Are you beaten down from the storms that life has dealt you? Does it seem like the road you are on goes on and on? I can tell you there is power over that storm or situation. Just as the Word of God tells us, when Peter was in a boat against a terrible storm, he called out to the Lord. “But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, ‘Lord, save me.’ And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, ‘O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?’” (Matthew 14:30-31).
As we are here on Earth, I’m sure most of us have had similar issues that have happened to us. But just as Peter did, we must remember to call out to the Lord to save us or help us. He is faithful and just to be beside us. “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).
We must have faith in all things and trust in the Lord. Hebrews 11:1 reminds us of this: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” If you have the substance before you or if you can see it, there is no use for faith. Faith is needed for what we can’t see and can’t touch. Faith does not contradict reason, though it may go beyond reason. One may objectively prove that the Bible is the most unique book ever published and has impacted society more than any other. But only faith can prove that the Bible is the Word of God. Therefore, this is a belief beyond reason, but not in contradiction to reason or against reason. Faith is not a bare belief or intellectual understanding. It is the willingness to trust in, to rely on, and to cling to. “And he that searches the hearts knowest what is the mind of the Spirit because he maketh intercession for the same according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them according to His purpose” (Romans 8:27-28).
God does not always answer the prayer of the believer. For example, He did not answer Paul when he prayed three times about removing his thorn in his flesh. “And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness’” (2 Corinthians 12:9). However, God always answers the Spirit’s intercession on our behalf because He always prays according to God’s standards or will. Christians should take courage that God’s will is fulfilled regardless of our failure to pray properly. If the deepest longing of our heart is to do the will of God in our prayer, the Spirit will meet us in that prayer.
