In a deal that marks a pivotal moment for two Texas-based companies, DallasNews Corporation has sold its iconic Plano printing facility for $43.5 million, paving the way for a new chapter in American manufacturing. The buyer? Denago EV, an emerging force in the electric vehicle industry, specializing in low-speed vehicles (LSVs) and next-generation golf carts.
The facility—a sprawling 29-acre property with nearly 700,000 square feet of space—will now serve as Denago EV’s Southern U.S. production and manufacturing hub, bringing new life to a building that once printed The Dallas Morning News, Texas' oldest and most storied daily newspaper.
“We’re honored to build the future of Denago EV from such a historic and meaningful facility,” Zoe Wittrock,a Deango EV Team Member said in a statement. “This is more than a building—it’s a symbol of our commitment to U.S. manufacturing and the Dallas-Fort Worth community.”
With this acquisition, Denago’s total factory footprint in the DFW area surpasses 1 million square feet, signaling not just growth, but ambition.
For DallasNews Corporation (Nasdaq: DALN), the sale represents a strategic win. The company, which announced the transaction back in December 2024, has now closed the deal as part of its broader plan to consolidate operations into a more efficient, leased facility in Carrollton, Texas.
CEO Grant Moise called it an “important milestone” in the company’s Return to Growth Plan, noting that part of the proceeds will be used to fully fund the company's pension liabilities—a move aimed at securing retirement benefits for
more than 1,300 current and former employees.
“This is not just a real estate deal—it’s a financial and cultural turning point,” Moise said. “We’re delivering certainty to our people while streamlining for the future.”
For Denago EV, this acquisition comes amid whispers of major growth and potential new deals. While the company has stayed mum on specifics due to public company regulations, leadership hinted at several acquisitions in the works—one of which may close in the coming weeks and could enable domestic manufacturing of over 100,000 chassis per year. The company also acknowledged the competitive pressure from industry stalwarts like Club Car and E-Z-GO, emphasizing its commitment to continuous innovation, product quality, and dealer growth.
“We’re in this for the long haul,” the company stated. “This facility is more than just bricks and beams—it’s a statement. We’re putting our money where our mouth is.”
With momentum building, Denago’s expansion underscores a broader trend: a resurgence in U.S.-based manufacturing, particularly in the electric vehicle space. And with 1 million square feet now under their belt—and more reportedly on the horizon—Denago is positioning itself not just as a player, but as a leader in the EV revolution.
The Plano property may have printed its last newspaper, but its next chapter promises to be just as impactful.
• Premium booth space in a single-venue format
• Strategic brand visibility through customized signage packages
• Year-round promotion through event digital channels
• Networking opportunities at special events
The industry's first dedicated event brings together dealers, manufacturers, and consumers under one roof for education, networking, and a showcase of the latest innovations.
In a significant milestone for the golf cart industry, the inaugural Golf Carting Expo & Dealer Summit is set to take place October 22-25, 2025, in Rock Hill, South Carolina. This groundbreaking three-day event represents the first time our industry has had a dedicated gathering focused exclusively on golf carts, low-speed vehicles, and the rapidly evolving marketplace that surrounds them.
For years, golf cart professionals have participated in broader powersports or golf industry events where our unique segment was just one small part of a larger focus. The Golf Carting Expo changes that paradigm by creating a specialized environment where everything—from education sessions to networking opportunities— is tailored specifically to the golf cart community.
"This is exactly what our industry has needed," says Matt White, event co-chair and Editor of Golf Carting Magazine. "We've designed this event to bring maximum value to dealers looking to grow their businesses, manufacturers seeking qualified dealer connections, and consumers excited to see the latest innovations all in one place."

Dealers will also benefit from exclusive networking events, including a VIP rooftop dinner party on Wednesday evening and a welcome party at a local brewery on Thursday, creating valuable opportunities to connect with peers and suppliers in a relaxed setting.

When Joe Morford first spotted this Terra Toys cart for sale in Southern California, most people would have seen a broken-down relic with cracked welds, broken bushings, and a blown engine. Joe, however, saw possibility. So much possibility, in fact, that he traded a fully customized golf cart he'd just completed for what was essentially the shell of this one—a decision that left the seller thinking he'd lost his mind.
"I found it pop up in Southern California, and I asked the dude, 'Hey, would you trade me my fully built cart for the shell of what this was at the time?'" Joe explains. "I'm sure he thought I was crazy."
