IHSMA Outstanding Performance Award There were five contest centers at Fort Dodge: one string, two vocal, and two band in which the judge of each center had the prerogative of selecting one outstanding event of the day — either an outstanding solo or ensemble. Mason City High School’s Concert Chamber Choir member, Michael Betz, was recognized in two of the five centers for his marimba solo, receiving the Iowa High School Music Association “Outstanding Performance Award.” Only 0.9 of 1 percent of all festival entries in the state receive this award.
