PRECIOUS METALS REFINING PROCESS
STEP 1. BEFORE WEIGHT The first step of our refining process involves weighing in jewelry and scrap bars. This step allows us to distinguish between what is alloy or magnetic. The recorded weight helps us to analyze how much of a difference in loss of weight can occur. These are examples of weight imbalances. Stones, Soldering, Joints, Fillers, Low-Karat below 15% and Plated.
STEP 2. MELTING Here the gold/silver is melted in the induction heating generator to melt the gold/silver into liquid. Borax powder is added to ensure better results and higher gold/silver yield. During the process, stirring/mixing of the liquid ensures the stability of the karat purity, producing a homogeneous bar.
STEP 4. XRF ASSAY The scrap gold bar’s surface is then filed or scratched to be sampled and tested under our X-ray fluorescence machine ( X-Strata and Spectro-Midex ). This laser technology will accurately display all alloy contents in percentages within 90 seconds. We also offer fire assay a second assay option.
STEP 3. AFTER WEIGHT The scrap gold bar/silver is weighed after to indicate the exact loss of weight from the melt. This will be the actual weight of gold/silver content. As a note, there will always be a melt loss due to any stones or diamonds that is attached to jewelry. Stones will not melt. We kindly advice to remove any stones that you can as this will guarantee accurate results when determining the actual melt loss difference.

REFINING STANDARDS The testing, melting and refining of scrap metal will result in a decrease of gross weight, due to the high temperatures, impurities, certain alloys and can be eliminated. A decrease in weight will also occur once all gemstones, enamel, embedded metals and other misc. items are removed and or retained in borax. We are not responsible for any melt lost.
