Duitscher, 60 years THORNTON — Arnold (Dutch) and Madelyn (Torch) Duitscher will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on Thursday, May 21, 2009. Arnold Duitscher and Madelyn McCauley were married in Albert Lea, Minn. They have lived on their farm for the past 56 years and are the parents of five children: Trudy Hillburg, Algona; Judy (Tom) Linahon, Clear Lake; Bobbi (Jim) Robbins, Des Moines; Lolly, Mason City, and Bill of Clear Lake. ROCKFORD — Donald Buseman and Jean (Pitkin) Buseman of Rockford were married May 31, 1969, at St. Charles United Methodist Church in rural Charles City. The couple will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2009, at Rockford Community Center in Rockford, hosted by their children and grandchildren. The couple’s children and their spouses are Jon and Jeanelle Buseman of York, Neb., Sandra and Mark Hanson of Rochester, Minn., Sara and John Udelhofen of Mason City. STEPHANIE AREY, of Platteville, Colo., is the daughter of Joyce Ferstl and Chad Harms of Britt. She is a 2003 graduate of West Hancock High School and a 2007 graduate of Wartburg College with a degree in elementary education. Stephanie is presently pursuing a master’s degree from Grand Canyon University and is teaching kindergarten at Platteville Elementary in Platteville, Colo. TRAVIS ANGELL, of Platteville, Colo., is the son of Deb Angell and Kent Angell of Osage. He is a 2003 graduate of Osage Community High School, and a 2007 graduate of Wartburg College with a degree in elementary education. He is presently pursuing a master’s degree from Grand Canyon University. Travis teaches special education at Platteville Elementary in Platteville. The couple will be married at 2 p.m. June 6, 2009, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City.

St. Olaf College Honors Day NORTHFIELD, Minn. — Three North Iowa students were among more than 1,100 St. Olaf College students who were recognized for academic achievement at the college’s annual Honors Day convocation, May 1. Mark Lee and Daniel Lee, both of Mason City, Iowa, and Cody Venzke, of Manly, Iowa, were honored at the event. Honors Day recognizes all full-time seniors and special students who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher, and all full-time juniors, sophomores and first-year students who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.60 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
