Watch your favorite NFL celebrities at Ron Jaworski’s 28th Celebrity Golf Challenge – May 20th and 21st Enough can’t be said about the charitable work of Ron Jaworski and the Jaws Youth Playbook. Among the many local fundraising activities they host, Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City will return as lead sponsor for the upcoming 28th annual Ron Jaworski Celebrity Golf Challenge. Ron Jaworski, the former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, ESPN football analyst, and longtime community philanthropist and fundraiser is very involved with his foundation, the Jaws Youth Playbook Fund. They host many events annually, including a 5K in Stone Harbor, cigar parties, celebrity softball games and sports equipment drive. The Celebrity Golf Challenge raises nearly $200,000 each year through its various sponsorships. In 2012, proceeds from the event will go to the newly formed JAWS YOUTH PLAYBOOK (JYP). Formerly known as the Jaws Youth Fund, the JYP defines its mission as supporting programs which “improve the overall health and wellness of at-risk youth, primarily in the Greater Philadelphia Region.” “We know that youth who are overweight or obese are more likely to have health risk factors associated to cardiovascular disease such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and type 11 diabetes,” said Jaworski. “In contrast, the benefits to good health translate to the classroom where studies show that fit students are less likely to have disciplinary problems and perform better on standardized tests.” This year’s event will include a Pairing’s Party at Harrah’s Atlantic City on
Sunday night, May 20th, and a Kickoff Celebrity-Am, Closing Drive CelebrityAm at the Atlantic City Country Club on May 21,th sponsored by JPC Group. That afternoon there will also be a VIP Golf Clinic at 2pm at the Atlantic City Country Club. The festivities at the Atlantic City Country Club are always fun to watch. Jaworski gathers a great collection of current and retired NFL players, coaches and broadcast personalities. Past participants have included Michael Vick, Brian Hoyer, Joe Pisarcik, Joe Flacco, Joe Theisman, Herm Edwards and Dick Vermeil. Expect to see well-known celebrities play again this year. The Jaws Youth Fund (JYF) had delivered well over $3 million in 11 years to more than 100 non-profit organizations providing varied services to children ranging from the ages of 7-18. The JYF is constantly looking for new avenues to raise funds. Preceding the Atlantic League AllStar Game on July 11th at Campbell’s Field, and in conjunction with Ron Jaworski’s Jaws Youth Playbook and the Kisses for Kyle Foundation, Jaworski will team up against a team formed by former Philadelphia Phillies Manager and broadcaster Larry Bowa, to host a celebrity softball game prior to the regular game. First Annual R.A. Schiavone Memorial Cup Slated for June 20-21 at Forsgate Country Club
Forsgate Country Club, the award winning, central New Jersey private golf club that is owned and operated by RDC Golf Group, will host the first annual R.A. Schiavone Memorial Cup, June 20-21, 2012. This two-day pro-senior scratch tournament, to be staged on Forsgate’s renowned 6,844-yard, par-71 Banks Course, is sanctioned by both the New Jersey section of the PGA and the New Jersey State Golf Association. The Cup is named in honor of longtime Garden State golf course owner/investor Ronald A. Schiavone who was recently honored posthumously with the National Golf Course Owners Association Award of Merit for his significant longterm contribution to the game of golf. He is also the father of RDC President Christopher Schiavone. “This event honors a man who contributed to golf in New Jersey, even though he was not a golfer himself. As founder of the state’s largest country club—the 54-hole Fiddler’s Elbow—and primary owner of Forsgate Country Club for more than a decade, Ron Schiavone provided the entrepreneurial vision that helped elevate the quality of the game in the Garden State.” said Christopher Schiavone. A fan of the individual amateur competitor, my father recognized that the over-50 golfer was a big contributor to his business, and he would be pleased with an event that focused on that group of golfers,” added Schiavone. The first day with include senior (50+)scratch amateurs playing with a PGA Professional, and the second day will be solely for the amateurs.The entry fee for this event is $295 (includes both two-person team competition and individual senior player event Tuesday) and the field is limited to 60 teams.
