Glutaraldehyde provides a quick rate of kill with improved performance in the presence of organic matter, while the quat works to increase the penetration of glutaraldehyde in the cell. There is a limited number of glutaraldehyde/quat combination products available in the U.S. for this market. GLUTEX GQ1 Sanitizer contains the highest percentage of glutaraldehyde of the glut/quat combination products. The effective combination of these two actives offers improved broad-range performance against products that list quats as the primary active. Quats by themselves suffer from limited efficacy against many viruses, certain Gram-negative bacteria and spores, as well as have a high affinity for negatively charged materials, making them readily deactivated by organic matter.

Key Features, Advantages, and Benefits of GLUTEX GQ1 Sanitizer include: Effectively sanitizes against key pathogens such as Avian Influenza (H5N1 and H6N2) Aspergillus fumigatus Salmonella cholerasuis Pseudomonas aeruginosa SARS Associated Coronavirus Klebsiella pneumoniae Staphylococcus aureus Infectious bursal disease (IBD) Helps reduce contamination on a wide variety of surfaces found in animal production facilities, such as: Stainless steel Aluminum Painted concrete Plastic Glazed tile Internal laboratory testing resulted in low corrosion to metals when applied at end use levels on carbon steel, galvanized steel and Galvaneal steel There is NO formaldehyde in or formaldehyde release from GLUTEX GQ1 Glutaraldehyde is readily biodegradable according to OECD 301A test method Efficacy data is continually being generated for GLUTEX GQ1, including disinfection efficacy. Some of the microorganisms being tested include, but are not limited to, Clostridium perfringens, Escherichia coli, Salmonella enteritidis, Mycoplasma gallisepticum, Pasteurella multocida, Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae, Campylobacter jejuni, Haemophilus paragallinarum and Avian laryngotracheitis. NOTICE: No claims to efficacy are intended or are to be implied by the listing of the above pathogens. Information is being provided solely for reference to intended testing. Please check with your customer representative for updated information.

Frequently Asked Questions: What is the difference between glutaraldehyde and formaldehyde? The Dow Chemical Company has been the leading manufacturer of glutaraldehyde for more than 40 years. Glutaraldehyde is fast-acting and useful against a variety of microorganisms, including a broad spectrum of harmful bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Glutaraldehyde is not classified as a carcinogen; formaldehyde is a Group 1 carcinogenic to humans according to IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer).

How does glutaraldehyde compare to other actives? The chart below compares glutaraldehyde to several other commonly used actives for control of microbes:

Can GLUTEX™ GQ1 be used with existing fogging or foaming equipment? Yes. GLUTEX GQ1 can be applied by spraying, foaming and fogging. For proper use of thermal foggers and misting equipment, and for safe handling guidelines when fogging, please follow the product label, SDS and refer to the application section of dowglutex.com. Is GLUTEX GQ1 Corrosive? The corrosivity of GLUTEX GQ1 is similar to water, when diluted to end use levels, making it preferred to oxidizing agents like peroxymonosulfate and straight quat formulations, which can be highly corrosive. Additionally, in direct comparison with oxidizing agents, GLUTEX GQ1 offers a broader efficacy spectrum, including improved efficacy against spores and enveloped viruses. How does GLUTEX GQ1 Sanitizer work in truck washes? GLUTEX GQ1 can be applied by spraying or foaming onto tires and wheels on trucks, inside and outside of trailers, cages, polymer floor mats, and undercarraige. As with any sanitizer or disinfectant, remove gross soils, apply a soap, such as General Purpose 1300 Cleaner from Dow Biocides, rinse and dry to achieve best results. Apply GLUTEX GQ1 with a foaming wand or low pressure sprayer (<300 psi) at a rate of ½ to 1 oz per gallon water and allow to sit for a minimum of 5 minutes. Is GLUTEX GQ1 Sanitizer compatible with an alkaline soap cleaning program? Yes. GLUTEX GQ1 can be used as a flow-on biocidal step after cleaning and washing with any conventional neutral pH or non-acidic (alkaline or chlorinated, foaming or non-foaming) soap and cleaner product mix. Dow Biocides offers a complete line of alkaline and acidic cleaners. For best performance, allow drying after cleaning and before applying GLUTEX GQ1.
