Pelham, GA (Mitchell County) 9/23/59 Not much memory here other than (for some reason) I can still see my parents reaction to the news that John F Kennedy had been assassinated in November of 1962. I was 3 years old. I have an image of a black and white TV, the news on constantly, and my parents being concerned. I also remember feeling safe and loved. Never in danger or too concerned myself, but I remember sadness. And lastly, I remember my parents' friends and other homes where we would go for meals and fun. It was where I first began to think I loved our home, but I could Moved to Elizabethtown, NC - A pattern of learn from others as well and choose my own path in life. I later always welcomed me in their home. One last memory was wandering off one discovered this same pattern existed with day into some woods near our home, getting lost for an hour or so, stung by both of my grandfathers and to some some bees, and the old fashion belt-whipping that ensued from Dad! degree with my dad.

Each of us has a personal Journey Line that began the moment we were born. The Journey Line is a story of your life. The highs and lows, events, values, and influences that shaped your thinking and development as a person. This is my journey line looking back 60 years. Cheers to my personal journey!

I loved school and being around other kids. I always had a positive self-image and was aware of others feelings and their outlook on things. I remember feeling like a leader at young age, but also sitting back and letting the game come to me.

He thought about doing something more entrepreneaurial in the peanut business, but the relathionship with Uncle Bill made that tricky. (**) The photo to the immediate right is my Granddaddy, Rev Garland Singletary who died two years before I was born. I have always regretted never knowing Granddaddy Singletary and even grieved his death at one point in my mid 40s. See CRHP notes below.

I love seeing my sisters, brother-in-law, nephew and neice at the beach most summers. I wish I could see them more often.

Ms Fisher's Kindergarten

Anything with a ball. I remember my mom spending a lot of time with me in our front yard, tossing balls at me to try and hit with a bat. My mom was my biggest cheerleader and she encouraged me to shoot for the moon. She always held up great role models, especially successful business people and athletes as examples of those who believed in themselves and Confident, happy, relaxed and ready to take had strong self-images. on the world!

From my birth in Pelham, Georgia, to my childhood in Virginia and North Carolina. To college in Chapel Hill and Columbus, Ohio. To California, Kentucky, Colorado, and back to Virginia. To Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and Texas. By laying out my journey, I am more self-aware. I see patterns, victories, and mistakes. From this perspective, it is easy to imagine and create what I want for the next third of my life from a place of confidence and freedom. A timeline is a good thing to do . . .

Mom, Dad, Page and Gay - Elizabethtown, NC

I am ready to sell something! Got a black mark one day for talking too much in Kindergarten. Teacher would put a star on your head at end of day and sometimes it was a little black star. You were not supposed to look at it or take it off until you got in the car with your parent. I took it off and threw it away before mom arrived.

Gene as a young boy and young man above with MeMa and his brothers Max and Jerry. My parents (Gene & Billy Gay) were both postive influencers. I could not ask for more in terms of what they gave and how they loved me. My dad managed peanut mills his entire career (after a short stint as a teacher) and my mom was a school teacher.

I have been so blessed. There are many people whom I loved, appreciated, and have thought about when doing this timeline. I couldn't get them all down, nor get through the thousands of photos I have accumulated, but I tried!

Fishing with Dad was a regular thing through the years.

We were good in all sports in high school and rarely lost a game.

Basketball, Baseball, Soccer; Boy Scouts, Chess Club and Girls! Mom gave me this book because I hated losing.

Did not like going to choir on Sunday nights. Just not my thing but my sister Gay loved it.

Ridgecroft High School

Lucky! That is the best word for me to describe my family. I have been blessed to be from such a fun, large and diverse family and to marry into a great family as well. I am especially grateful to my parents, to Pop and Bebe, and to Pat and Diane for sharing their beach with us through the years! And to all my many cousins (Singletarys, McDowells, Van Pattens, and Fullers.)

Somewhere in here there were some bullies on the playground. I tried to stand up to them and I got my butt kicked. But I knew I was right and they would never make it in the world if they could not learn to treat others with respect. So in a way, I won! I PLAN TO WRITE COACH ROGERS A LETTER THIS CHRISTMAS AS I OCCASSIONALLY DO. THIS MAKES ME FEEL GOOD AND I IMAGINE HE ENJOYS READING MY THOUGHTS ON HOW HE iNFLUENCED MY LIFE IN SO MANY WAYS. I LAST SAW HIM AT MY DAD'S FUNERAL FIVE YEARS AGO. Photo below is my first close friend, Chris King.

