When I was young, I wanted to �ind more about this unknown world, and I took my camera and traveled to a number of places to record a lot of things. I saw the most fascinating blue sky, surging sea, and looked up the holy snow mountain. I can never forget the simple smile under the plateau sunshine, and the songs sung beside the night camp�ire. I have a strong curiosity, and I want to know the truth about everything. Therefore, I have a strong feeling in recording my experience and taking photos for what I have seen. I would like to understand the world with my sincere heart. I think I ought to do something for those people who cannot see many parts of this world. This is why I choose to study photographic journalism in university.
Photographic journalism is the courses with focus on the latest technical work�lows and advanced manipulation of digital images, and so I will learn creative skills to improve my skills.Moreover, I choose go to Britain to study this course have some reasons, because I know that the British media is very good, at the same time, the creativity of the students is amazing. Therefore, I am eager to study abroad primarily for three reasons: �irst of all, the foreign teaching methods which are based on practice is suitable for me, especially for the major I choose; secondly, studying abroad can make me more competitive when I am looking for a job in my country. Last but not least, foreign education can broaden my horizon. These reasons are why I came to the UK to study photojournalism.
I have lots of experience about these majors I choose and I started taking photos when I was thirteen. I have been to many places, and have been impressed by the local customs, and took many photos expressing Chinese culture. From �ifteen to eighteen， I went to Tibet area alone many times in order to capture the beautiful scenery. Moreover, I spent a lot of time in researching and collecting photographic equipment, and learned image post-processing techniques My friends and I have set up an electronic magazine team, and I, as an editor, offer a lot of my own photographic works, as well as a picture for readers to do post-processing. Due to this work experience, I have learned a lot, including many photographic processes. Also, my photography have contributed a lot to charities, and helped some charity organizations to do promotion and fund-raising.
Photography is my fate I discovered by accident, and my parents are also very support me to do my favorite cause. When I found the image to see from the view�inder is so wonderful, and then my world changed. From consciousness simply I just want to record the scene, until now I got my own sense to take pictures, photography has changed me a lot. When I am not adult, for taking amazing images, I alone have been to known as the most dangerous road of the world, Sichuan-Tibet line. In that time, the impulse and courage was given by photography. Because in that region, people's life is very original, extreme hard conditions, and it’s often have riots. I can not afraid of anything that time. Photography for me is equal to the value of my life; I also can see the value of life from photography. Since then, I found that photography and the travel cannot be separated, the relationship between them is very close.And this is beginning to pay attention a lot of environmental issues, just from my personal experience, I have been traveled in many place to take landscape images. The natural power, and the belief from all those monks in those areas, these things vibrated in me, makes me love in there so much.The sky blue as like the color from the painters' color case, those mountains been covered up by snow all the time, water in the lake, you can look through down to the bottom. That just likes someone made it on purpose. But the natural processes are getting damage from human beings. We are cutting trees, and building hydro dam, we are using the clean water and out the shit back to the river.Because of these, we are losing our land, �ish is dying, and beautiful view is missing.
Then begin to found out more related news about photography, including the appreciation of equipment, how to use the Photoshop to do post-processing, and photography-related work and so on.Also see a lot of books about photography, and I found a one book have a big effect on me, this book is written by Susan Sontag, “on photography”. In the book, Sontag expresses her views on the history and present-day role of photography in capitalist societies as of the 1970s. Sontag discusses many examples of modern photography. And as she argues, perhaps originally with regard to photography,the medium fostered an attitude of anti-intervention. Sontag says that the individual who seeks to record cannot intervene, and that the person who intervenes cannot then faithfully record, for the two aims contradict each other.In this context, she discusses in some depth, the relationship of photography to politics.（Wikipedia 2010）
then I found myself inclined to photography with photojournalism, which may be related to my adventurous personality, and to known a lot of photographer related with war, I have great admiration for them, their professionalism and the courage face to suffering. We all know that the community is very �lippancy, So now also the shuttle in the thick of the photographer, they live in the Middle East, and the countries which in the riots, and some photographers concerned with Vulnerable groups and many social problems, the spirit of journalists is very valuable.That is why initially I did not choose pure photography, choosing instead to photojournalism, we all know the world all the time all sorts of things happening, a lot of things we have no way to control it, but we can record it, so let more people know it and understand it.As the tutor talked about this time, photography is telling story. I just want to be an remarkable witnesses, and treat it very seriously. The photographer David Viggers in UK, he said “In this case, if you cannot do the functions of a journalist, you will be nothing” When you record the death of thousands of people, you cannot feel happy to hand over a report. The photos disturbing because you take a picture of the location and disturbing events, as a news photographer, you do not have the right to decide which scenario it should be noted, and what the scene people should not see - the human scale, it should be by the people themselves to decide.
During this time, I came to a strange country to start my study of photojournalism; just started a lot of things are very dif�icult, such as cultural differences and communication problems with language. And differences in the way of education, a lot of things to think about thinking I need to convert, including pictures of the shooting. I am not familiar with the students of the shooting style, but should be very different, so I need to learn their thinking and sense, for getting my picture with the creative.
Fortunately, during this adjustment period, the teacher is not talking about something dif�icult, I have got a lot of knowledge before, So at �irst I thought that the pressure is not great, but because of language problems, the teachers often talk about the things I cannot very detailed and very clear to understand, sometimes led to I do not know the homework. There are more serious problem is that, this for me a very strange place, because of no friends, and not familiar with the place, which leads to the inconvenience I would like to go out to take pictures.
But I know, photography is the business needs a passion to support. Therefore, during this time I need to adjust my mentality, and to strengthen language learning, after-school time I need to spend on the research for photography style and everything about photography. Weak of my photography is using light, I would like to learn in the future here, I need more communication with teachers and classmates, also need my own efforts.Adversity is to allow people to grow, although I stay away from home, away from family and friends, and sometimes I will miss home. But it made me empty out a lot of time, and having peace of mind to think about photography, because nothing can disturb me. Anyway, I need more dynamic, and the increase of exchange with students in the class, I will to be learning from them.I �ind myself more and more sensitive to color, I use a heavy tone images, whether the images is color or not, so people will feel remarkable to see the impact. Other problem is on the post-processing, perhaps a long time I pay more attention to the shooting of technical skills, for the study does not in-depth to research post-processing, and this is the point then I need to be strengthened.But more importantly, I need it as soon as possible familiar with each other in our class, so that our team will complete the job better, I need more communicate with them and exchange our ideas and knowledge in photography, and understand the photography styles of everyone.
My personal characteristics are not only independence, but also determination. I have lots of courage to overcome the dif�iculties. I hope that I can get a series of remarkable high skills in photography by studying at University, as well as getting more understanding of photography in order to get a better understanding of the world.Furthermore, when I graduate, I hope I can manage to make a choice among the tremendous wide range of employment, such as editorial photographer, picture editor, and freelance contrast photographer. I know that I will always insist on photographic career, I will not give up. Hope that the future as I hope I can become a quali�ied witness, on behalf of my pictures what I want to say, and my perspective, my thoughts, my world, my stories and the truth.