But there was a method to the madness. And, once he started digging into it, Joe recognized something special—this wasn't just any Terra Toys cart; it appeared to have belonged to Arturo, the founder of Terra Toys himself. For the uninitiated,
Terra Toys was an Arizona-based company that specialized in long-travel suspension golf carts for sand dunes before sideby-sides became popular. They essentially created miniaturized sand rails disguised as golf carts, and their innovative designs have made them collector's items today.
"When I ended up picking it up, I saw the insignias, the Terra Toys. This was really my first intro to what a Terra Toys cart was," Joe recalls. "I ended up seeing that this gentleman named Arturo built these carts out in Tucson, Arizona. And then my title also said Arturo and his last name on there. So I knew it was his cart."
After acquiring the cart, Joe let it sit for two years while he prepared mentally and logistically for the monumental task ahead. The build would require extensive custom fabrication, engineering, and an archaeological expedition through the world of powersports parts to identify and replace components from extinct vehicles.
"You could imagine when I was starting to pull things apart, I was like, 'OK, well, where am I going to find this part?'"
Joe says. "So I actually had to do some custom 3D printing at my uncle's shop in California just to assemble some of this stuff because we couldn't even find bushings that matched. We were machining bushings and 3D printing stuff. It's definitely a labor of love."
With help from his father and his uncle (who owns a machine manufacturing company), Joe tackled the build in an intense 28-day sprint. The result is what he jokingly refers to as a "Frankenstein," but one that's been assembled with surgical precision rather than haphazard stitching.
The foundation of this build is an impressive suspension system that would make most UTVs jealous. Featuring full A-arm suspension up front with an MP front end originally designed for Baja Bugs, the cart rides on Fox coilovers all around. And these aren't just any shocks—they were sourced from a Kawasaki Teryx side-by-side for extra robustness.
"It's an MP original Baja Bug front end, so it's a little bit more stout," Joe explains. "The shocks are off of a Kawasaki Teryx, so a side-by-side, a little bit more robust than you would
need."
The front brakes? Those are from a Yamaha Raptor 700 quad. The steering utilizes a VW steering box and knuckle instead of the stock EZGO components, providing improved handling to match the enhanced suspension.
What really sets this build apart, though, is the rear suspension. Terra Toys was known for deleting the rear leaf spring and implementing a 4-way coil-over suspension instead, which is exactly what Joe has preserved and enhanced.
"That's part of Terra Toys' key suspension— they delete this rear leaf and go with coil-overs all around," Joe says. "You get rid of all of that engine chatter for the people who are trying to get that bigger engine in there. Doing something like this just really ties the rear end together and makes it super stout."
cutouts for airflow, creating what Joe calls "the jewelry box of the engine compartment."
"I wanted everything to kind of draw you into the next thing," he says. "I wanted you to see the stereo, and then you go deep in the stereo, but then you notice the switches and the carbon fiber plate behind it. I just wanted everything to kind of pull you into the next thing."
"I'm a Ford guy, and unfortunately I can't afford a brand new Bronco Raptor, so I said, 'Hey, let me kind of build my own scaled-down version of it,'"
Speaking of bigger engines, Joe replaced the blown original with a Harbor Freight Predator 670 22-horsepower V-twin engine, enhanced with performance upgrades including an improved carburetor and custom oil catch can. This powerplant, coupled with high-speed gears, allows the cart to reach speeds of up to 45 mph—important for Arizona's golf cart laws.
"The rules in Arizona are, as long as you can drive as fast as the posted speed limit, then you're good to go," Joe explains.
The clean installation is a point of pride for Joe, who describes himself as "a big Dave Kindig fan." The engine sits beneath a modified EZGO electric battery tray with strategic
This attention to detail extends throughout the cart. The color scheme—Ford's "Area 51 Blue" with "Illusion Orange" accents—gives the cart a rescue vehicle theme, a nod to the fullsize Ford Bronco Raptor that Joe admires but can't quite justify purchasing.
"I'm a Ford guy, and unfortunately I can't afford a brand new Bronco Raptor, so I said, 'Hey, let me kind of build my own scaled-down version of it,'" he laughs.
The finishing details on this build reveal Joe's meticulous approach. MODZ FS1 custom seats with headrests provide comfort, while a Grant racing steering wheel adds a sporty touch. A Clarion sound system with Kicker speakers and a hideaway subwoofer ensures that, as Joe puts it, there's "a little bit of sound there."
Even the electrical system shows extraordinary consideration. Every wire connection uses a Molex connector for easy disconnection and future upgrades.
The bed is perhaps the most distinctive feature of the Terra Toys design, providing utility without the bulk of a traditional golf cart cargo bed. "You don't have that big bulky bed like a
workhorse, but you do get this utility space that you can kind of just throw some stuff in the back," Joe says.
