A Word From GPB President Bert Wesley Huffman
by gpbdigital
Dear Friends,
Welcome to your August issue of GPB Next. While the pages of this magazine are most certainly a wonderful outline of things coming to you on television, I hope you also find that it’s a well-rounded view of GPB overall. We’re doing so much here, and this is an excellent way of showing you just that.
Thanks to your support, we’re able to push beyond the boundaries of television, radio and digital content and share GPB’s message through a variety of community engagement opportunities. And, whether that plays out where you live with events or virtual opportunities or in the classroom across the state through our vital education program, we are working every day to give Georgia quality opportunities to engage with public media. You make that happen.
On the cover of this issue, we’re highlighting the fascinating three-part series The Boleyns: A Scandalous Family. Premiering on August 28, the series follows the rise and fall of a family dynasty that rose from obscurity to the apex of power. All of this changed the very course of British history and the world.
In this issue, you’ll also read about our increased commitment to covering Georgia’s rural health issues and stories with the addition of a Report for America corps member, the latest on the PBS Kids Writers Contest and how that played out at GPB, and an interesting new efforts bridging GPB’s community engagement initiatives and our news operation called America Amplified. So much going on!
I’ll leave you to enjoy a wonderful month packed full of great things from GPB on various platforms. And, as always, we are so thankful for the time you spend with GPB across all these initiatives, as well as the vital role you play in supporting it.
Warmly,
Bert Wesley Huffman GPB President and Chief Revenue Officer
Make Your Will Today
What better time to plan for the people and causes you love?
August is National Make-A-Will Month
Nearly two-thirds of adults do not have a legal will, and without one, local laws and regulations can dictate how your assets are distributed. Having a plan is the most effective way to ensure your wishes are followed. More than that, estate planning is an opportunity to protect the people, communities, and causes that make your life special. Courtesy of FreeWill, GPB is sharing a free estate planning tool with our members: • It’s 100% free to use or update at any time. • It takes 20 minutes or less to complete your plans. • It can be used to create an optional legacy to support your favorite
GPB programming.
