It takes less time to simply pound a part into a hole, as opposed to turning a part. The recommended process of installation for thread forming fittings is to spin in. Drive type fittings simply need to be driven in using a drive tool and hammer. Install drive type fittings with dri ve tools found on page 37.

PRE-TES TING Before a new installation, test drill hole in sample material. Fitting is to fit firmly without causing damage or conversely, being too loose. Desired hole sizes will vary with material. Please take into consideration production tolerances.

Drive type grease fittings are installed using a drive tool and a hammer.

A fitting installed in an oversized hole will not create a tight seal.

SAE and Huyett recommend testing prior to the introduction of these fittings into any application. Drive type fittings are not recommended for high-pressure applications.
