he Bible tells us that in the day we sin, we shall surely die. Then, it goes on to tell us that everyone has sinned and come short of the glory of God. What does that mean for you and me? It means that we are all “convicted criminals”. We have been convicted of breaking God’s laws. And, to make matters worse, we are convicted criminals sitting on death row according to Romans 6:23. Now, if you’re like me, you don’t like that title attached to your name. But I submit to you that it is critical that we know where we have come from if we want to truly appreciate what God has done in our lives. A fellow minister once said, “We’ve been saved too long. We’ve forgotten where we came from.” The question now becomes, “Why would the King of the universe die a cruel, humiliating death to save a convicted criminal like me?” The answer is: Because that’s how much He loves you and me. It is not until we fully understand our predicament that we can fully appreciate what Jesus did for us. Not only did Jesus save us from our sin and our death sentence, He has now called us “fellow-heirs” and “sons”, even referring to us as His friends in one passage. Consider Galatians 3:26, 27, 29 which says, “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many as you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ...And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

From “convicted criminal” to the “son” of the Most High King, now that is a title that most of us would welcome! But, it’s not until you acknowledge what we used to be, that you can appreciate where we are now. Another benefit that comes from remembering where God has delivered us from, is when we interact with others. So many times we want to spew judgment towards others, all the while forgetting that’s exactly where we came from. Anytime I want to get impatient with others, or judge them hastily, God simply has to remind me how patient He has been with me, even since I’ve been saved! If God so loved me, when I was a convicted criminal sitting on death row, then I can love others. A lot of people will go out of their way to help someone good, what we would deem a “worthy cause.” But, who will help and love those that are “criminals”? Jesus did. And my Bible tells me that He was the example we should follow. According to Matthew 25, Jesus tells us that how we interact with the downtrodden and “undesirables” in our communities, will determine whether we will inherit eternal life or eternal punishment. He says that when we minister to the needy, we are ministering to Him. The next time you see someone in need, remember what Jesus did for you! About The Author

s a mother, and an educator, I have learned that science is not the enemy of Christianity, but the confirmation of God’s wonderful plan of creation. Here are some fun things you can do with your children to teach them some simple scientific principals as well as God’s amazing ways. 1. Bubbles and Balls: Using several different bubble wands, show the children that no matter the shape of the wand, bubbles are always round. The reason they are round is that bubbles are shaped by the air pressure around it. God doesn’t want us to be shaped by our world, but for us to remain the way he made us, like a rubber ball. Eventually, a bubble will break because the pressure outside becomes greater
4. Diversity Lesson: Take several hard boiled eggs, and dye them different colors. After they dry, peel them and show the children that on the inside, they all look the same. Then explain how God created us all differently and yet on the inside, we are all the same. 5. Salt Makes a Difference: Using a ¼ cup Epsom Salt, and ¼ cup warm water, in a clear cup stir until the salt is dissolved and then add a few

3. Penny Polishing: Find some dirty pennies, and place them in a clear cup. Cover them with lemon juice and let them soak for 10 minutes, then clean them off with a paper towel. Laying Up Treasures just love yard sales. Every year, I look forward to the warmer Saturdays that spring brings and those neon pink and green ‘Yard Sale’ signs that inevitably begin to pop up all over town. There is something thrilling about searching through boxes and tables and garages full of others’ castaways. You just never know what you’ll find! A cute shirt that is just my size, a barely-used candle, a well-worn ball glove for my son, endless possibilities. I have to be careful not to overdo it, because it doesn’t take very much “collecting” to clutter up my house and crowd out my own cabinets, drawers, and closets. Consequently, I have to have yard sales of my own every year or so. It’s a vicious, selfinduced cycle. This cycle of wanting something and then getting rid of it helps me to be mindful of how much importance I place on things that have no eternal value. Like the physical possessions that eventually become ‘junk’ at a yard sale, such is anything in life that I am giving my time, my money, my thoughts, or my ‘heart’ to that isn’t a part of God’s eternal plan for my life. Matthew 6:21 says, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” As women, we tend to put our heart into most of what we do, from our careers to our families to our hobbies and interests. The danger comes in forgetting that this life of ups and downs, with all of its priorities and responsibilities, is not eternal and our treasure is not here! It is natural to want a happy life full of good things, but sometimes we become so involved in the immediate circumstances of our lives that we forget that this world and everything in it will soon be gone. You have probably heard the expression “You can’t take it with you when you go”. While it may be true that we cannot take anything from earth to heaven, what we sometimes forget is that we can store up treasures in Heaven while we are here on earth! Matthew 6:19-20 says, “Do not store up for yourselves

treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal.” To me, these treasures are our relationships with God and others whom we strive to reach with the Gospel of Christ.
In this fast-paced world of busyness that can often get overwhelming, it is such a comfort to be reminded of the truth of our Father’s steadfast and unchanging love that will last for all of eternity. He is the one treasure that we can take with us in the end, when all else has faded away. Hold to His unchanging hand today and cling to those treasures that have real, eternal value. Granted, I am greatly simplifying the fact that this world has many hills, valleys, rivers, deserts, etc, that would make land less than ideal to live on, not to mention what is needed for food production. My point is that we need to need to have discernment; is what the world says true or not, especially if the world is stating that there are too many people? Our children need to have that discernment as well and we need to be able to teach them to discern what is true or not in all things. It is even more important to note that Jesus said that He is “the truth” (John 14:6). If we teach our kids to look for truth, they will be more apt to find Him. May we have the honor of teaching our children the ability to search for the truth so that they may find Him. It starts by asking “why?”

