On Saturday 7 from 8.00pm at the David Hall in South Petherton see Gaz Brookfield. Following the release of his critically acclaimed fifth studio album, and his sell out UK tour, Gaz will be bringing his unique style of upbeat and catchy Folk songs. From Tuesday 10 to Saturday 14 at 7.30pm at Octagon Theatre YAOS presents ‘9-5: The Musical’. Music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick and based on the 1980 hit film. Set in the late 1970s, this hilarious story of friendship and revenge set in an office, where the working hours are ‘9 to 5’, is outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic. Pushed to the boiling point, three female coworkers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. In a hilarious turn of events, Violet, Judy and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy – giving their boss the boot! While their boss, Hart, remains ‘otherwise engaged’, the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down. On Friday 13 from 7.30pm at the Exchange in Sturminster Newton there is a very special evening with award-winning singer

songwriter Hazel O’Connor, joined by Clare Hirst on sax and Sarah Fisher on keyboards. The superb blend of the three voices and stunning musicianship adds a sweet touch of class to their vibrant performance. Live onstage, hear her unforgettable songs from the iconic film Breaking Glass, which recently celebrated its 35th anniversary. On Friday 13 from 8.00pm at the Ilminster Arts Centre there is a rare treat as two of the World’s top clarinettists will be playing together with Craig’s Milverton trio. Clarinet duels have frequently been fought by the top players throughout the history of jazz, perhaps not so much a fight, but more in a challenge to mimic, to blend together and maybe out-do each other in terms of ideas, technique, phrasing and stamina. This concert puts together the best in the UK and the best in the USA. Tickets: £18.

From Sunday 15 from 7.30pm at Yetminster Jubilee Hall see James Hickman and Dan Cassidy. This is an Artsreach debut for this award winning Transatlantic Folk Duo. This virtuoso duo creates a unique sound that flows from the connection between British and American folk, bursting with all the humour, heartbreak and excitement of these genres. James Hickman’s emotive vocals, driving guitar and lively English wit are complemented by Dan Cassidy’s virtuosic fiddling, bonedry irony and American drawl. Dan Cassidy (brother of the late Eva Cassidy) grew up in Maryland, but is now based in Iceland. James Hickman grew up in Shropshire on a diet of folk and bluegrass, and now tours internationally with Uiscedwr.
