LOCKHEED MARTIN'S JOINT AIR-TOGROUND MISSILE ACHIEVES MILESTONE C DECISION, ENABLING LOW-RATE INITIAL PRODUCTION Share to FacebookShare to TwitterShare to LinkedIn

ORLANDO, Fla., June 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Lockheed Martin's (NYSE: LMT) Joint Air-to-Ground Missile (JAGM) system has successfully passed its Defense Acquisition Board review and achieved milestone C. The signed Acquisition

Decision Memorandum approves the JAGM system to enter into Low-Rate Initial Production (LRIP). JAGM is a multi-sensor air-to-ground missile that is the successor to the combat proven HELLFIRE Romeo and HELLFIRE Longbow missiles. Backward compatible with all rotary wing and fixed wing platforms that fire the HELLFIREÂŽ family of missiles, JAGM employs a multi-mode guidance section

that offers enhanced performance on the battlefield. The multimode seeker combines improved Semi-Active Laser and millimeter wave radar sensors providing precision strike and fire-and-forget capability against stationary and moving land and maritime targets in adverse weather and obscured battlefield conditions.

The U.S. Army and U.S. Navy awarded Lockheed Martin a 24-month contract for the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase of the JAGM program which included JAGM production, test qualification and integration on the AH-64E Apache and AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters. The EMD phase also established an initial low-rate manufacturing capability in support of three follow-on LRIP options, with U.S. Army Initial Operational Capability expected early 2019.

Defense & Federal Contractors News July 2018 Previous S&T contracts with the U.S. Army, together with Lockheed Martin

investment, helped mature the MHTK missile from basic research to a concept

demonstration with two configurations – a semi-active radio frequency seeker and an active radio frequency seeker. MHTK has conducted a dozen flight tests

with a combination of investment and contract funds. The most recent controlled flight test in January at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, demonstrated the interceptor's increased agility and validated performance of the airframe and electronics, which are now common between MHTK's two configurations to drive affordability. The MHTK missile is designed to defeat rocket, artillery and mortar targets

through body-to-body contact without a warhead at ranges projected to exceed those of current and interim systems. The missile is just under two and a half feet (76 cm) in length, an inch and a half (4 cm) in diameter and weighs about five pounds (2.2 kg) at launch. The compact size of MHTK allows multiple rounds to

be packaged in a very small footprint to effectively combat complex threat situations like saturation attacks. The MHTK interceptor complements the Lockheed Martin family of Hit-to-Kill missile interceptors by delivering close range lethality with proven success for truly layered defense.

A Super Hornet Returns to its Nest The Boeing Service Life Modification program begins May 07, 2018 in Defense Boeing inducted the first F/A-18 into the Service Life Modification program, which will modernize and extend the life of the U.S. Navy Super Hornet fleet. The Super Hornet, which returned to Boeing St. Louis in early April, received a warm welcome during a ceremony on May 4 attended by U.S. Navy representatives, local elected officials and Boeing employees. “Three hundred and fifty plus Super Hornets will come through this line in the next five to six years … so we can support the needs of our nation,” said Rear Adm. Michael Moran, U.S. Navy. “The F/A-18 Super Hornet is the premiere strike fighter for the U.S. Navy today and for the foreseeable future.” Shelley Lavender, senior vice president of Boeing Strike, Surveillance and Mobility said at the height of the Service Life Modification line, Boeing will deliver more than 50 Block III Super Hornets to the Navy per year off two modification lines and one production line. “Not only will this program extend the lives of current aircraft, but we also will begin inserting new technologies, and within a few years we’ll be taking Super Hornets out of the fleet and returning them as Block III aircraft,” Lavender said. Work on the first four aircraft will be completed in St. Louis. An additional production line will be established next year in San Antonio. In the early 2020s, Boeing will begin conversion of existing Super Hornets to the new Block III configuration. Additional follow-on contracts could be awarded during the next 10 years.

