Don’t Miss the Moment

Throughout the Bible, in both the Old and New Testaments, people were given moments by God to impact their surroundings. In some cases, the moment was seized, and great things happened. In other moments, they were missed, and the people suffered for it.

In Numbers 13, Joshua was given an opportunity to seize the moment when he was included as one of the twelve spies who entered into the land of promise to do surveillance. This was a moment that Joshua did not turn down. When Joshua and Caleb returned, they gave their recommendation for the people of God to take their moment and enter into the promised land.

Unfortunately, the people resisted because they were afraid, and they missed their moment. As a result of this, they wandered in the desert for many years afterward. In Joshua 1, Joshua is given another moment, and this time it was for him to lead his people into the land of promise. Moses had passed away and Joshua was now leading the Israelites. He could have easily said, “No, they are bigger and stronger than we are,” and chosen not to go on, but he seized the moment, and the result was the Israelites walked into the land of promise.

While many of us may never lead a group of people into their promised land, each of us is given moments to impact someone’s life. The person you take a seat next to at a restaurant and God tells you to talk to them. The co-worker who is struggling with inner turmoil and God says to help them. The person you run into in the grocery store and God tells you to pray for them. These are all moments that God sends to each of us every day. What excuse can we come up with to miss our moment? Can we be like Joshua, seize the moment, and someone’s life changes before our eyes?

One of my favorite moments is when I am praying for someone, and at the end, they look at me with tears in their eyes and say, “How did you know?” The truth is I did not know, it was all God, and I chose to allow Him to speak through me. That is a moment that I have missed many times in the past. When God has placed something on my heart and I choose not to speak it, only to find out it was something the person was struggling with. I missed my moment.

In this very moment, God is creating moments for us as believers of Jesus Christ to reach into the darkness and

deliver light into someone. It could be as simple as sharing your testimony. The moment we are given could have as much impact on us as it does on the other person. When we act in obedience to God, the impact could end up taking us to a new level that we never dreamed possible. Keep your eyes open for the moments that God orchestrates right before your eyes.
