4-H projects advancing to Iowa State Fair

Ben Weis Grand Champion Market Beef & Champion Senior Showman

Kylie Juenger Res. Grand Champion Market Beef

Weis shows Grand Champion Market Beef Ben Weis, McIntire, exhibited the Grand Champion Market Beef at the 2012 Mitchell County Beef show. Kylie Juenger, Stacyville, exhibited the Reserve Champion Market Animal. The Grand Champion was a 1,220 pound market heifer. The Reserve Champion Market beef animal was a 1,300 pound market steer. The Champion and Reserve Champion Market Beef trophies were provided by Farmers Feed and Grain. The Champion Market Heifer was exhibited by Ben Weis. This trophy was provided by Tim and Joe Johnson. The Reserve Champion Market Heifer was exhibited by Amber Brigham, St. Ansgar. Troy Kane, Oelwein, IA was the official judge of the Market Beef Show. A total of thirty-six steers, three dairy beef, and four market heifers were entered in the

competition this year. Third place Overall Market Animal was shown by Jared Popp, Osage. Fourth place Overall Market Animal was shown by Joe Cockrum, Osage. Fifth place Overall Market Animal was shown by Kylie Juenger. Showmanship winners in the market Beef Show were: Senior Champion - Ben Weis Reserve Senior Champion- Leo Kruse, Rudd Intermediate Champion- Jacob Metli, Mason City Reserve Intermediate ChampionRalee Kruse, Rudd Junior Champion - Sam Juenger, Stacyville Reserve Junior Champion- Parker Brigham, Saint Ansgar

The Champion Showmanship awards were provided by Clarence Kruse-Main Realty; Rob and Marlene Weis; Wubben Ag Consulting. Reserve Showmanship awards were provided by Kruse Angus Farm. Other trophy and award sponsors include Berg Stock and Grain Farm. Four pens of market beef animals were exhibited this year and there were no stocker beef pens. Pens of Three are not broken to lead and are judged in the pen. The Champion Pen of Three was shown by Adam Koch, Osage. The Reserve Champion pen of three was shown by Justin Slaichert, St. Ansgar. The Reserve Champion trophy was sponsored by Iowa Cattle Marketing. Other purple ribbon winners in the Market Beef classes were: Ben Weis,

McIntire; Amber Brigham and Sarah Phelps, St. Ansgar; Kylie Juenger, Stacyville; Joe Cockrum, Christian Fox, Matthew Mack, Katie Klaes, Jared Popp, and Trevor Wagner all of Osage; and Clint Eastman, Chad Eastman, and Jake Fox of Riceville. Blue ribbon winners in the various classes in addition to the purple ribbon winners were: Christian Fox, Adam Koch, Darin Koch, Ben Schwarting, Mitch Huftalin, Kyra Johanns, Marshall Mack, Erin Miller, Kara Miller, and Laura Miller, Osage; Stevan Merten, Stacyville; Chris Eastman, Erica Eastman, and Seth Fox, Riceville; Matthew Arthur, Nora Springs; Savanah Rogers, Orchard; Casey Zuehl, Trevor Taets, Justin Slaichert, and Hanna Zuehl, St. Ansgar.

Through 4-H and FFA our young people get an early start on projects designed to teach them and provide the experience and guidance our youth need. We plant the seeds of tomorrow in our youth.
