WAIKATO GOLF TRAIL NEWMONT QUARTZ 4 DAY The 6th annual Newmont Quartz 4 day tournament hosted by Waihi Golf Club was held on the 2nd and 5th of January. The tournament attracted a field of 115 players, both men and women, from 37 clubs throughout New Zealand, along with 2 players from Australian clubs. The handicaps ranged from 0.5 upwards with one third of the field having handicaps lower than 10. The weather conditions were excellent for all but the last 2 hours of play on the Sunday, and as with previous year’s, the course was presented in an immaculate and challenging condition. The eventual stableford winner over the 4 days with a total score of 160 points was James McHardy. The runner-up was Mark Green with 156 points. Both players are from the Waihi Golf Club. The gross winner was Lincoln Drent,

also from the Waihi club, with four consistent rounds of 76, for a total of 296. The runner-up was Rob Noffke from the Waitakere Golf Club in Auckland with a total of 298. The teams event went to ‘gaff’ which comprised of Lincoln Drent, Jason Baldwin, Mark Green & Andy Roche, all members of the Waihi Golf Club, where 3 out of the 4 best scores count each day and accumulate until day 4. The Waihi Golf Club wish to thank their sponsors Newmont Waihi Gold for their continuing and generous support. Next years tournament has been set down for Thursday the 8th – Sunday the 11th of January 2015 and will be advertised in late August 2014.

BAY OF PLENTY GOLF TRAIL EVES 5 COURSE CLASSIC The 2014 Eves 5 Course Golf Classic was played in the Western Bay of Plenty from 27 – 31 January. This is a 90 Hole Stableford Tournament for amateur players is in its 19th year and with 412 confirmed entries, was the most successful in recent years. The Eves 5 Course Classic owes much of its outstanding reputation to the expertise of the five host clubs in running a joint venture to such a high standard, and also to the commitment of principle sponsor Eves Realty, whose long association with the tournament has contributed significantly to the stature of the event in the golfing calendar.
