Holds American Idol-Style Auditions for TV Host in Sacramento

Check List for Success 2009 By: La Ronda Bowen

Q. What can I do to keep my business strong during this recession? R. Successful small businesses have several things in common. See how yours measures up on these issues:

***********

La Ronda Bowen is an award-winning writer, speaker, and management consultant with over 20 years experience. She has served at the executive level in both public and private enterprises.

1. Technology – Are you using the best technology to increase your market reach, help customers find you, reduce costly errors, streamline your billing and accounting? 2. Financing - Do you have adequate access to bank financing. The federal stimulus package reduces fees and increases the loan guaranty provisions for SBA lending from 75% to 90%. Talk to your bank about a line of credit or other financing. 3. Necessity – Do you depend on your business for your primary *********** income? Studies show that business owners who rely on their business as their primary source of income generate significantly more dollars than those who don’t. Why? Commitment. 4. Employees/outsourcing – Do you get the help you need? You cannot do everything yourself. Hire someone to help with the tasks that you do not have to do. Look for creative ways to partner with others and share work and profits. Remember, 40% of something is better than 100% of nothing. 5. Age – Are you a young entrepreneur? Consider an association with someone in your field who is older (40+). Older business owners generally have increased contacts and relationships and can be an invaluable resource to a younger entrepreneur. Do you have a question you would like answered here? UP ALL NITE is holding an open American Idol-style audition to discover a fresh new face to host the new late-night entertainment and nightlife program. Auditions are from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 4 in front of Macy’s in Downtown Plaza, 547 L St., Sacramento, CA 95814. The audition is open to men and women, ages 21 to 35, with the right look, vibe, enthusiasm and confidence to co-host an entertainment show. UP ALL NITE is an exciting new late-night TV show debuting in Sacramento. The 30- minute show is described as entertaining and edgy and features guest celebrities and field reporters covering the hippest, most daring entertainment, music, nightclub, restaurant, sports, fashion and pop culture news in the Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto markets. UP ALL NITE is the brainchild of director-writer Deon Taylor, whose film catalogue includes the soon-to-be-released Chain Letter starring Nikki Reed (Twilight) and Keith David and The Hustle starring Charlie Murphy, Al Shearer and David Alan Grier. He says the show is like nothing Sacramento has ever had – and will wow viewers. Taylor also is the creative force behind Nite Tales, an ironic, eerie TV series in the style of Twilight Zone soon coming to cable and hosted by hip-hop legend Flavor Flav. “UP ALL NITE is sure to create a buzz among people who’ve always dreamed of being on TV and being part of something new and exciting,” Taylor said. A segment on the open auditions will air on the UP ALL NITE show. Everyone who auditions should show up at noon with two 15- to 20-second audition pieces showing your skills as a host and bring the following: 1) a headshot or photo with your name, phone and email on the back, 2) an entertainment resume OR a written paragraph and 3) sign a release at the event allowing UP ALL NITE to use the audition footage on the show, in promotions or for any other use. People interested in being the Movie Critic or Fashion Reporter should come to the audition dressed as the part. Contact diana@deontaylorenterprises.com for more information on those two positions only.

Law and Emotion

Too often clients think that their strong emotional reaction to a legal problem counts for something in the resolution. Almost always, it does not. The fact that a client is upset, or convinced that his or her position is absolute, or that the other person needs to be punished for some transgression means nothing in the legal framework. The outcome, by and large, will be dictated by the (proveable) facts and the applicable law. A good attorney points this out to the client at the start of the relationship, and doesn’t “buy in” to the client’s emotion. Despite conventional thinking on the part of some, the last thing a client should want is an attorney who is as emotionally invested in the matter as the client. Someone needs to think and act logically in order to minimize expense and maximize outcome, and that person has to be the attorney.