As our conversation wraps up, it's clear this isn't just a vehicle to Joe—it's a passion project that preserves a piece of golf cart history while pushing the boundaries of what these vehicles can be. From the custom powder coating to the carefully selected wheels and tires (chosen specifically to be less aggressive for golf course use), every decision has been made with purpose.
What started as a discarded cart owned by the original Terra Toys founder has been transformed into a showstopper that draws attention wherever it goes—whether it's cruising
local streets or "rescuing" other golf carts by towing them with its custom hitch.
"Every nut and bolt is brand new," Joe says with pride. "Everything got a fresh coat of paint. I just really tried to bring this guy back to life."
Mission accomplished, Joe. Mission accomplished.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Joe Morford's Terra Toys EZGO TXT is a perfect example of the incredible creativity and engineering in today's custom golf cart scene. From its unique Terra Toys heritage to its impressive performance capabilities, this is the kind of build that reminds us why we love this hobby—it's about imagination, craftsmanship, and the joy of bringing ambitious visions to life, one custom part at a time.

Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. has successfully launched its first-ever electric four-wheeled vehicle, the NAV® 4e, which arrived at dealerships in March 2025. This Personal Transportation Vehicle (PTV) marks Kawasaki's entry into the growing electric golf cart and neighborhood vehicle segment.
The NAV 4e lineup includes three distinct models: the standard NAV 4e ($12,999), the NAV 4e LE ($15,999), and the premium NAV 4e Limited ($19,999). Each model offers progressive features and battery options to suit different customer needs.
"You will no longer be going to your neighbors, or the local pickleball court, you will NAV to your desired location,"
Kawasaki stated during the launch, emphasizing the lifestylefocused marketing approach for the new vehicle.
All models feature a rear-mounted AC motor producing a maximum of 10.7 kW of power with a rated output of 4.0 kW, delivering a top speed of 19 mph. The standard NAV 4e comes equipped with lead-acid batteries providing a range of up to 17.5 miles, while the LE and Limited models include lithiumion batteries extending the range to 40 miles.
The NAV 4e has been designed with comfort and practicality in mind, featuring a steel frame inspired by Kawasaki's side-by-side chassis designs. With 7.3 inches of ground clearance and 14-inch wheels paired with 23-inch
off-road style tires, the vehicle offers a lifted appearance and improved capability on uneven terrain.
One notable innovation is the industry-first fold-flat rear seat for four-forward PTV models, which creates a flat cargo area with 150 lb. capacity when folded. Other practical features include multiple storage compartments, USB charging ports, and a 2-inch rear hitch receiver with 500 lb. towing capacity.
The flagship NAV 4e Limited model includes premium features such as a 7-inch full-color TFT display compatible with mobile operating systems, four roof-mounted speakers, a flip-
down windshield, premium seating, and interior floor lighting.
All models come with a 2-year limited warranty, with battery warranty coverage of 24 months for lead-acid models and 72 months for lithium-ion batteries.

Welcome to our new monthly feature exploring America's most golf cart-friendly communities. For our inaugural edition, we're visiting The Villages, Florida - the undisputed golf cart capital of America.
When Michigan businessman Harold Schwartz began developing a mobile home park in Central Florida in the early 1970s, few could have imagined it would evolve into America's largest active adult community. What started as Orange Blossom Gardens with just 400 homes has blossomed into a sprawling paradise spanning three counties with over 150,000 residents.
GOLF CART PARADISE BY THE NUMBERS
The Villages boasts some impressive statistics:
• More than 85,000 golf carts (nearly one for every two residents)
• Over 100 miles of dedicated golf cart paths
• 54 golf courses
• 3 town centers with nightly entertainment
• 12 golf cart bridges and tunnels crossing major roadways
As noted in a recent episode of Golf Cart Chronicles, a new YouTube miniseries from GolfCartingTV, many residents have found that "the golf cart isn't just for golf. It's become their primary vehicle. They take it shopping, to restaurants, to concerts in the square - everything."
BEYOND BASIC TRANSPORTATION
These aren't ordinary golf carts. Villagers have transformed their vehicles into expressions of their personalities, from custom-painted bodies honoring military service to luxury models with leather seats and premium sound systems.
"What makes this community unique isn't just the golf carts themselves," I observed during my visit for Golf Cart Chronicles. "It's how they've shaped the community. These vehicles have evolved far beyond basic transportation into custom expressions of their
owners' personalities."
Popular styles include classic car replicas, luxury models with woodgrain dashboards, and themed designs featuring everything from sports teams to tropical paradises.
