hen Cory Legner walked in to D-BAT Lewisville to help his son harness his baseball skills, he didn’t realize the wholesale change that would take place in his life.
Cory was offered the chance to partner with Mike McGowan and make his love of baseball and helping young adults a full time career. And now that he’s doing it, he’ll never be the same. In an interview with Cory, co-owner of D-BAT Lewisville, he shares with us his inspiration for joining the facility and how his background has enlightened their mission to hone the talent and love of baseball and softball in the young adults under their tutelage. D-BAT Lewisville is the culmination of Cory’s passion when it comes to baseball. Whether he was playing or coaching others, Cory has always had a hand in the sport. You would think that being part owner of D-BAT Lewisville would fulfill that desire to engage and share his love of baseball, but it hasn’t. Even in his free time, he says, you can often find him at the ballpark with his “wife Jen and [their] two boys enjoying the opportunity to see them play and enjoy the same game [he] did when 26 | Best of Denton County | 2013 |

[he] was their age.” Now with D-BAT Lewisville he gets to impart his wisdom and love of the game to other kids as well. At D-BAT Lewisville, Cory tells us he has teamed up with his partner to provide “an atmosphere for boys and girls to learn the fundamentals of baseball and softball.” “Seeing [his customers] grow as athletes and young adults and the successes they achieve” is one of the most exciting parts of what he does. Their business would not be able to provide these achievements without D-BAT Lewisville’s instructors who, Cory says “recognize that each customer is unique and they tailor their instruction to those needs.” Giving “clients the skills to be successful at any level” is D-BAT’s ultimate goal. From his own words Cory makes it clear that he has found his niche in the atmosphere he and his partner have created at D-BAT Lewisville. There he and his exceptional instructors are able to develop the skills of the younger generation and relish in their achievements. Sharing in the successes of the young adults that come into their facility on a daily basis is one of the great joys of being an owner in this business. “Knowing what we are in business to do and the impact our instructors have on our client’s enjoyment and respect for the game, I’m

certain I could never fully give that up,” he says. And while Cory is humble about the lasting impression D-BAT Lewisville has made for itself, he hopes “people think of [us] as a business that instilled the respect and enjoyment for the game. That same respect and enjoyment that we all had as young aspiring ball player[s]. Hopefully we’ve had a part in continuing to pass that on to future generations.”