The signing ceremony came in conjunction with HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s visit to Seattle, which included an official visit and tour of Boeing’s aircraft manufacturing facilities. Boeing

In line with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 and following the announcement of HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crowne Prince, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers and Minster of Defense, to localize 50% of the total military spending by 2030, Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) and Boeing [NYSE: BA] today signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to develop a new joint venture (JV) aiming to localize more than 55% of the MRO services for fixed and rotary-wing military aircraft in Saudi Arabia. The agreement will also transfer technology to install weaponry on these aircraft as well as localize the supply chain for spare parts in the Kingdom. (continued)

Defense & Federal Contractors News July 2018 The signing ceremony came in conjunction with HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman's visit to Seattle, which included an official visit and tour of Boeing's aircraft manufacturing facilities. The agreement was signed by H.E. Ahmed Al-Khateeb, Chairman of SAMI, and Dennis Muilenburg, Chairman, President, and CEO of Boeing, at Boeing's commercial manufacturing facility in Everett, Wash. The ceremony also included a comprehensive visit to the manufacturing facilities of Boeing, featuring a detailed explanation of the company's operations. Commenting on this important milestone, H.E. Ahmed Al-Khateeb, Chairman of SAMI, said, "Boeing has a long-standing commitment to Saudi Arabia, and is extremely keen on expanding its footprint in the country. Inspired by the vision of HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman, SAMI, on the other hand, is exploring all collaborative opportunities to build a strong autonomous military industries ecosystem in the Kingdom." The joint venture agreement will provide sustainment services for fixed- and rotary-wing military aircraft of the KSA military fleet and will be the sole provider of these services for all military aviation platforms of the KSA military fleet, strengthening the Kingdom's defense capabilities and enhancing its deterrent potential. "We deeply appreciate the trust that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in general, and HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman personally, are placing in Boeing to help deliver Vision 2030 with this new joint venture," said Dennis Muilenburg, Boeing Chairman, President, and CEO. "Our relationship with the Kingdom dates back more than 70 years, and we look forward to continuing our successful partnership in support of the Kingdom's national security and aerospace industry needs." The MoA will further solidify the enduring relationship between Boeing and Saudi Arabia and result in the development of local research, design, engineering, manufacturing, and MRO abilities. The JV will continuously improve performance and growth, upgrade the readiness of and increase confidence in the Saudi military fleet, enhance maintenance capabilities, and reduce support costs throughout the fleet's life. In addition, the agreement will create 6,000 jobs and training opportunities for Saudi youth, support local content, improve Saudization levels in the industry, and assist towards achieving the ambitious Vision 2030 plan. Dr. Andreas Schwer, CEO of SAMI, added, "The significance of the MoA, which is signed today, will enable SAMI and Boeing to play a key role in leading and laying the foundational framework for Saudi's defense sector industrialization, in line with the goals of the Kingdom's National Transformation Program and Vision 2030. In addition to local sustainment capabilities, the inevitable partnership between the two companies could explore the creation of intellectual property as well." Once the MoA is operational, the joint venture will provide a foundation for future platform sales and for expanding Boeing's presence in the Kingdom to support market growth for both commercial and defense programs.

Security in Its Place Boeing team delivers 44th GMD interceptor during year of program milestones and awards March 20, 2018 in Defense The Boeing-led Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) industry team and its U.S. Missile Defense Agency customer recently received two awards for “hitting a bullet with a bullet” -- a 2017 flight test in which a GMD Ground Based Interceptor destroyed an intercontinental ballistic missile-range target. The government-industry team accepted the Aviation Week Grand Laureate Award on March 1, 2018, and a Nelson P. Jackson Award from the U.S. National Space Club & Foundation on March 16. The honors topped off a year of successful program milestones including delivery of the 44th Ground Based Interceptor to the Missile Defense Agency at Fort Greely, Alaska in November 2017, and a contract extension from the agency in January 2018 to lead the GMD industry team through the program’s next evolution. This will include a new missile field and 20 more interceptors. GMD is the backbone of the United States’ ballistic missile defense system, providing the only homeland defense against ever-evolving and increasing long-range ballistic missile threats. Boeing has been the system’s prime contractor since 1998, partnering with its Missile Defense Agency customer in the design, development, integration, test and sustainment of all GMD components. T-X cockpit revealed! Future engineers get first look inside Boeing T-X January 30, 2018 in Defense, Community Boeing revealed its new T-X aircraft design and the first two product aircraft in September 2016. Last week, five future engineers from Missouri high schools and universities had a chance to experience the full advanced pilot training system for themselves. They became the first members of the general public to see and experience its advanced cockpit. Designed with future generations in mind, the Boeing T-X cockpit features a simple layout, superior visibility, stadium seating, an upfront controller display and a large area touchscreen display. "This is more geared toward the generation coming up, and it's easier to use than the old way of switches and knobs,” said Myles Hinton, a senior from Hazelwood Central High School. “So you can really relate to having to use this like you would use your phone on a day-to-day basis." The students also toured the state-of-the-art classroom, which included desktop trainers and interactive displays; flew the real-as-it-gets ground base training simulator guided by a former T-38 pilot instructor; and had the opportunity to climb into one of the jets with Boeing T-X chief test pilot Steven “Bull” Schmidt. "Brand new features include the avionics large area display, the up-front control and the touch-screen technology,” said Steve "Bull" Schmidt, Boeing T-X Chief Test Pilot. “We've really tried to put as much functionality on there as we could and take as many mechanical switches out of the cockpit." Boeing T-X is an all-new advanced pilot training system designed specifically for the U.S. Air Force training mission. It includes trainer aircraft, ground-based training and support – designed together from the ground up. And, if the U.S. Air Force selects Boeing T-X, it will train fighter and bomber pilots for generations to come. Watch the video to hear from the students as they experience firsthand the T-X advanced pilot training system. Learn more about Boeing T-X by visiting www.boeing.com/T-X or following #NewBoeingTX on social media.

