he Bible says in Job 21:15, “What is the Almighty that we should serve him? And what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?” We live in a day when prayer, especially public prayer, has become controversial. Today, if Christians pray in public, they are threatened with lawsuits. So, the question arises, is it worth it to pray? In Job 21, we find individuals questioning the profit of prayer. The word “profit” speaks of that which is valuable and/or beneficial. They were asking, is there any value to prayer? How does it benefit me to pray? Well, the good news is that there are no limits to prayer, because there are no limits to God. Yes, prayer is profitable! Lord Alfred Tennyson said, “More things are wrought by prayer, than this world dreams of.” Notice also they said, “If we pray.” Martin Luther said, “As it is the business of tailors to make clothes and of cobblers to mend shoes, so it is the business of Christians to pray.” However, the people in Job’s day spoke of prayer as something they might consider doing. They did not view prayer as something that was an important discipline to practice, but rather as something they might think about doing, maybe. If disaster, crisis, or problems came along, then perhaps they might pray. Again, we have seen this as recently as September 11, 2001. On that day, and the days that followed, even Congress was praying on the steps of the Capitol. However, the Bible’s depiction of prayer is not

one of just praying in the time of crisis, but of a daily practice. It has been said that the weakness found in our Christian lives can oftentimes be traced back to a lack of praying. The practice of prayer should never be an “if”; it should always be a “when.” They asked, “What profit should we have, if we pray… unto Him.” They were really questioning God as much as the practice of prayer. Does God have the power to answer prayer? Yes, the Bible declares the power of God to answer. Matthew 7:7 says, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” But, not only does the Bible declare the power of prayer, it also demonstrates it. Time after time in God’s Word, we see examples of what prayer can do. From Elijah on Mount Carmel, to Joshua in the valley of Ajalon, to the prayer meeting taking place while Peter was in prison. The Bible shows us God’s power to answer prayer. Christians are commanded to pray, need to pray, and must pray. John Newton, the songwriter who penned Amazing Grace, also wrote these words: Thou art coming to a King Large petitions with thee bring; For his grace and power are such; None can ever ask too much. The Most Important Promises
hat are promises? What do they even mean to you? Well, a promise is a declaration or assurance that one will do a particular thing or that a particular thing will happen. When you make promises you should never break them. Ever. But what’s the most important promise that someone could experience? God’s promises are the very most important promises ever. For example, in the Bible there are 5,467 promises! When God speaks or declares in the Bible it becomes a promise because he speaks things into existence. I’m going to tell you some of the most meaningful promises that God makes to us.
First, in Exodus 20:12 it states, “Honor your father and mother so that you may live long in the land Lord has given you.” That’s just amazing; if you just obey your parents, you will have extended days on earth. Second, 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us of our sin and purify us from all unrighteousness.” If we do something wrong or even feel we did, all we have to do is go to God, and he will just forgive us. Next, in Deuteronomy 31:8 it states, “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you, do not be discouraged.” So the world’s Savior will never leave your side because he promised. Also, in John 3:36 it says, “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life but, God’s wrath remains on them.” If you believe in Jesus, we will also have eternal life, but if not, you will face God’s wrath. In Mark 11:24 it says

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you received it, and it will be yours.” Just to think everything you will ever need God has. He can help you in every situation whatever you’re struggling with, he will answer your prayers. In Philippians 4:6-7 it says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God, and peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your mind in Jesus Christ.” Really we have nothing to worry about. God’s got it covered; he has our back in every situation, everyday struggles, pain. Anything and everything goes to God. What will we ever need with God if he has our whole entire lives planned out? Exactly! Nothing. So all we need is to keep our eyes on him. When Peter took his eyes off of Jesus, he began to sink, but then he called out to Him and didn’t take his eyes off of Jesus and walked on water. We can do anything when we have faith in God. In Luke 1:37 it states, “For nothing will be impossible with God.” So what's our purpose on this earth? To argue over sports or presidential debates? One reason is to share God’s word and to tell everyone you know about the promises that He has given. He sent his son Jesus as a baby, to die on the cross, rise again for you and all your sins. My final question is this: would you do that for Him?

Faithful Men

his contemporaries. Regardless to age, multiple generations heard the gospel, were lead to believe, and instructed to remain “faithful.” And what does it mean to be “faithful?” Well, without sounding too academic, faithful could be viewed as “full of faith.” Or to be more biblically correct,
“one worthy of trust” (1 Corinthians 7:25) or “one that can be relied on” (1 Timothy 3:1; 2 Timothy 2:11; Titus 1:9; 3:8; Revelation 21:5; 22:6). Believers are called upon in scripture to be faithful in the stewardship of our financial or monetary resources (2 Kings 12:15), in our employment (2 Chronicles 34:12), our relationship with God (Galatians 3:6-9), and with others (1 Timothy 6:2), as well as in our family affairs (Titus 1:6). Even so, to the very end of our existence on earth, we are to be faithful (Revelation 2:10) in order that when we awaken in our Lord’s presence we are found to be the same (Matthew 25:21). Men, be faithful!

