Tennessee Osteopathic Center

Tennessee Osteopathic Center (TOC) is a locally owned and family operated Direct Primary Care (DPC) and Integrative Medicine practice here in Cleveland. Dr. Tyler McCurry is a board-certified Family Medicine Physician who can care for all your primary care needs. As an Osteopathic Physician (DO), Dr. McCurry is also board-certified in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM)—a method used to diagnose and treat different conditions involving bones, joints, and muscles.

Born and raised in Cleveland, Tennessee, Dr. McCurry obtained his medical degree from Lincoln Memorial University—DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency training at East Tennessee State University. During his time at LMU-DCOM, Dr. McCurry completed a one-year teaching fellowship in Osteopathic Principles and Practices and Medical Gross Anatomy. While at ETSU, he was part of the inaugural Longitudinal Acupuncture and Integrative Health Training in Residency where he received hands-on training in acupuncture and integrative health. He also served as chief resident in his final year and was the recipient of the Integrative Medicine Award.

After residency in 2016, Dr. McCurry returned to his hometown where he has practiced medicine ever since. In his first year of practice, he felt a need to learn more about nutrition. He completed a one-year health coaching certification course through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. He also gained experience practicing wound care and working with hospice and palliative care.

Seeing the gaps in care that are caused by insurance regulations, Dr. McCurry sought to practice medicine in a better and more cost-affordable way. This is when he discovered a growing style of practice known as DPC—a low-cost primary care option that offers greater access to care. In 2020, he and his wife, Lillian, opened TOC. TOC operates on a monthly membership fee instead of insurance, allowing you and your doctor to make the final decision about your healthcare. The membership fee is paid directly to TOC, so you know up front how much your healthcare will cost. Any lab tests and procedures performed in the office are included in your membership. We have also negotiated cheaper cash prices for any other lab tests that need to be sent out of office—as well as prices for imaging.

Generic medications can be purchased directly by us and filled for our patients at cost, saving them a trip to the pharmacy and keeping them from having to pay inflated costs due to insurance. House calls and after-hours visits are also available—when appropriate—at no additional charge. In this way, we help you take control of your health.

Members receive 24/7 access to their doctor. As a member, you get a cell phone number in which you can reach Dr. McCurry any time of day or night. Office visits are scheduled to be one-hour long, so we can plan out your personalized healthcare in an unhurried environment that focuses on your individual wellness needs. In order to provide high-quality care, we only have about a tenth of the number of patients as compared to traditional, insurancebased practices. Although we limit the number of patients in our practice, we will always have time for you. There is no “squeezing you in” between other appointments—making you feel rushed. When you have an acute issue, we can see you the same or next day.

Finding the right doctor and primary care office is important. Effective primary care is built on the relationship between you, your family, office staff, and the doctor. We offer a free visit before you sign up to ensure we are a good fit for you. As opposed to other local practices, we also include Integrative Medicine services. Integrative Medicine merges traditional healthcare with alternative forms of medicine. At TOC, we treat the whole person—body, mind, and spirit. Our bodies are capable of self-regulation, selfhealing, and maintaining health—but sometimes our bodies need a little help getting there. That is where we come in. By understanding the structure and function of the body, we can develop an effective treatment plan unique to each person and their needs. These services are offered to members and non-members alike, although members do receive a certain number of treatments included in their membership and beyond that receive a discounted rate. At TOC, these services include OMM, acupuncture, and health coaching.

Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) is a drug-free, non-invasive, hands-on medical treatment that focuses on total body health by treating and strengthening the musculoskeletal framework. This holistic approach to healthcare uses manual techniques known as Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) to provide overall good health and well-being.

Acupuncture is one of the oldest forms of traditional Chinese medicine and is still used today in Integrative Medicine. It is a technique that involves stimulating specific points on the body by inserting thin needles into the skin. Acupuncture may help ease chronic pain such as low-back, neck, and osteoarthritic pain. It is also used in the treatment of tension headaches and the prevention of migraine headaches.

Health coaching is a one-on-one program that focuses on helping you reach your wellness goals. This is not about one diet or one way of living. Instead, each program is individualized to your specific needs—diet, lifestyle, emotionally and physically.
