Hello again with our second issue!

Nothing is more fun than learning new things with new people all the time, right?

In the previous issue we had great fun preparing the magazine with the eTwinning club and learned a lot!

This is our second issue and we are getting better and better day by day.

In this December and January issue our topics are Celebrations, Traditions and Music.

We tried to prepare the content thinking local and at the same time considering the eTwinning projects agreed topics with other partners from Istanbul , Ordu, Adana, Slovenia, Coratia etc.

For those of you who will take a look at these magazines, I hope you enjoy them and learn as much as possible from what we did.

So ,now its time to sneak into it and get smarter ;)

LOCAL NEWS

To celebrate the coming of the new year, our school band TRITONUS and the music teacher Eren MUTLU gave an amazing concert for the whole school. They performed many great popular songs and students had great time before the holiday.

This was an excellent ending and a perfect start for 2020 !

LOCAL NEWS

This month , there was a really exciting activity in our school. A Trivial Pursuit Contest!

After an elimination among four voluntary groups, two team remained and they fought against each other. Of course, this fight was not with armour but with intelligence and general knowledge. You can see the winner team on the left in the picture below. Answering the questions while watching them was really fun and we learned a lot !

PARTNERS What are the partners doing meantime?

While we were preparing our second magazine and at the same time continuing our school life , our partners were also busy with their own life and project activities.

In the first and second picture you can see our Slovakian friends.

They celebrated a traditional occation in January and they performed folk songs and wore different traditional clothes.

In the third and the fourth pictures are the new year preparations and decorations from our partner's schools. Each school especially our European partners prepared amazing decorations and created new year trees and cards wishing all the best from the new year. We also designed a New Year Wishes Board and wrote what we want from 2020 :)

PARTNERS Here in the first picture you see our friends from Crotia , the school Os Cazma and they are listening to their teachers very carefully. They are in an informative meeting about safer internet. Since we are carring out our project here all online it is really important that we all use the internet safely. We also did many activities about Safe Internet Day and you will see them in our next Bimonthly magazine. Keep following us ;) In the last two photos , they are our Turkish partners from Eskipazar Imam Hatip, Ordu. Since one of our topic is Music, they visited a consertavory and listened to both Turkish and foreign masterpieces performed by university students. The fourth photo is their bimonthly magazines. We are really looking forward to seeing it :)

Bocu k Nigh t

Bocuk means the night of the bocuk in Turkish language.

On the night of January 6, north western Turkish people do a festival almost like the Halloween. They just use the pumpkin in a different way. Rather than carving them, they are making a tasty dessert to serve the people coming at their houses. Here is the story; Due to the similarity of Božić (bojic) in the languages of Thrace, Bocuk night is believed to be inspired from the Christian festival celebrated on the night of January 6, the day of baptism. However, there is a Serbian historian named Tihomir Đorđević who claims it is an ancient Turkish festival in his book named Nas Narodni Zivot.

The story told behind the festival is way better to talk about rather than its origins.

According to the old people of the area, Bocuk is a woman, who was 80 years old. She dives into the black magic to get younger. She is believed to have carried an egg in her armpit for 21 days. When the egg hatches and the hen grows, she cooks it in 6 fireplaces and eats it. That makes her 18 again and rather than taking a good date with a handsome boy, we find her visiting all the stalls and milking the cows naked! People believe that those cows will never be able to produce milk again. To avoid it, people of Thrace made a pumpkin pie and put it on top of their houses so the Bocuk woman could eat for it is the favorite food of her.

Besides, people gathered in the houses and talked about her and the people who claimed to had seen her before till the morning light. It is believed to be unlucky to wander around on that night. Like trick or treat, people used to use starch to paint their faces white like ghosts and scared the people waiting at their windows for the Bocuk Woman! People are preparing pumpkin dessert to serve to people coming at their windows. In the past, they would make lanterns of pumpkins and walk in the dark streets of their villages to scare the Bocuk Woman.

A GENIUS

(27 January 1756–5 December 1791) Mozart was one of the most influential, popular and prolific composers of the

classical period. He composed over 600 works, including some of the most famous and loved pieces of symphonic, chamber, operatic, and choral music.