y son Eli is four years old and he is starting to ask a lot of questions. Sometimes his questions can be frustrating, particularly if they involve the “why” question and never seem to stop. Answering one “why” leads to another and so on. I catch myself sometimes losing patience with him because he doesn’t seem satisfied with the answers and I think he is just playing with me. Misuse of the "why" question can lead to frustration for parents, but that doesn’t mean we should discourage our kids from asking it. There are lots of reason why a child should learn to ask “why.” Case in point: Have you ever heard someone say that the world is overpopulated? A healthy diet, regular exercise, obtaining appropriate screenings, getting adequate sleep and rest, maintaining an intimate relationship with the Lord, and engaging in fellowship with others are all vital to one’s holistic health. Be sure to put good things into your body, including what you watch, read, and listen to on a daily basis. Be sure to include prayer for health, protection, and any needed healing. Some people are concerned that if they seek medical advice, they are not trusting God. God created healthcare providers and Christian providers seek the Lord in their daily work. Holistic health is best achieved through a healthy balance of approaches. Extreme approaches to your health may include a decision to stop all of your medications, or on the other end of the spectrum, to only depend on medications. God wants us to collaborate with Him to achieve health

Avoid the tendency to simply accept a diagnosis or treatment without investigating the situation on your own or seeking other advice. You are the best person to know your own body. Ask questions and advocate for holistic health. A good health practitioner will want to understand and know the big picture of your health. God created our “whole” being. All of the parts of our bodies are meant to work together in a synergistic way, each part cooperating and collaborating with the other parts. Luke 10:27 states, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself.” This is a perfect verse for demonstrating how we are meant to be, not built with disconnected body parts, but with all of our parts working in synchronization.

rowing up, I remember thinking how great my father was. How smart, how talented, how kind, how perfect he was. Being older now, and looking back, I think about him and realize he wasn’t perfect, but he was really close! When my three girls were young and growing up, I often remember thinking I wish I was as great a father as my father was. He set such a high standard of integrity, and raised such a high bar of character and love. What a legacy he left and what a name to try and live up to! Speaking of leaving a legacy, we find in Genesis 17, that God speaks to Abram and changes his name to Abraham. God also informs him that he will be a father of many nations, and that He would establish a covenant between Himself, Abraham, and his descendants. No difficulty living up to that standard and name, huh?! What could possibly go wrong there? Now, I know that Abraham’s life and decisions were far from perfect, however, we read later in scripture, that God calls Abraham His friend, and that he was highly recognized, recommended, and even renowned for his great faith. What seems to be an impossible standard to reach in men’s eyes, turns out to be a success in the eyes of the Lord. Speaking of high standards, imagine having to live up to the ultimate name of Jesus, the Messiah, the Son of God. That same name that causes storms to cease, makes demons tremble and flee, heals bodies and souls, and eventually brings every kingdom to its knees. Imagine trying to live to that standard, and live up to that name. Wow! Not just anyone could do that. It would take someone very special. Someone worthy of not only the calling, but worthy of the opportunity. The one referred to as the only begotten son of the Father. The one who humbled Himself and came to earth to be an example for us. And the one to whom the Father looked down upon and said, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I

am well pleased” (Mark 1:11, NKJV). He was worthy, He is worthy, and He forever will be worthy, and He continues to live up to that name. And here is an awesome truth: so can you. You can live up to the name God has given you, the calling He has given you, and yes, even the opportunity He
has given you. No matter your history, good or bad. No matter your story, good or bad. No matter your training or lack thereof, good or bad, you can leave a great legacy, and you can live up to your great name! Jesus doesn’t look at your failures and disappointments, he looks at your potential and at what He sees as His finished product. So, be encouraged fathers, for although you are not perfect, you are considered a friend of our Heavenly Father, and worthy of all He has for you. Strive to be the great father your kids believe you are, and leave a legacy with them worth leaving, and they too will carry on your name!

