Head Coach Pete Peterson 16th Year • 220-94 (Overall) • 88-90 (LSC) Southwestern (KS) Javelina head coach Pete Peterson has been a staple on the South Texas basketball scene over the last 25plus years, first as an assistant coach at the University of Incarnate Word for 11 years and currently as a head coach with Texas A&M University-Kingsville since 1997. He has posted a won-loss record of 220-193 in 15 seasons. Peterson is the only coach in University history in any sport to amass 200-or-more career victories. He reached the milestone during the 2010-11 season on Nov. 20 with a 55-46 win over Texas Lutheran. Peterson had a school-record streak of six consecutive winning seasons from 2003-04 to 2008-09. Following the 2008-09 season in which he led the Javelinas to the NCAA Tournament, he was named the Small College Coach of the Year by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. This was the third time Peterson earned a Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year honor joining his two previous LSC South Division awards that he won following the 2003-04 and 2005-06 campaigns, respectively. The long-time coach has also led the Hoggies to a pair of NCAA Division I I To u r n a m e n t oach eterson appearances. Peterson shots. Chip Jones was named the LSC South Defensive Player of the Year. The team was 17-7 in games decided by 10 points or less and knocked off Tarleton State twice. The 2007-08 squad featured five players averaging between 9.0 and 11.5 points per game while Mulkey was named the LSC South Division Defensive Player of the Year. In 2005-06, Peterson led his c lub to an 18-10 record and shared the LSC Coach of the Year award. It was the second time he won the award. Peterson also earned the award after leading the Javelinas 19-11 mark and a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2003-04. On December 12, 2004, Peterson won his 100th career game when the Hoggies defeated Southeastern Oklahoma, 62-52. The 2004-05 squad was one of the most balanced for Peterson. The Javelinas posted a 17-11 mark as four players averaged in double figures and three different players earning LSC South Player of the Week honors. Robert Hamilton and Richard Gonzalez earned All-LSC honors, while Gonzalez was named Defensive Player of the Year.
