Newsletter December 2018

CEO FOREWORD This year has taught me that with a great team, extraordinary vision and 1 goal in mind, anything and everything we aspire can be achieved. We celebrated the birthdays of 4 of our Bingo properties in this quarter; namely, Kolonnade – 20, Potchefstroom – 5, Bushbuckridge – 1 and Bela Bela – 1, which made me look forward to celebrating even more existing and upcoming openings in 2019. In the words of the late Nelson Mandela: “It always seems impossible, until it’s done,” and indeed, the prospect of opening a new property tends to seem impossible, but when we work together, we always achieve more than we anticipated. This was evident with the opening of our Chatsworth property which will soon be followed by Phoenix, beginning of December this year.

Mergan Naidoo

We anticipate great growth in 2019, not only relating to our branches but staff members also improving their skills, with the bursary programme that has been implemented. I encourage everyone who has been a staff member for over a year to take advantage of this golden opportunity, to enhance their skills and capabilities.

I want to thank you all again for your support, consistency and meticulousness throughout 2018. I wish you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! May you all return rejuvenated, inspired and ready to make 2019 a year where we conquer all.

Goldrush Group CEO

Mergan Naidoo

EXECUTIVE DESK Allan Scott – The Pioneered Vanguard Hailing from Yorkshire - United Kingdom, Mr Scott has been part of the Goldrush family (previously Viva Bingo) from its inception over 21 years ago and is grateful to his mentor Mr Hipkin, for offering him the opportunity to be part of the start-up and this roller coaster ride which now sees Goldrush has the number 1 alternative gambling company in Africa. He feels fortunate to be part of a diverse Board of Directors and senior management which boasts a wide variety of skill sets within the gambling industry, which enables them to work well together.

Allan Scott

One of his priorities as a key figure within the company is making impactful decisions which are equally benefitting to employees and the company. “I am so proud of everything we have achieved as a Group, which has led us to where we are today. We are now a big team and a major player in the industry and I am thankful to everyone who contributes to the vision of growing the Goldrush brand.” One of the things he values most is seeing new employees from previously disadvantaged backgrounds grow and better themselves through hard work, diligence and perseverance.

When Mr Scott has time to relax, he tries to play and master golf, enjoys watching cricket and spending time relaxing with family and friends. His future aspirations are to keep Goldrush as the no 1 alternate gambling company in Africa and from a personal perspective to spend more time with his five lovely grandchildren in the UK. He believes in living today, not yesterday, nor tomorrow and encourages us all to always work hard, always be honest and to never give up on our aspirations.

A STANDING OVATION TO THE GOLDEN PIONEERS Perseverance, patience, loyalty, honesty and diligence are some of the words to describe the staff members who have served the Goldrush Group for more than 10 years. They deserve nothing but the highest honour of contributing the best years of their lives, to the growth, consistency and world-class gaming Goldrush offers to its customers.

YEARS+ 20 Years

Sophie Motau

Mam’Sophie joined the Goldrush family when it was still based in North Park and took a leap of faith by asking Mr Hipkin and Daphney for a job. At the time she was a waitress at MAXI’S restaurant – Kolonnade. Currently based at Morula, she is grateful for the opportunity of having been able to upskill herself through the various positions and branches she has worked in, over the years. “I encourage everyone to take every opportunity they are offered and to make the most of it, as it will be to their benefit inevitably.”

12 Years

Annastecia Mametja

In the years Annastecia has been part of the Goldrush family, she has definitely become a jack of all trades. Having worked in various positions and branches, she will always be grateful to the Ermelo team which polished her into the kind manager she currently is, at Newmarket. Over the years she’s appreciated the different people she has met and being in different departments, as this has contributed to her skills development and level of patience she has towards customers and employees. “I’ve learnt to be a team player which has enhanced my problem-solving skills, which is what really excites me about my job.”

11 Years

Sizakele Radebe

Sizakele truly lives up to her name; which loosely means ‘Helped by God.’ She has paid it forward by training and upskilling those that she has worked with, throughout her years of being part of the Goldrush family. Her greatest achievement was being promoted to Senior Duty Manager, where she saw her resilience and diligence finally paying off. She has trained some of our current General and Operation’s Managers and prides herself with the immense contribution she’s made, which enables her to perform exceptionally well in her position at Morula. “I am proud of everything I have achieved and it’s all thanks to the opportunities Goldrush has offered me.”

11 Years

Christina Bapela

Having only occupied 1 position in the Goldrush family, Mam’Christina has never been more content, as she believes it has groomed her into our very own Jamie Oliver. Her professionalism and eagerness to always learn something new are some of the intrapersonal skills that have kept her loyal to the company. She believes every change that has been implemented has increased her knowledge, hence she has excelled tremendously over the years. “My greatest strengths in life have always been my patience and willingness to learn, thus I ascertain such great culinary skills.”