The genius of The Villages' design is how it prioritizes socialization through its extensive network of golf cart paths connecting neighborhoods to town centers, recreation facilities, grocery stores, and medical offices.
The three town centers - Spanish Springs, Brownwood, and Sumter Landing - serve as social hubs, each with its own architectural theme hosting free nightly entertainment. On any given evening, hundreds of golf carts fill the designated parking areas as residents gather to dance, dine, and socialize.
During my time filming in The Villages, I was struck by how the golf cart lifestyle has transformed daily routines. Many residents start their day with recreation activities, attend social clubs in the afternoon, and finish with evening entertainment at the town squares - all without ever starting their car.
While golf is certainly a major attraction with 54 courses (including 40 executive courses that are free for residents), The Villages offers over 3,000 clubs and activities. From pickleball to swimming, tennis, and even polo matches, there's something for every interest - all accessible by golf cart.
The golf cart lifestyle isn't just fun - it's economical. Many Villagers report significant savings from reducing their reliance on traditional vehicles, with lower fuel costs, reduced maintenance expenses, and insurance plans often under $100 annually.
Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of The Villages isn't the infrastructure itself, but how golf carts have shaped social interactions. The open-air, slower pace of golf cart travel encourages residents to wave at neighbors, stop for impromptu conversations, and join friends spontaneously for dinner or entertainment.
Even as The Villages continues to grow southward with new neighborhoods, the commitment to golf cart accessibility remains at the forefront of planning, continuing the vision of founder Harold Schwartz and his son Gary Morse.
As I concluded in my Golf Cart Chronicles segment: "In The Villages, they're not just driving golf carts - they're
driving the future of community living."
1. Location: Central Florida, approximately 45 miles northwest of Orlando

Q: My electric golf cart's lights and accessories are flickering or not working at all. What seems to be the problem?
A: Flickering or non-functioning lights and accessories often indicate electrical system problems. Here's a breakdown:
Loose or Corroded Connections:
This is a very common issue. Vibration and exposure to the elements can loosen connections or cause corrosion, disrupting the flow of electricity.
Troubleshooting:
• Carefully inspect all wiring connections, especially at the battery terminals, light fixtures, and accessory connections.
• Clean any corroded terminals with a wire brush and a baking soda/water solution.
• Ensure all connections are tight and secure.
Faulty Wiring:
Damaged or frayed wires can cause intermittent or complete electrical failures.
Troubleshooting:
• Visually inspect all wiring for signs of damage.
• Use a multimeter to test for continuity and voltage in the wiring circuits.
• Replace any damaged wires.
Issues with the 12-Volt System:
• If the cart uses a separate 12 volt battery check the charge state.
• Check the voltage regulator, or voltage reducer, that converts the main battery pack voltage to 12 volts.
• Check the fuse box for blown fuses.
Grounding Problems:
• Ensure all ground connections are clean and secure.
• Test ground continuity with a multimeter.
• When working with electrical systems, always disconnect the battery pack before performing any repairs.
Q: My electric golf cart's motor is cutting out intermittently. What electrical components could be causing this, and how can I test them?
A: Intermittent motor cutouts can be caused by several electrical issues:
Faulty Speed Controller:
The speed controller regulates the power flow to the motor. A malfunctioning controller can cause the motor to cut out.
Worn motor brushes or loose motor connections can cause intermittent power loss. Inspect the motor connections for looseness or corrosion. Check all wiring for corroded or loose connections. If possible, inspect the motor brushes for wear.
Solenoid Issues:
The solenoid is an electrical switch that engages the motor. A faulty solenoid can cause the motor to cut out. Use a multimeter to test the solenoid's continuity and voltage across the large and small terminals. If there is no click the solenoid could be defective or the circuit going to the solenoid could have issues. Be sure to check for voltage, continuity and excessive resistance in the wires.
Q: How do I safely test the voltage of my golf cart's battery pack, and what readings should I expect for a healthy battery system?
A: Locate the battery pack and identify the positive and negative terminals. Set the multimeter to the DC voltage setting, ensuring the range is higher than the battery pack's voltage. Carefully touch the red (positive) multimeter lead to the first positive terminal and the black (negative) lead to the last negative terminal. The expected voltage will vary depending on the golf cart's battery system (e.g., 36 volts, 48 volts).
A fully charged 48-volt system should read approximately 50.9 volts, and a 36-volt system should read approximately 38.2 volts.
Readings significantly lower than these indicate that the batteries may be discharged or damaged. Individual battery voltage testing is also very important. Readings below the rated voltage of the battery could have irreversibly damaged it or at the very least cut the storage capacity quite a bit shorter.
