Welcome As Chairman of the GPS Association for 2024, and on behalf of the nine GPS Headmasters and Principals, I am delighted to welcome you to the 2024 GPS Music Showcase. Tonight promises to be a wonderful evening celebrating the creativity, talent and dedication of students from across our GPS community. We also pay tribute to the leadership and commitment of the teachers and professional musicians who inspire and develop our students, and our wonderful community of parents and families who provide invaluable support and encouragement. Symphony Orchestra Conductor

Ms Stefanie Smith Stefanie has acted as assistant conductor for the Opera Beatrice and Benedict and worked with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. Stefanie is a freelance conductor who works regularly with the Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra and across number programs in Queensland. Stefanie is the founder and conductor of the ensemble Consorte Eclettica which supports emerging local artists in Brisbane, premiering and performing chamber orchestra works in collaboration with other art forms. Stefanie has

Big Band Conductor

Dr Simon Petty Dr Simon Petty holds an international reputation as a musician, educator, and researcher, contributing regularly to the eld of music education and research through conferences, publications, clinics and adjudications. Simon is the music education lecturer in the School of Education and Professional Studies at Griffith University and Coordinator of Pre-Tertiary Jazz Studies at the Open Conservatorium, as well as Musical Director of the Young Conservatorium Jazz Orchestra. Prior to this, his career spans over a decade teaching simultaneously across primary, middle, and senior schools, tertiary, community, and professional settings.

Simon holds a distinguished reputation as a performer and educator; and is highly regarded for his musical experience and inspirational teaching style.

A graduate from Queensland Conservatorium, Simon holds a Bachelor of Music in jazz trumpet performance and instrumental music pedagogy, a Graduate Diploma of Education, Graduate Certi cate in Music Studies, and a Doctor of Philosophy. Simon pursues a busy performance pro le, performing and touring with many of Australia's foremost big bands, jazz ensembles and orchestras. His professional instrumental and conducting activities include: radio and television performances, musicals, and commercial recording sessions.

Concert Band Conductor

Mr David Jones David Jones has been a resident of Brisbane since making the move from Sydney in 1989. His academic journey is marked by a commitment to musical excellence and a diversity of styles and genres. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music, a Graduate Diploma in Education, and a Masters of Music - Composition.

initiatives. Since 1992, he has held the position of Musical Director of the Brisbane Municipal Concert Band, one the country’s longest running community music organisations. Additionally, in 2007 he founded the Brisbane City Big Band, an ensemble that he continues to direct today and which is now rmly embedded in the musical tapestry of Brisbane.

Currently serving as the Head of Music at Hillbrook Anglican School in Enoggera, David's role is multifaceted. In this position, he directs various ensembles, and teaches both classroom and instrumental music playing a pivotal role in shaping the musical education landscape at the school.

As a composer, David has written for a diverse range of ensembles and soloists. His works appear regularly on concert programs and festival lists throughout Australia and internationally.

David's passion extends beyond the con nes of the school. He is deeply engaged in community music

Choir Conductor

Ms Kate Albury Kate has a reputation as a dynamic and exciting choral conductor. Kate has conducted choirs for the Celtic Connection Chorus and the Con Chorus at the Qld Conservatorium of Music. Most signi cantly, she is regularly invited to join the elite conductors from around Australia to be part of the Artistic Team of the National Gondwana Choral School. Kate gained her Bachelor of Music Education from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Griffith University as well as a Masters Degree in Choral Conducting at the University of Queensland. She is currently on the choral faculty of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music where she conducts the Conservatorium Chorus. Kate frequently works throughout the state as a guest conductor and clinician at school and community festivals. Kate has also previously held the position of Vice-President of the Queensland chapter of the Australian National Choral Association.
