Human Rights Series Poster Design

Context Understanding that in this generation, the work of designers is to advocate for injustice and to call-out problems in our society. I created a poster design series that align with the messaging of several non-profit organizations in an effort to acknowledge social injustices.

Research Part of starting the research is addressing the topic and ensuring you understand multiple points of view. Approach it from multiple perspectives to establish what affects or is affected by the project. For this project I looked into topics with similarities to the project. An expert from a book and an exploration of a Non-Profit Organization.

Redesigning the American Dream Bob McKinnon

The article talks about the abilities of a designer in a way that really brings to light the power we wield. It talks about the hubris and humility we show whenever we choose a new design to work on. The author makes a statement about how things can grow past what imagine they would be and how sometimes they make the wrong impact or one we could not foresee. The American Dream Score was mentioned as the example of a design that reached a massive audience, the quiz was seen by designers as a proof of theory. It was great, they had gotten what they hoped. But to some it was a heart-breaking thing, to see their scores. It reminds the reader that as a designer our work can change live and not always how we hoped.

The UWD organization is dedicated to helping the undocumented achieve success in life. They work with thousands of volunteers to help promote policies, get people documented, share people’s stories, all why being promoting non-violence.

Concept Development After the research comes the ideation process, using information previously drawn source. In this project addressing the aesthetic of the non-profit as well as including facts and statistics was the next step. The sketching phase consisted of dozens of renditions of which only 3 ideas were chosen.

Comp Creation The first series of works are the basis of the final product using a smaller ratio project which allows the development of the concept and foreseeing errors. The Final work in this case was a derivitive of wha the original composition was. However, it wastly differed from the sketches.
