9th Annual 2.5 Mile Cross Country Meet

Sunken Meadow State Park

Course: Run the 2.5 Mile High School Cross Country Course. Start at the open field adjacent to the Main Bathhouse, run up Freshmen Hill, Cardiac Hill, the back loop, through the picnic area and around the moat finishing at the High School Cross Country Course Finish Line.

Registration: Starts at 6 PM and ends at 6:45 PM in the Far East field adjacent to the High School Cross Country Finish Line. You MUST be a member of the Northport Running Club, GLIRC or Selden Hills. No exceptions.

Entry Fee: $5.00 per person, day of race registration only. You can only register the day of the race. You must wear your running club uniform! For more info, contact John DeSpagna at jdespagna@aol.com or info@glirc.org. Volunteers are needed.

Waiver: I know that running in club races, workouts and events are potentially hazardous activities. I should not participate in club activities unless I am medically able and properly trained. I agree to abide by any decision of the Board of Directors or any member of the BOD relative to my ability to safely complete the runs/workouts. I assume all risks associated with running in club events including, but not limited to, falls, contacts with other participants, the effects of weather including high heat and or humidity, dehydration, the condition on the course, all such risks being known and appreciated by me. Having read this waiver and knowing these facts, and in consideration of your acceptance for participation I, for myself, and anyone entitled to act on my behalf, waive, and release the Northport Running Club, GLIRC, their officers, the Road Runners Club of America, and USATF, their officers, and employees/representatives, from all claims or liabilities of any kind arising out of my participation in the club activities. Submission of this form and my signature signifies acceptance of the conditions as listed above. I will allow any photos to be used for promotional and publicity purposes. I will comply with all New York State COVD related safety requirements.

On a crisp but sunny spring morning over 200 runners lined up for the Gary Mintz Memorial Scholarship Run at Brentwood High school. The event was created in honor of one of the high school’s former principals, Gary Mintz. He was a principal at Brentwood High School from 1989 to 1995. After he passed away, his idea of creating a 5k race in the community to raise scholarship funds for the seniors of BHS was implemented by Mr. O’Brien, another former principal. This year marked the 28th year that the high school hosted the run to help more students pursue their college dreams!
