In every village in the Norsjö district you can find a bakery cottage that is still in use. It was during the 19th century that the bakery cottages had their real breakthrough. Now it was possible to bake and prepare various foods in a simpler and more efficient way than before.

Mostly, it was thin bread or round flatbread (mjukkaka) that was baked, depending on what ingredients were available or family traditions.

There are about as many recipes for mjukkaka as there are families as most people developed their own, so if you do not have a family recipe, just try someone else's!

Etiquette in the bakery cottage

• Never baked before?

Ask the local association for help.

• Find out what applies when you are baking. Need your own firewood or tools?

• It sounds strange, but dress properly! Otherwise it is easy to get burned. Avoid synthetic materials.

• Drink lots of water!