Mom found Coach Rogers and started our towns first Little League. He was 21 & might as well of been Mickey Mantle. Tall, handsome, great athlete having just graduated from 4 years of college baseball at NC State. He really knew the game & loved to teach and coach. He was (and still is) a farmer when not coaching. I went back to visit Coach Rogers some 40 years later where I found him still coaching kids how to play baseball. I also found lots of my old teammates from those years, which was really cool, like the gents in Coach Rogers above. My Grandfathers - The Peddler photos to the left. and The Preacher - three of my heros!

Baptized at Wakefield First Baptist Church / A nice janitor (Mr Austin) at Waverly Middle School taught me how to read a baseball box score!

Gail Cherry - my first girl friend. She was a good one.

ADOLESCENCE

1967

Little League Baseball was a big deal. I hated losing and Coach Rogers had some talks with me about sportsmanship. I believe my competitiveness in sports has played out well in the business world. I first remember becoming a huge sports fan in general and listening to games on a transistor radio my Grandfather gave me. Cincinnati Reds, Virginia Squires (ABA), and UNC basketball and football.

Never remember feeling anything other than secure financially; though I was aware other families had more money, more stuff and did more things like travel or have the latest home gadgets for example.

Moved to Wakefield, VA

Always in the yard playing with a football, baseball or basketball. I have always loved balls. Still do to this day. I can't imagine life without balls and I get grumpy if I go a day without one. Made middle school basketball team, probably because my mom could pick up teammates after practice and drive them home!

HOW OLD WAS I?

Uncle Pat (above) and Great years with special friends in Wakefield - Owens, Aunt Dianne - like second Nettles, Ashworths, etc. - Welcome Corn! parents to me!

Ahoskie was only 75 miles from Wakefield, but it felt like a million miles to me. But this move put UNC & Chapel Hill in my sights.

Cut from JV basketball team at Ridgecroft. Have a burning desire to never have that happen again. Always could find someone my size who was capable of competing at a high level and learn from them. Still true to this day. I love watching small golfers get that ball in the hole! I may not be the most talented, but I will out work you.

Loved this little school. It was perfect fit for me as I could (eventually) make all of the sports teams and compete in three sports. I was not a great athlete, but above-average hand-eye coordination and I loved to compete. I also loved the process of trying to do something the right way and would spend hours perfecting a skill. I became a huge Cincinnati Reds fan and listened to every game on radio during the Big Red Machine Years. Also every UNC Tar Heel game!

Johnny Bench was my sports hero; lots of great teachers and coaches including Curtis Cluff, Ms Harrell, Ms Jenks Johnson (math), Ms Taylor (science), Coach Neal (Soccer) and Coach Lowe (baseball coach in photo)

Baseball Team went to State Finals my senior year. You can't coach speed like this! That's Roy Lowe our head coach.

Have strength and courage at Autodesk. Use FY20 momentum to launch FY21 with strong OTC, followed by GDC, and fast start for new fiscal year. Set goals that match Autodesk vision, mission, and strategy. Visit key customer sites in Europe this summer. *** Take sabbatical with Cathy & Lucy in June, July timeframe. Explore Scotland, Ireland, and England! Make a list of towns and golf courses to visit and play. *** Remember, by continuing as a top ADSK producer, I can imagine and create the next phase of my professional and personal life. *** Explore leadership opportunities if a good fit presents itself. *** Continue to look closely at my needs in my Birkman, identify those needs that are being met, meet those needs that are not being met, and know that I am in charge. Scripture says: 'If God is for you, who can be against you.' *** Become more aware of my stress behaviors and reframe. *** Freedom from stress feels and looks good on all of us! *** Continue to guide, nurture, and help Lucy through college leading to her graduation in 2022. *** Continue to mentor and coach professionals who seek my guidance, especially sales people looking to grow and flourish. *** Continue to do personal development that I enjoy and leads to growth. *** Refine my professional and personal brand to expand my writing, to share relevant thoughts while encouraging and coaching those who may ask for guidance. *** Help Cathy explore ways to use her PT business more advantageously. ***