General Dynamics Completes Integration Milestone for NASA Space Network Ground System Sustainment Program June 27, 2018

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – A General Dynamics Mission Systems and NASA team

successfully completed a milestone with the installation and initial checkout of

equipment needed to upgrade two NASA Space Network ground terminals at NASA’s White Sands Complex in New Mexico. Site integration readies the

updated ground terminals for ‘end-to-end’ communications testing scheduled for later this year. The installation, integration and testing are part of the NASA

Space Network Ground Segment Sustainment (SGSS) program.

The Space Network ground terminals provide command, control,

communications and operations management for the Tracking and Data Relay

Satellite (TDRS) constellation, the space element of NASA’s Space Network. The TDRS constellation is responsible for communicating with more than 40 spaceclient missions including the International Space Station and Hubble Space Telescope.

Defense & Federal Contractors News July 2018 “The NASA Space Network Ground System is the communications hub for 40

individual space missions currently in orbit, with more missions planned in the future,” said Manny Mora, vice president and general manager of General

Dynamics Mission Systems. “This is a very large-scale, complex program and together with our NASA team, we are making significant progress without

interrupting the legacy Space Network Ground System’s day-to-day operations.”

General Dynamics is also working with the NASA team to complete 40 individual mission transition plans, defining the specific steps needed to move the

operation of each TDRS client satellite from the legacy ground system to the new system. With the technology updates, the ground system will have greater

resiliency to secure and manage unanticipated disruptions of the Space Network. It will also be able to expand and manage new NASA missions, in addition to those currently operated by the Space Network.

the F-35 Lightning II recently entered full-rate production. This milestone marks the beginning of a 1.5day production interval (PI) meaning a center fuselage will be produced every day and a half.

“Our customers and warfighters deserve the best,” said Frank Carus, vice president and F-35 program

manager, Northrop Grumman. “Every efficiency, every minute, and every dollar we save reduces costs and speeds up the F-35’s availability to the warfighter. Achieving this pace is a testament to our employees, suppliers and teammates’ commitment to quality and affordability.”

Carus also noted that the 400th F-35 center fuselage was completed and delivered to Lockheed Martin last month and production of the 500th F-35 center fuselage began last week.

“This pace of military aircraft production has not been seen in decades,” said Kevin Mickey, sector vice president and general manager, military aircraft systems, Northrop Grumman. “Our revolutionary

Northrup Grumman Incorporates Data Northrop Grumman Incorporates Data Collected from AQS-24B to SeeTrack System Collected from AQS-24B to SeeTrack to Create Enhanced Minehunting Capability System to Create Enhanced Minehunting Capability

LONDON – June 28, 2018 - Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) and SeeByte are collaborating to

incorporate AQS-24B mine hunting sensor data into the SeeTrack system to enhance its Autonomous

Target Recognition (ATR) capability.

The AQS-24B scans the ocean floor at a speed of 18 knots, which is nearly twice as much as any other

operational towed minehunting device in the world. It utilizes a high-resolution, side scan sonar for real time detection, localization, and classification of mines at high coverage rates and a laser line scanner to provide precision optical identification. The AQS series minehunter is used globally and has logged thousands of hours of operation.

“The merging of the unmanned surface vessel-based AQS-24B with the SeeByte ATR will provide

international navies with a better probability of detection and classification of bottom mines than is currently possible with an operator-only system," said Alan Lytle, vice president, undersea systems, Northrop Grumman.

Northrop Grumman and SeeByte began their collaboration over a year ago and will be ready to

demonstrate an initial release of this new capability during the Australian Navy's planned Autonomous Warrior 18 exercise in Jervis Bay, Sydney, NSW in November.

