcycle racing legend Kevin Schwantz trudged through problem after problem, facing numerous issues that threatened the USGP in Austin. But in the end (cue the music) the crowds did flock and stared wide-eyed at the gorgeous 3.4-mile circuit that was everything he said it would be – the best facility showcased the best race of 2012. All right, now that the credits have rolled you are probably wondering what this has to do with MotoGP. Well, it only makes sense that after the success of F1, MotoGP gets a turn. And you know it will be good! As a complete, modern facility, the Circuit of the Americas stands absolutely unrivaled by any racing venue on this continent. Period. And as for the views? Excellent sightlines and the grandstands offer great views of more than a single corner or straightaway. If you love MotoGP, the circuit is the ice cream and the vibrant city of Austin is the cherry on top. It doesn’t get better than this!