otably, these are the “faith FULL” words of the aged apostle Paul to a young upstart by the name of Timothy. While attending the recent Iron Sharpens Iron Men’s Conference in Chattanooga, I heard these same words echoed by the seasoned pastor Ken Adams of Crossroads Church in Newnan, Georgia. Additionally, Ken is founder and director of Impact Disciple Making Ministries, a group committed to inspiring people and churches to be and build disciples. And how is such a phenomenal feat to be accomplished? I’m glad you asked! Truth be told, I learned first-hand from Ken, whom I got to meet personally while attending the conference hosted by Men’s Ministry Network. To illustrate effective discipleship, Ken used me in a role-play to hastily move among the gathering of men, about 500, and touch as many as I could in 10 seconds. In that brief amount of time I personally touched about 20 men. Not bad, I thought, for my physical exertion. To double by effort and reach others in this discipleship exercise, I was allotted another 10 seconds and assigned the same task. My attempt to “make ·followers [disciples] of all ·people in the world [the nations]” (Matthew 28:19, EXB) was greatly enhanced given I was instructed to personally touch as many conference attendees as possible and they in turn would touch as many as they could. When the second exercise in evangelism was gauged, to everyone’s amazement, duplication had become multiplication (much like the Acts account, chapter 6:1, 7)! Hence, in Paul’s exhortation to young Timothy, two if not three generations are deeply impacted by one man’s message. First, Paul had been transformed by the gospel message he now instructs Timothy (second generation) to pass on to others (third). The “others” in the verse may well have been men older or younger than Timothy and likewise

Clinging to the Roots t is often said that, "April showers bring May flowers"; however, when you are in the midst of a long span of precipitation, it is hard to envision the splendor of flowers in bloom. Much like our spiritual walk, the valleys, and the showers they often bring, leave us feeling hopeless, bitter, desperate, and unable to see the victory (the blooming) in our situation. We can cling to God's promise in 1 Peter 5:10 which says, “And after you
have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.” As a young girl, I was fortunate to have a grandfather that could literally plant and grow anything. Some of the many things that he grew were pears, apples, cherries, plums, an over-abundance of vegetables, roses, and a large variety of other flowers. One of my favorite flowers was the sunflower. Some characteristics of the sunflower is that it has deep roots, can grow to over 8 feet tall, the floral head can expand up to 3-11 inches wide and it has the ability to orient itself toward the sun and can withstand storms.

When our marriages are failing, our children are astray, addiction has taken over, depression has set in, fear and anxiety cripple us, let us learn from the sunflower on how to withstand the storm. • Deep roots. Colossians 2:7 says, “Let your roots grow down into him.” Our roots can be extended and established through submission to him through prayer and digging in his word. 1 Chronicles tells us to “seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually.” Our suffering can increase our faith, strengthen our relationship with God, develop our testimony, and prepare us to reach out to others. • Grows tall. 1 Corinthians 16:13 says, “Be on your guard; stand tall in the faith; be courageous; be strong.” When you are pursuing a godly life and an intimate relationship with Jesus, your stature is made firm. Growing tall also helps us to rise above our shortcomings and trials that life throws us. Continuous growth and seeking of God's will is what helps us to determine our calling. • Wide blooms Matthew 19 tells us to “go and make disciples.” We are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus and this means loving thy neighbor as thyself (Matthew 22:3739). Being a mom to these two blessings from God has filled my heart with an overwhelming sense of thankfulness for the gift of being their mom! Being a mom is a 24 hour adventure that can be smooth sailing one second and a rollercoaster ride of emotions the next. As my boys grew into teenagers and entered the 'not so sweet' phase of life, it became a necessity to sleep with one eye open, always on the edge of worry. To constantly feel guilty about something. consequences for wrong choices. However, through it all I had to remember and rely on the promise from the Lord in my prayer time. Philippians 1:6 says, “He who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ.” I kept this scripture in my heart and written down, and every time I would find myself in stress about what they might be doing, the Lord would bring this scripture back to my mind. One night when I felt so upset and mad at them I finally just said "Lord, I hate them right now.” Whew. The Lord knew I didn't really hate them; I was just so frustrated by their choices. When I said that, it was like a great weight lifted off of my shoulders. He already knew exactly what I was thinking and it gave me 'rest' to let it out and still know that I could keep on relying on that promise He had given me! It's okay to not be perfect. He knows you! Being a mom means I have the task of giving them an understanding of what faith, love, loyalty, integrity, family, and commitment means. Through the teenage years I gave them unconditional love. I pray they survived my weaknesses and mistakes and realize I love them more than anything! My greatest achievement has been being their mom and knowing that the promise He gave to me is true, fulfilled, and everlasting. Love never fails!