Mozart was born in Salzburg to a musical family. From an early age, the young Mozart showed all the signs of a prodigious musical talent. By the age of five, he could read and write music, and he would entertain people with his talents on the keyboard. By the age of six, he was writing his first compositions. Mozart was generally considered to be a rare musical genius, although he was also diligent in studying other great composers such as Haydn and Bach.

During his childhood, he would frequently tour various palaces around Europe playing for distinguished guests. Aged 17, he accepted a post as a court musician in Salzburg; although this did not suit him very well, the next few years were a time of prolific composition. In 1781, he moved permanently to Vienna where he stayed for the remainder of his life. In Vienna, he became well known and was often in demand as a composer and performer.

However, despite his relative fame, he struggled to manage his finances and moved between periods of poverty and prosperity. This difficulty was enhanced when, in 1786, Austria was involved in a war which led to lower demand for musicians. In 1782, he married against the wishes ofİ Chis| NOMAD family; he had six children but only two survived infancy.

The work of Mozart is epic in scope and proportion. There were few branches of music Mozart did not touch. He composed operas, symphonies, concertos, and solo pieces for the piano. His work spanned from joyful lighthearted pieces to powerful, challenging compositions which touched the emotions. At the beginning of his career, Mozart had a powerful ability to learn and remember from the music he heard from others. He was able to incorporate the style and music of people such as Haydn and J.S. Bach. As he matured, he developed his very own style and interpretations. In turn, the music of Mozart

SERTAP ERENER

(Born 4 December 1964) is a Turkish singer, songwriter and composer. With her coloratura soprano voice, she started working as a backing vocalist for Sezen Aksu, and with Aksu's help she released her first studio album in the 1990s.

Because of her education in classical music, she initially had difficulties in performing pop music.

Although she did experimental works from time to time, she eventually preferred to focus on making pop music instead of making avant-garde works, in order to make her music heard by a larger audience. In some of her works, she combined Western music and Eastern music, and benefited from operas as well as classical Turkish music together with ethnic elements. She won first place with 167 points with the song ‘EveryWayThat I Can’ in Eurovision Song Contest and many of her works were also sold in Turkey as well as European countries.

Tarkan ,who is the most well-known Turkish pop singer in the world, is mostly know for his song ‘Kiss Kiss’. Even today, you can come across the song ‘Kiss Kiss’ which is played all over the world Tarkan is undisputedly one of the Turkey’ s greatest representatives, with far reaching success throughout Europe, Russia, Turkic Republics, Middle East, South America and Australia.He is a World Music Award winning artist who has sold over 15 million records and charted top 40 singles for every hit released from 1992 to the present day.

Tarkan’s lasting impression is undeniable – as both he and his music have been woven into the rich and intricate fabric of Turkish culture. His music has always flowed to the beat of pop culture with his heart drumming to its ever-changing pulse.

İdil Biret, Turkish pianist ,was 15 years old when she finished the Paris National Conservatory in first place. Since the age of 16 she has appeared on numerous world stages.

She played with famous directors at concerts covering 5 continents; participated in many festivals. Her albums won many critics’ admiration and led the artist to be described as "one of the leading piano masters of our time".

Idil Biret’s life, bearing the title of the world’s largest repertoire pianist, was compiled by a French author. In 2007, it was translated into Turkish with the name of ‘A Turkish Pianist on World Stages: Idil Biret’.

Singer, composer, movie actor, TV producer, TV celebrity. Born in Istanbul on January 2nd, 1943.

Married to Lale, and father of two sons: Dogukan and Batikan.After high school education in Galatasaray Lisesi, Turkey, he graduated from "L'Académie Royale des Beaux Arts de Liège" in Belgium in 1969.He wrote, composed and performed more than 200 songs. A large number of these songs were translated into Greek, Bulgarian, Romanian, Arabic, Persian, Kurdish and re-recorded by local artists. 12 of his albums were crowned gold and 1 platinum.He died unexpectedly on 31st January 1999, from a heart attack. His funeral service was held on the 3rd of February 1999 at the Ataturk State Theater in Istanbul and huge masses of people gathered along his last trip to the mosque of Levent, after which Baris Manco was Laid to rest.
