CTV-F2 Operations Manual Operation • Locate filter where one can conveniently replace the cartridge filters. • Install clean filters. • Connect an extension hose to outlet of the CTV, Cooling Tower Vacuum to the female camlock fitting on the filter, look for the “inlet” label on valve. • Connect an outlet hose, p/n 6221 to the male camlock fitting labeled “Basin” on the bottom of the valve and secure the outlet end in the basin or cooling tower. • Connect another p/n 6221 to the male camlock fitting labeled “Drain” and secure the outlet end to a drain. • Pull the valve handle up slowly to filter basin (Cooling Tower) water. Backwashing • As pressure increases the vacuum process slows, at about 25 psi the process may be too slow and one should backwash. • The vacuum end or at the location of the vacuum tool shall be lifted up into clean water before backwashing or the filter will quickly clog from both sides. If air is sucked into the hose, the unit will lose prime. • Backwash for 15 seconds or until water in the upper two hoses appears to be clean. • When the CTV vacuum does not vacuum, even when the filter is backwashed, change the filter. The filter can be backwashed 2 to 3 times before changing. Why? The particles are so small they clog inside the filter material and can’t be pushed out with backwashing. This is typical when filtering fine particles. Change Filter • Turn the CTV vacuum off. • Check pressure gauge and make sure there is zero pressure. • If there is a reading, open all valves on the CTV vacuum except the prime valve. • If there is still a pressure-reading, shift the filter valve slowly up and down. • Loosen the T-Handle slowly, make sure the lid can move or be wiggled before removing the clamp completely. At the other end of the T-handle is quick flip release, when the clamp is loose, flip this out and spread the clamp to remove completely. • Replace the filter cartridge. • Unscrew the T-Handle to end of the T-Bolt but not off. • Clean the O-Ring and lid sealing surface. • Secure the lid in the center housing and hold with one hand. • Place the V-Clamp around the flanges while holding the lid in the center of the housing and flip the quick release back over the T-Bolt then tighten the T-Handle. Should the filter-housing leak, turn the CTV vacuum off and tighten further. • Pull the valve handle up for filtering and your ready for vacuuming.