It was coined almost twenty years ago by Tom Brokaw. Former anchor and managing editor of the NBC News, Mr. Brokaw published his best-selling book, The Greatest Generation, in 1998. By doing so, he forever set the phrase in our hearts and minds. While the phrase may be familiar, but have you ever stopped to wonder what makes this group of people ‘The Greatest Generation?’ Four Factors Contributing to the Formation of the Greatest Generation 1. spider veins are synonymous with varicose veins and that all varicose veins are “cosmetic”. This is simply not true. Although venous high pressure, defective valves within the veins and weak walls of the veins are responsible for both varicose veins and spider veins, this is where the similarities end. These disorders are two distinct medical conditions which require two distinct treatment protocols. Spider veins are cosmetic, varicose veins can be cosmetic or medical depending on severity and or symptoms. Spider veins have no effect on health, just appearance. Varicose veins can be associated with symptoms which affect health and limit

Honor Your Parents hildren, obey your parents in the Lord; for this is right. Honor thy father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise” (Ephesians 6:1-2). This past year I turned 40. The big “4-0.” I have gray hair and a 15-year-old who thinks she is always right. I have a husband and my mother lives with my little family. If we were doing algebra, this would be a very hard equation to work out. Stress gets high and in the
same year we moved, relocated, and I changed jobs. Again, stress gets high. My mom is not healthy, but she would move heaven and earth to help in any way she can. You see, I never question my mother’s love; her motives are always pure even when they upset me. I get upset and when this happens, I don’t always have unconditional security from all those around me, but I do from my momma. She loves me in spite of me. She is usually the one who gets the “Lord forgive me” moments. For this I apologize. On behalf of all of us silly kiddos who haven’t learned yet, please forgive us.

God takes us through seasons of our lives and when we are in one season transitioning to the next, we can feel lost and alone. That’s where I was in January of this year. In my new season I began working with senior citizens. Through this opportunity the Lord has shown me so much as a child of a senior. Each season holds new promises. Lesson # 1: A parent’s love is without end. When our parents begin to age, we can either do what the Bible tells us, or we can choose to ignore it. Lesson # 2: The Bible doesn’t say to honor our parents if they have been good parents. There are no guidelines for the command! We honor regardless. Lesson # 3: As our parents age, the roles shift a little. What if your mom or dad didn’t make sure you had milk for the next day or clean clothes? What if they didn’t check on you? Make a simple phone call. Lesson # 4: There are so many ways to get help if you are ages 60 and up. If you are caring for someone ages 60 and up, there is help! Use google and research. Get the help! Your parents shouldn’t have to decide if they will buy medicine or eat supper. Research! Final Lesson: We are not promised tomorrow. Love well and love fully. To the mommy’s and daddy’s reading this, just keep loving those adult children, keep pressing in. To the children who have aging parents, stand on the word of God and honor your parents. Seek out help and love them well. Go hug your parents if you still have them on this earth. They are of much value. Let the hurts of the past go and love! About The Author

We never had less than we NEEDED to eat but we didn’t always have enough of what we WANTED to eat. This fried chicken recipe is a beautiful memory of our Mother’s love and determination to make each of us happy. As kids, we all three actually loved the chicken liver and would camp out in the kitchen as Mom cooked the chicken. To prove her equal affection for us, she would very carefully create three
Rinse all of the chicken parts and pat dry ~ Add salt and pepper to flour for breading. Generously coat each chicken piece with the flour. Heat oil to medium high temperature. Place chicken (including the gizzard and the Iiver) in hot oil and brown well on each side before reducing heat to medium. Cook chicken approximately 25 minutes - turning as needed to insure even doneness. Remove cooked chicken to a paper towel covered plate to remove excess oil. Serve and enjoy!

Father, Child, and Unconditional Love any times in this journey of life we feel certain that we know our love ones and all they stand for. This was my experience until I received a very special gift from God. This gift began to unveil itself on May 30, 2015. Little did I know, this began the last 17 days of my daddy’s earthly life. My father exemplified a life that lived to honor and follow Christ in all he did. He lived compassion, honesty, joy, meekness, a controlled strength, and was faithful to his calling as a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ. It was during these last 17 days of his life that I truly understood the blessings I had been afforded by having this man as my father. Of all these blessings, one of the best was being a “preacher’s kid.” I learned about compassion, commitment, and dedication watching Daddy as he shepherded these churches. Because of Daddy’s ministry, I have been blessed to have so many people in my life. Many have stayed in my life, some passed through my life for a short time, but all touched my life and I am forever blessed by their presence. Daddy had a way of guidance and discipline that left you feeling stronger and braver after the incident was over. One such memory came to mind during those last 17 days with Daddy. As a young teen, I had a piano recital and for this recital the teacher gave us the option of memorizing our music or using the sheet music. As I shared this information with Daddy, he encouraged me to rethink my choice of using my sheet music. He realized that the teacher may be using this assignment as a way to see who would go to extra lengths to do their very best. I assured him that my music piece was difficult and it would be better to use my music. Daddy gently reminded me of Proverbs 3:5-6 (his favorite scripture).

The evening arrived and with a new dress, new shoes, hair done at the beauty shop, and music in my hand, I took the stage. Taking my seat on the piano bench I begin to play. All went well until I turned the page. With the motion of turning the page, my music took a leap off the piano and landed on the floor! I had to retrieve my music and then continue to play my
piece. One word describes this scene…devastation! As we arrived home, everyone had a comment about my demise, except Daddy. I felt unconditional love from Daddy! As I reflect upon this memory, it reminds me of the unconditional love of my Savior. When I choose a wrong path or choice He is there to forgive and redeem me. His love for me never wavers. He may be disappointed, but His love for me is always there. “From the fullness of His grace I have received one blessing after another” (John 1:16). About The Author