"This will be the first ATR in existence directly supporting the highest-speed synthetic aperture sonar in the world, and marks a true advancement in the state of the art for such capabilities," said Bob Black, CEO of SeeByte.

The product of this collaboration will be available for upcoming new mine countermeasures ship and payload programs across Europe, the Middle East and Pacific Rim.

SeeByte provides clients in the military and oil and gas sectors with advanced software to enhance the

capabilities of their underwater sensors, vehicles, and systems. SeeByte partners with leading hardware manufacturers to provide enhanced capabilities for its sensors and systems to provide cues to enhance the warfighter's ability to find undersea explosives.

Australia to Purchase Triton Aircraft System, Australia to Purchase Triton Aircraft Deliving Unprecedented Maritime Domain System, Delivering Unprecedented Awareness Maritime Domain Awareness The Australian Department of Defence officially announced its plan on June 26, 2018 to purchase the Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC)-built Triton aircraft system, further cementing the company’s commitment to a longstanding U.S. ally.

An unmanned aircraft system with an autonomous capability built for maritime intelligence,

surveillance and reconnaissance, Triton is the first Northrop Grumman-built aircraft system Australia

has purchased. The system will be operated by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF).

“Northrop Grumman looks forward to bringing the Triton unmanned system with its autonomous

capability to Australia,” said Ian Irving, chief executive officer, Northrop Grumman Australia. “Working

with the Royal Australian Air Force and the U.S. Navy, we are confident that we can provide the best capability to fulfill Australia’s maritime mission.”

(L to R) Northrop Grumman Chairman and CEO Wes Bush, Prime Minister of Australia Malcolm Turnbull,

Australian Minister for Defence Marise Payne, Australian Minister for Defence Industry Christopher Pyne and Australia’s Chief of Air Force Air Marshal Leo Davies AO, CSC.

Triton can fly at altitudes of 55,000 feet for 24 hours at a time and is equipped with sensors that provide high-resolution imagery and near real-time video. Pilots and sensor operators fly the Triton from

ground stations, which can command flights all over the world.

“Triton provides unprecedented endurance and 360-degree coverage through its unique sensor suite,” said Doug Shaffer, vice president of Triton programs, Northrop Grumman. “Australia has one of the largest sea zones in the world over which it has rights to use marine resources, also known as an

Economic Exclusion Zone. As a flexible platform, Triton can serve in missions as varied as maritime

domain awareness, target acquisition, fisheries protection, oil field monitoring and humanitarian relief.” Triton builds on Northrop Grumman’s legacy of success in autonomous systems. The U.S. Navy recently acquired two operational Triton aircraft and is under contract for six more. These aircraft will go to

Guam later this year and provide the Navy with an unprecedented common operating picture of the maritime environment. Triton can detect, classify and track ships over large swaths of ocean and littorals. The U.S. Navy program of record is for 68 aircraft. (continued) © 2018 Federal Buyers Guide Inc.

Defense & Federal Contractors News July 2018 Northrop Grumman has been building its presence Down Under for many years. The global aerospace

and technology company will be the anchor tenant of an AUD $50 million Electronic Sustainment Centre of Excellence, to be established at the Badgerys Creek Airport precinct in western Sydney. The new

centre will support advanced electronics such as communications and electronic warfare equipment, and targeting pods. Northrop Grumman will bring together highly skilled technicians, engineers and

other professionals whose work will be further supported by the company’s high-end technology and software expertise.

Through a Global Supply Chain Deed signed with the Australian Department of Defence in 2011 and

renewed in 2017, Northrop Grumman is identifying opportunities for Australian industry to be part of

the company's global supply chain. For example, Northrop Grumman’s largest Australian F-35 Lightning II joint strike fighter supplier, Quickstep Technologies, demonstrated that its new production facility is equipped and qualified to manufacture and deliver quality composite parts for the F-35’s centre

fuselage. At a new facility opened in Bankstown, Sydney, in 2012, Quickstep is expected to manufacture over 36,000 parts for the F-35.

Northrop Grumman also works with CEA Technologies, one of Australia's leading military electronic systems and radar companies, and Electro Optics Systems, which develops products incorporating advanced electro-optic technologies for the global aerospace market.

“Australia and the United States are celebrating 100 Years of Mateship this year, marking an alliance that goes back to the trenches of WWI. Northrop Grumman is proud to partner with such a loyal friend and provide this unprecedented capability to the RAAF,” said Irving. “We consider Triton and its

autonomous technology to be the future of the next centennial of aviation, and we are honored to be part of this century-long partnership.”