11Years

Lydia Moyo

4

Punctuality, honesty and openness are the key characteristics Lydia has upheld ever since she joined the Goldrush family at Mall@Reds, which have led to her successful tenure. Having been upskilled in various positions, she believes these skills will continue to groom her for other positions, she can greatly contribute in. She’s passionate about customer service and finds it fulfilling when a customer leaves the branch ecstatic because of her service. “My service to Goldrush has not only benefited me but my family as well, as it has given me the opportunity to give my family a better tomorrow.”

A STANDING OVATION TO THE GOLDEN PIONEERS 11 Years

Caroline Nkuna

Since joining the Goldrush family, Caroline has always worked smart which has led to her pleasant tenure with the company. She really values the period she spent working with Shaun as she believes expanded her knowledge regarding the gambling and entertainment industry, which has led to her being one of Kolonnade’s treasured staff members. She enjoys working for the company and encourages everyone to always be professional in their working environment. “Always remember why you are at work, the way you carry yourself professionally will teach people to respect you.”

10 Years

Elsie Modau

Mam’Elsie is the crème de la crème of the cleanliness in all our Gauteng branches. Her obsession with cleaning led her to teaching one of our directors how its really done, which resulted in her being promoted to head cleaner. She prides herself with cleanliness as it’s definitely next to godliness and is thankful for the recognition the company has given her. To some, her form of work may not be gratifying but it has taught her that no job is to menial, as long as you take pride in what you have been employed to do. “The acknowledgement and appreciation the company has shown me over the years is truly amazing, I feel blessed to be part of the family.”

10 Years

Angelina Dhlamini

Her versatility and great charisma are what have made her such a great asset and staff member to the Vaal branch, which is evident in her work ethic. Thandi really enjoys working with her General Manager and says because of the support she receives from the company, she is able to achieve every task given to her. The one thing she holds dear to her is the love and support she constantly receives from her family and it always inspires her to achieve more. “The one thing we all aren’t guaranteed in life is time, so always show appreciation to your loved ones.”

10 Years

Joyce Majwana

Joyce wakes up daily feeling thankful to be part of the Goldrush family, which has empowered her to achieve so much. It’s not just about being able to provide for her family but knowing that there is stability in her working environment and that there are always opportunities of growth. Having worked in various positions over the years, she has learned in order for you to enjoy your job, one should avoid being stagnant, but seek for more information on how to improve what they already know. “The opportunities of growth I’ve been offered and I’ve taken, are the reason why I’m always eager to overcome any challenge that comes my way.”

10 Years

Salome Ralebipi

Ever since she joined the Goldrush family, Salome says the one thing she is truly thankful for is the wisdom Winston shared with her, when she had just started. The knowledge she gained has enabled her to become one of Morula’s most experienced and valuable staff members. The knowledge she has attained over the years in the respective departments she’s been in, has contributed to her proficiency, honesty and dependability. “With all the temptations we’re faced with in our industry, never give into them as they will be your downfall and loss of opportunity.”

“We will forever be grateful to you for your tremendous and immeasurable contribution to making us a world-class gambling and entertainment company.” – Goldrush Group Directors

NB: These are not the only staff members who have been working for Goldrush, for over 10 years. More staff members will be featured in the upcoming newsletters.

WORK RELATED 2019 NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS The new year is a perfect time to say “hello” to workplace happiness and “good-bye” to the bad habits that make you miserable and hinder your professional success. You’ll enjoy your time in the office a little more and improve your professional reputation, if you make it your New Year’s resolution to cut down on these 10 counterproductive behaviours: 1.

Excessive complaining:

Constant whining about insignificant things doesn’t serve a purpose and keeps you in a perpetually bad mood.

2.

Gossiping:

When a colleague tries to engage you in office drama, offer a one-word response, like “interesting” or “wow,” and follow it with, “I’ve got to go, see you later.”

3.

Heartlessly criticizing others:

Rather offer constructive criticism than being condescending.

4.

Beating yourself up:

So, you made a mistake or your brilliant idea actually turned out to be a bad one? No one is perfect. Own up to your mistake, take accountability and move on.

5.

Stagnating:

Learn something new or try something different.

6.

Isolating yourself:

Get out there and meet some new people inside and outside the company, who share your profession or work in your field.

7.

Blending into the woodwork:

Contribute a few comments on issues during meetings, you may be surprised at how seriously people take the input of someone who speaks sparingly.

8.

Blabbing unnecessarily:

Stating your mind is important, but don’t just talk to hear your own voice. Speak up only if you’re adding something of value to a discussion.

9.

Burning bridges:

Don’t assume that colleagues, customers and others who cross your professional path will forgive and forget when you do them wrong. Make it one of your resolutions to stay on good terms with your professional acquaintances.

10. Wasting time via social media

A particularly timely pet peeve of many bosses is the overuse and/or misuse of social media. This may not make you happier at work in the short term, but it will protect you professionally in the long term.
