GOETTL’S HEROES HONORING OUR VETERANS - 2023

THE GOETTL STORY The Goettl brothers moved to Phoenix in 1939. They found the heat oppressive and wanted to do something to make Phoenix a more comfortable place to live, so Goettl Air Conditioning was born on February 14, 1939. The Goettl brothers revolutionized cooled air technology and made Arizona a more sought-after state to live in. During WWII, Gust and Adam Goettl turned their talents to manufacturing operations to support the war effort. After the war, Phoenix continued to grow and there became even more need to create safe retreats from the burning sun and to keep houses and offices cool.

The Goettl brothers would drive around Phoenix with air conditioning units attached to trucks, cooling down grateful local residents. This genius piece of marketing sealed the Goettl brothers’ fate; they quickly became a popular household name.

We do things the right way, not the easy way.®

K9 works with animal shelters and rescue organization as well as breeders to find dogs that are the best fit for their program. The best way to support the organization, though there are many different ways we can support in the future, is through a dog sponsor.

8

How do you think your military experience has influenced your career in the civilian world? Learning to adapt. What advice would you give to other veterans transitioning into the corporate world? Be patient and accept change.

VETERAN PROFILE

ANTHONY BALSAMO Branch of Service: United States Army Years of Service: 5 years Rank at Discharge: Corporal Goettl Branch and Title: Lake Forest: Lead Installer Years of Employment at Goettl: 4 years

Military/Professional Experience: How did your military service shape your values and work ethic? The Army instilled values the civilian world cannot offer: loyal, honesty, committment, and respect. I feel like being in charge of human life has showed me there’s harder things in life and to not stress the little things.

How do you think your military experience has influenced your career in the civilian world? I went through a lot of crazy times in the Army. When my civilian life gets hard, I look back at those times to remind myself how easy I have it now.

How do you apply the skills you acquired in the military to your current role? Leadership is what I took most from the military. To me, an install is just another fire fight. Being able to see who needs to go where and prioritize tasks that are most important makes me a very efficient installer.

What advice would you give to other veterans transitioning into the corporate world? It’s going to be rough. It’s nothing like what they told us getting out. Hang in there. Civilian life is weird, but I promise just like in the military, you will survive and you just need to keep moving forward.

DANIEL HAROLD BURKE Branch of Service: United States Navy Years of Service: Active Duty: Sept. 1960 to Aug. 1964 Active Reserve: Sept. 1964 to Aug. 1966 Rank at Discharge: IC-2 Interior Communications Electrician, Petty Officer Second Class Goettl Branch and Title: Phoenix: Brand Ambassador & Senior Advisor Years of Employment at Goettl: 34 years

Military/Professional Experience: How did your military service shape your values and work ethic? Prior to joining the Navy, I never saw myself as a leader type. My first day at boot camp, I was selected to be a Squad Leader. If something needed fixing out in the ocean, you and/or your shipmates fixed it. To this day, I continue to be comfortable confronting and solving technical & organizational challenges by being direct and honest with teammates and always being willing to lend a hand. How do you apply the skills you acquired in the military to your current role? I was able to succeed in civilian work because of my attention to safety and health hazards, get-the-job done attitude, accountability for my work, lending a hand, and team building skills.

10

What advice would you give to other veterans transitioning into the corporate world? If the veteran liked the work he or she did in their service, I suggest they look for nonmilitary opportunities where the skills and training gained during their service would add value to nonmilitary organizations. Be enthusiastic in describing their skills and values to potential employers. Work ethic, discipline and accountability, personal grooming, health and safety orientation, and team play are always in demand in any organization.
