Lot 140 140 A 1991 Ford Sierra Sapphire Cosworth Rouse Sport 304-R 41/100, registration number H91 AGU, moonstone metallic blue. The Rouse Sport Cosworth was a limited edition version of Ford’s Sierra developed by Andy Rouse and his company, Rouse Sport. Two versions were available, the 302-R, a two wheel drive version, and the 304, the equivalent four wheel drive. Andy had hoped to build one hundred examples, but only sixty seven were subsequently made. Six two wheel drive and sixty one four wheel drive versions. The Rouse Sport Conversion added £4,450+VAT to the price of a standard car, making it the most expensive Sierra Cosworth ever marketed and sold,by Ford by some margin. The model had a unique body kit encompassing totally revised front and rear bumpers, side skirts and a much bigger spoiler, and subtle Rouse Sport badging featuring throughout, wheel arches were modified to enable fitment of wider 225/50 VR 15 inch tyres versus the standard 205/50s and the suspension was enhanced with modified bushing. All of the cars proudly displayed their Rouse status and build number on a plaque seen on the driver’s B pillar. The interior benefited from front Recaro seats with bigger bolsters and an additional set of wings over the standard version. The seats and dashboard display bespoke Rouse sport badging. Cloth trim was standard with leather trim listed as an optional extra at a cost of £280. Most customers opted for leather trim and therefore only a limited number like this car were fitted with cloth trim. This car, number 41, is the only cloth equipped car known to the RSOC. This car was registered on 4th April 1991 for the supplying Ford RS main agent, Bristol Street Motors of Bromley. This exclusive motor car, Ford’s flagship model, was run as a company car by one of Bristol Street Motors company directors. He ran the car until March 1993, at which time it had covered 19,000 miles and had been serviced in Bristol Street Motors workshops on four separate occasions. It was then retailed as a Ford A1 approved used car to a local lady, Mrs Bateman, from Sevenoaks in Kent. Mrs Bateman retained ownership of the car, using it regularly, before ownership passed to her son, who lived at the same address in 2007 and then onto the current owner in 2010. There is a full service history, including the original bill of sale from Bristol Street Motors, the original order letter from Rouse Sport, the original owner’s handbooks and wallet, receipts and documents verifying the 100,000 miles covered from new. During the current 20
ownership, the car has received a great deal of attention, and over the winter of 2010/2011, the following work was carried out: the cylinder head and bottom end of the engine were rebuilt, a new clutch was fitted, an oil pressure switch was fitted, the turbo was rebuilt, a new actuator and windscreen were fitted, the headlining was repaired, the wheels were refurbished with new tyres all round, a new fuel tank was fitted, and numerous other components. A rare sporting Ford, which the vendor informs us is in excellent condition after the refurbishment work, and he feels that it would be a great car to add to any Ford collection.