It all Depends on Your Perspective o you remember when you were a child? The memories of your childhood home, a local park, or a favorite ice cream shop were larger than life. Then when you returned to reminisce as an adult, the reality of the actual size of the building or space set in and you realized that your memory deceived you. Or is it that as an adult you now see that your perspective has changed? Have you ever seen those incredibly close-up photos that appear like you might be looking through a low power microscope? You see some semblance of a
familiar item but you can’t quite determine what it is. Then you turn the page and see a standard size picture of the same item and you immediately recognize it. At that point, you realize that perspective is everything. If you have ever studied art you know that perspective is the art of drawing a three-dimensional looking object on a two-dimensional surface to give the right impression of the dimensions and position in relationship to one another. Having the right perspective changes the way we see and understand information. In the same way, perspective in viewing life circumstances is key to interpreting and responding to life in a Christ-like manner.

Consider Jonathan in 1 Samuel 14. The Israelites were cowering under the Philistines. Saul seemed to be unable to help himself, but Jonathan knew the heart of God. Jonathan set out to position himself to fight against the Philistines and bring about a great victory. He took his armor bearer and was determined that if God gave him the signal he and his armor bearer would prevail. Jonathan knew that God could use either one or many to save the Israelites and bring about a turning point for the nation of Israel. He didn’t look at the vast number in the Philistine army but rather said to his armor bearer, “The Lord has given them into the hands of Israel.” Before Jonathan had picked up his sword, he had already won the battle in his mind. He had the right perspective. Also consider David before he fought Goliath in 1 Samuel 17. He didn’t see his size as a roadblock, but rather viewed the Philistines’ taunting of the armies of the living God as an insult that God would not let go unpunished. He had the perspective of knowing the heart of God for Israel and that overshadowed any minor stumbling block, such as the enormity of Goliath as compared to David’s small stature. Having the right perspective in daily living is the difference between seeing things from our fleshly, sin-filled, near-sighted, impaired human viewpoint versus seeing things from the viewpoint of being a child of the death defying, omniscient, omnipotent, eternal, living God. When we seek after God to direct our steps, acknowledge him in all our ways, and purpose in our hearts to follow his guidance, then we have the right perspective.

with Caramelized Onion & Bruschetta Topping Crust 1 cup Quinoa Soaked overnight 4 cloves of garlic chopped 2 tsp salt ½ tsp baking powder 1 to 1 ½ cup water Olive oil Heat oven to 450 degrees. Once heated, add 2 tbsp olive oil in a large cast iron skillet and preheat in oven for 10 minutes. Blend all ingredients in a food processor until it has a pancake batter consistency. Take the skillet out and spread the batter evenly into the pan and cook for 10 minutes. Flip it and cook for an additional 5 minutes.

Bruschetta Topping 1 tsp pepper 4 cloves garlic chopped ½ pint cherry tomatoes quartered ½ cup chopped fresh basil
Slice the onions and sauté on medium-high heat with olive oil, salt, and two cloves of chopped garlic. Cook until completely caramelized. Combine the quartered tomatoes, 2 additional cloves of garlic, and chopped basil; season with salt and pepper. Combine the balsamic vinegar and sugar together in a pan and reduce on medium-high heat until a syrup consistency. Assemble the pizza. Spread caramelized onions on crust. Top with bruschetta mixture and drizzle the balsamic reduction on top.

It’s not that I’ve run away from that paradise, I just forgot. God created me from dust and breathed His breath into my lungs. I’m being drawn back to the garden where I was first created. This is where I found my first love. It was so beautiful. I’m talking about the time before God created a helpmate. I’m telling you about the beginning. I walked and talked with God. There was not a time I didn’t smell His fragrance. Surrounding peace and overflowing joy I was in. It was in my very DNA. His presence and fire was flowing through my veins. We danced together in the moonlight and sang in unison at the break of dawn. I was lovesick. The garden was a perfect, pure, and spotless place. It’s where He created me to dwell with Him forever. The garden is not a story in my Bible. It’s my beginning and my destiny. It’s where I became a living being. It was then when He gave me my identity as “Beloved”. I had a conversation with a deceitful snake who led me to believe lies about myself. Because of shame, I was drawn out of the garden into a world of evil, not knowing how to get back home because I was so overwhelmed by lies. I forgot the way, and soon forgot about the garden in which I once dwelled. God came out searching for me,

I stepped into a cycle of brokenness that I have been trying to get out of since I strayed away from the garden. I heard someone once say, “When we worship, we remember, return, and reconnect.” I remember walking in the garden and staying so close to Him and Him to me. I think that His original intent was for us to be so near and it be so constant. My goal is to no longer grow up, but to get little again. I’m beginning to remember and understand his original intent for me. It is to have no space between each other. Worship centers us back to our first love! When I start to worship, I start to remember how greatly I am loved and that there was never supposed to be separation. Through worship, I remember, and though remembrance, I return, and through my return, I reconnect to God. Worship! Get caught up in it. It’s so important because it brings you back to the garden, and to the God who has been missing you.
